OverviewEnterprises rely on SAP software solutions to analyze, integrate, and automate mission-critical processes. As such, most organizations require that SAP workloads such as SAP CRM, SAP ERP, and SAP S/4HANA be protected by a disaster recovery plan with aggressive recovery objectives – so that these workloads sustain minimum downtime and data loss.

While there is consensus among organizations that rapid and comprehensive recovery of SAP workloads is essential, they differ regarding how to best achieve this. Traditional on-premise to on-premise disaster recovery approaches for protecting SAP workloads require duplication of infrastructure, operating systems, SAP software, and SAP database logs, as well as other third-party applications, rendering it a highly expensive IT project. In addition to incurring high costs, this approach has another disadvantage: it can replicate only database log files (sufficient for recovering the SAP environment), but not system and application files/configuration (critical to recovering the entire machine and application state).

CloudEndure provides organizations with a more modern approach to protecting SAP workloads: cloud-based disaster recovery. CloudEndure Disaster Recovery not only leverages the cloud to significantly reduce disaster recovery infrastructure costs, it also enables rapid recovery of the SAP environment and the entire machine(s) state by replicating database, application, and system files – meaning that operations continue smoothly with fully functioning workloads. In cases where uninterrupted business continuity is critical, this difference means that businesses can affordably achieve recovery times of minutes, rather than hours or days.

CloudEndure's Disaster Recovery Solution for SAP ApplicationsCloudEndure reduces disaster recovery costs by maintaining continuous, real-time replication into a low-cost “staging area” located in a target infrastructure of choice. This eliminates the need for additional costly appliances or separate operational databases, and reduces compute, storage, and software licensing footprint to a minimum. In the event of a disaster, CloudEndure triggers an automated large-scale orchestration and system conversion process to launch completely functional SAP workloads in the target environment.

CloudEndure Disaster Recovery ensures sub-second Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs)

of minutes for all SAP workloads. CloudEndure solutions are future-proof, giving organizations the flexibility to deploy CloudEndure with existing disaster recovery infrastructure or with any future infrastructure changes both on premises or in the cloud – meaning that SAP applications can have uninterrupted protection regardless of long-term business decisions.

Disaster Recovery for SAP Applications® ®DATA SHEET

Infrastructure — When using CloudEndure Disaster Recovery, there is no need to pay for duplicate hardware, compute, or networking for a target site. A block-level, continuously replicating version of all your data is kept up-to-date in your preferred cloud, utilizing low-cost storage and lightweight compute. The more expensive recovery environment, using high-performance storage and actual compute to run the application, is only used when launched during a disaster or drill.

OS & Third-Party Software Licenses — In order for most disaster recovery solutions to provide robust protection and recovery of SAP applications, you need to purchase duplicate operating system (OS) and third-party software licenses to run SAP applications in your standby site.

With CloudEndure Disaster Recovery, you don’t need to purchase duplicate OS or third-party software licenses. Your SAP application and all other server data are kept in real-time sync in a dormant “staging area” that is not running any licensed OS or application. In the event of a disaster or drill, your OS and third-party applications will be launched on-demand in the target cloud, and you only pay for what you use during the disaster period. In other words, you get robust resilience with sub-second RPOs and RTOs of minutes at the cost of a cold standby solution.

Increases ReliabilityGeographic Redundancy — Best practice for disaster recovery stipulates the use of a target site that is located in a different geographic region than the source environment. In fact, short distances between source and target sites can be problematic from a regulatory perspective.

CloudEndure Disaster Recovery enables the use of a target site in a remote geographic location while still providing continuous data protection with near-zero RPO and RTO. Users can implement geographic redundancy between on-premise and cloud sites, across different regions within the same cloud provider, and across different cloud providers.

High Tolerance for Network Instability — CloudEndure Disaster Recovery is designed to keep data in sync, asynchronously, over long distances, regardless of database write rates or network conditions. In contrast, native replication products are designed to be used within a data center with low network latencies and are not designated to protect data across long distances. If you have a write-intensive system, your tolerance for network interruptions is very low.

Protects Any Application, Across Any InfrastructureUniversal Application Support — CloudEndure Disaster Recovery replicates and recovers all SAP applications. In addition, CloudEndure’s data replication engine natively supports other applications, including third-party software, legacy applications, homegrown applications, OSs, and common applications such as SQL servers, Exchange servers, SharePoint, etc.

Block-Level Replication — CloudEndure Disaster Recovery utilizes block-level replication rather than taking snapshots or writing data to disk. This is what enables 100% data integrity for SAP applications as well as their OS and all surrounding applications.

Any Source, Any Target — CloudEndure Disaster Recovery provides equally efficient replication, restore, and recovery for all SAP applications across any source and any target infrastructure. This includes on-premises VMware targets, physical data centers, and public clouds such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud.

Provides Automated Disaster Recovery TestingEasy Implementation — Any strong disaster recovery strategy must include the capability for frequent testing. However, many companies avoid launching frequent drills due to the significant overhead needed to do so and the fear that a failed drill will cause both temporary and permanent damage to the entire organization. CloudEndure Disaster Recovery provides automated disaster recovery testing for all SAP applications, eliminating time-intensive manual processes, such as log shipping, that can take days.

Non-Disruptive — CloudEndure Disaster Recovery enables non-disruptive drills that launch SAP applications and all workloads in your target site without impacting your source environment. All changes that take place in your source environment during the tests are saved and replicated.

Enables Data IntegrityPoint-in-Time Recovery — This functionality enables failover to earlier versions of replicated servers, which is particularly important for ransomware attacks or other IT environment corruptions where the most current version of system data has been compromised.

Enterprise-Grade Security — CloudEndure ensures the highest level of security standards by providing in-transit and at-rest data encryption. Data does not go through CloudEndure at any stage of the disaster recovery process.
