Dirt Bike Kauai, or MotoHawaii or motohawii.com, or Billy’s playground… BONUS DAY Tuesday, June 14, day three. The Businessman trip… Jeff has a gig set up, and offers to let me join… Again we meet at the Guest House. Client one, Steve, is pretty much suited up and ready to go. Client two, Phil, has size thirteen feet, and they are having some trouble finding boots that fit. Phil is out. Preparations will be made for huge feeted folks in the future. MotoHawaii has just brought on another guide, Nick. Another twentysomething MX racer. And Jeff joins us. Three guides two clients. Cool. So we head up the Powerline trail. Apparently, though Steve is a stud, he hasn’t ridden a dirtbike in like thirty years. Local surfer, ski instructor from Mammoth, he is pretty competetant on the little 250. I myself have chosen a 450 today. Good power. Aftermarket exhaust. Big wheelies. Big fun. Not my ATK 406, not my KX 500, but still, pretty big power. Big fun. So we reach the first technical section of the Powerline trail. It’s a bit of a struggle for Steve, so we opt for some more casual trails. We hit the road for Hanalei.

BONUS DAY Tuesday, June 14, day three.

We do some stuff above Hanalei. Private ranchland. I’m not gonna go into more.

Spectacular. Then backward thru some stuff I did the other day. Backward is different, of course, up is down, down is up. Etcetera… New swimming hole/ waterfall that I hadn’t seen. Way off the beaten track. Ya just can’t get here from the main road, without Billy or Jeff (below) or Nick….Locals only.

The vistas and the location and the just where I am is just so… incredible. Normal folks just don’t get to see this. Normal motorcylsists can’t even get here. You have to be semi coordinated. The journey to here is incredible, and the destination is equally….

Spectacular? Did I say that? There are really no words, so I’ll stop now…

I asked these guys to give me technical single track. They delivered. And thankfully, some easy stuff in between. I had never done a dualsport ride, and was not hot to ride a dirtbike on the road. Turned out, the paved parts were a welcome break, and a cool way to tour some of the island.

And riding with Billy… It is not often we have the opportunity to hang with such talent. Billy liked to do wheelies, so whenever the trail was straight, he did something for my amusement. We were in town heading to lunch and found ourselves behind a school bus. Billy did a little show for the kids. There was a crowd pressed against the back windows of the bus… And both Billy and Luther like to get some air, so there were many entertaining little pops into the sky. How you say? Dancin’ with the mountain? Tuesday’s ride was from 9 am till 3 pm, Thursday from 9 till 4. Day three businessman ride from 9 till 4:30. Plenty of riding for a guy like me. I think officially, it’s supposed to be a six hour tour. In those three days I saw more of Kauai than any tourist, and probably a lot of locals. This is probably the coolest dirt bike trek I have ever taken. Jeff and Karin Guest and their boy Billy are da kine. The new guy, Nick, must also be cool. He certainly is personable and can make the motorcycle dance. There seems to be enough varied terrain, from smooth contour roads, to one lane blacktop, to jeep trails, to ducking trees, dodging roots and rocks in the jungle, to cliffside singletrack to observed trials to… These guys can lead anyone to terrain they will enjoy, no matter riding level.

I spend a fair amount of money on pleasure; awesome restaurants, shows, travel, toys, roadracing, trackdays… the money spent with MotoHawaii was well worth it and a good bang for the buck. MotoHawaii is a really good value. I am still smiling. This smile might last a couple weeks… My advice is book a direct flight to Lihue today, and arrange for Jeff or Billy or Nick to pick you up at the airport with the bikes loaded up and ready to go. Just let me know and Ill join you.

These pics only kinda depict how cool this was. I didn’t have a professional photographer to take awesome pictures of me, and I was too busy having fun (and/or struggling) to stop and take pics. Or setting good photographs up. Just too busy having FUN!!!

This place rocks.
