IT Enterprise Strategy & Roadmap Functional Areas
• Network Services
– The services that provide the telecommunications, including inter-installation networks, installation
campus area networks, network management, and information assurance services
– End State Vision: Consolidate operation, infrastructure, and maintenance of network services to the
greatest extent practical
• Computing Services
– The services that provide the ability to process, store and access information, including data centers
and the server, storage and other hardware inside of them
– End State Vision: Consolidate and centrally manage server platforms, eliminating program,
organization, and installation-level data centers to the greatest extent practical
• End-User Services
– The common shared applications, services, and processes
– End State Vision: Centrally manage and consolidate IT acquisition and configurations using DoD-wide
standards to enhance information sharing capabilities
• Application and Data Services
– The specific subset of computing services which enable end-users to access information applications
and services locally and via the network
– End State Vision: Maximize the use of common, shared applications, services, and processes to
reduce duplicative investments, enhance data sharing across the Department, and enable more agile
response to mission needs
• IT Business Processes
– The business processes used to procure the hardware, software and services needed to operate and
maintain DoD IT
– End State Vision: Establishment of standardized and automated common business processes using
shared applications
