FROM THE PRINCIPAL Welcome to 2020! Hello and welcome to the new School year! Welcome back to returning students and staff. A special welcome to this year’s Prep students, new students and new staff. As I’ve been visiting classrooms, it has been wonderful to witness students excited about and actively engaged in their learning. Congratulations to all, on a great start to the year! (Check out student photos in this newsletter!) I look forward to working with students, families, staff and the wider community to ensure a great year of learning for all our Dirranbandi students. Staffing We welcome to our school Miss Amber Stewart in her new role as P-2 teacher, Miss Claire Armstrong Year 5-6 teacher, Mrs Annie Carson as Digital Technology teacher, Mrs Jessie Persse as History/Geography teacher, and teacher aides Miss Jess Hourigan and Mrs Astrid Kennedy. Multi-Purpose Court Upgrade Over the holidays, we have been fortunate to have the upgrade of our multi-purpose court completed. The court was looking very tired so it is wonderful to have a refreshed surface for our students to play on. In the hot weather the multi-purpose court is a popular place for students to engage in active play in the shade. Personal Learning Profile Meetings (PLP) Next Wednesday 5 February parents and students have been invited to participate in PLP meetings. These meetings provide an opportunity for students, parents and teachers to collaboratively set learning goals for the term ahead. Please contact the office if you would like to make an appointment. At PLP meetings, parents of students with attendance above 90% will have the opportunity to sign an agreement to participate in the Academic Success Guarantee (ASG) initiative. ASG is a signed collaborative agreement between students, parents and the school that provides an additional layer of support to ensure that students who attend above 90% or more of the School year will meet or beat their Personal Learning Goals set in PLP meetings. We believe all students can be successful when we work together and are committed. Hot Weather Please ensure that your child is well prepared for the hot weather. Check they have a school hat and water bottle for school each day. A fridge is provided in classrooms for students to safely store their lunch. Important Events in the Coming Weeks… Every Monday at 2.30pm Whole School Parade (Parents and friends welcome) Homework Centre starts next week Monday and Thursday afternoons Sporting Schools starts next Tuesday & Wednesday (Return forms ASAP) Wednesday 5 February PLP Meetings Friday 14 February Balonne Swimming Thursday 5 March School Swimming Carnival **note this is a date change Thank You To… Parents for supporting your children in their return to school.

TEACHER PROFILES Hi!

I’m Miss Stewart.

Most of you already know me as Miss Amber or from around the community.

I am now the Prep – 2 Teacher. I am looking forward to working with the school community in my new role.

Let’s have a great 2020!!

"Hello, my name is Miss Armstrong and I am very excited to be a part of Dirranbandi State School this year, and working as the Year 5/6 teacher. I grew up in St. George and have completed my Bachelor of Primary Education at The University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba. Last year I taught Physical Education at St. Patrick’s School in St. George. I value education and believe that it is important to provide and encourage opportunities for students to be active in their learning. I look forward to the year to come and wish everyone a happy 2020 school year."
