COMMISSION ON DENTAL EDUCATION - Chairman Dean Arturo P. De Leon (Philippines) Topic: Ensuring competency among General Dental Practitioners Preamble: The Dental Education Commission, for the year 2014-2016, looks forward to develop a broad consensus to formulate and synchronize the existing curriculum in various member countries to make highly competent General Dental Practitioners. This will be done by analysing the existing continuing Dental Education Programs through a cross sectional survey across few member nations of APDF. The results of the survey will be deliberated in a workshop. Such deliberation will help APDF to decide the minimum requirements for ensuring competency among General Dental Practitioners. Terms of Reference: a) Development of a broad consensus to formulate and synchronize the existing undergraduate
curriculum. b) Analysing the existing continuing dental education programs c) To organise a dedicated workshop d) To deliberate on minimum requirement for ensuring the competency
among General Dental Practitioners. 16
COMMISSION ON ORAL DISEASES - Chairman Dr Mahmood Shah (Pakistan) Topic: Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease and Dental Caries - Three of the most prevalent Diseases of the World. Preamble: The Commission on Oral Diseases APDF/APRO (2014-2016) would aspire to create consensus and bring all the APDC countries on one page in terms of creating awareness, preventing, treating and rehabilitating protocols/procedures with regards to Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease and Dental Caries in APDF Countries. Terms of Reference: 1. To ascertain the prevalence and incidence of Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease and Dental
Caries in different APDF countries. 2. To identify Target Groups against these three maladies. 3. To propagate preventative measures against Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease and Dental
Caries through various forums like Workshops, Seminars, School Programs, etc. 4. To recommend production of Relevant Competencies and Curriculums in APDF Countries
proportional to the prevalence and incidence of Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease and Dental Caries.
5. To recommend measures for Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment and Rehabilitation of patients with Oral Cancer, Periodontal Disease and Dental Caries.

COMMISSION ON GENERAL DENTAL PRACTICE - Chairman Dr Sudin Shakya (Nepal) The Commission will focus in these two areas: 1. Cross Infection Control in Dental Office 2. Continuing Education Program to enhance the skill and knowledge of General Dental
Practitioner (GDP) Cross Infection Control in Dental Office Infection can be transmitted directly from the patient to the dentist and auxiliary staff. Cross infection may take place from patient to patient and from the dental office to dental lab technicians and vice versa. So there is a need to work in developing a standard protocol. There is also a need to work in sterile settings. All the sterilization procedures should be addressed for the best patient care and for the protection of the dental team. Hence a set of guidelines would be the goal of the Commission. Terms of Reference: 1. To collate infection control procedures from member countries 2. To collate infection control procedures from some developed countries 3. To draw a blue print on the status of infection control in Asia Pacific countries 4. To develop a set of guidelines on infection control Continuing Education Program to enhance the skill and knowledge of GDP The patients first come to the GDP. The GDP is the first one to treat them in his/her capacity. GDP is also the one to refer to the specialists for any specialised care. The Commission believes that best patient care and referral system will only be possible if the GDP is updated with the current trends in dentistry. The Commission together with the help of ICCDE will work in the Continuing Education Programs in different countries along with the support of the member countries (National Dental Association) to enhance the skill and knowledge of the GDPs.
