These easy to make projects are fun and you can involve the whole
family. With just a little time and imagination you can create unique
and individual gifts for everyone you care about for just about any
occasion.
Among these recipes you will find gifts that are appropriate as:

blends. These blends can in fact be interchanged and used with many
of the other recipes in the e- book as well. So don't feel limited to just
using them for the recipe with which they appear. If you like the
blend you can certainly use it in other recipes. The only proviso to
keep in mind is any possible Contra-Indications there may be to oils in
a blend for the individual. You will find a section with all the Contra-
Indications so refer to that when deciding on your oils. Also if you want
to adapt any of the recipes for use with children do follow the
guidelines as laid out in the sections on Babies and Children.

Packaging and Presentation
Packaging and presentation are what will really set your gift apart and
make it special. There are many different options open to you to
make your presentation unique and you are only limited by your own
imagination.
You could create a theme based on any one of a number of things:
➢ The season e.g. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter.
➢ A special holiday e.g. Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween,
Christmas.
➢ Your favorite color e.g. everything in yellow, or in pink etc.
➢ Your favorite essential oil e.g. everything scented with
lavender or rose or neroli etc.
➢ A special event e.g. weddings, graduations, births, birthdays,
christenings etc.
Once you have chosen your theme your packaging materials can be
coordinated to fit in with it. Tulle, cellophane bags, cellophane wrap,
gauze bags, ribbons, feathers, flowers fresh, dried or artificial, herb
springs, balloons can all be used to customize your packaging to suit
the occasion and your taste.

scoop or spoon in to the warm water between scoops making
sure to shake off any excess water. Place the truffles on the
baking tray with the cocoa powder.

10. Refrigerate until the truffles firm up a bit. They are served at
room temperature.

Solid Perfume
Ingredients:
10 ml jojoba
1 rounded teaspoon grated beeswax (approx. 5 ml)
25 - 30 drops essential oil synergy
Small pots.
5 ml dark glass bottle
Method:
Create your essential oil synergy in a dark glass bottle and allow it to
combine for a week or 10 days.
When ready to make the solid perfume add your essential oil synergy to
the jojoba oil.
In a double boiler melt the beeswax.
When melted remove from the heat and add the jojoba/essential oil
synergy, mix and stir well.
Pour into the small, sterilized pots.
The mixture will harden quite quickly.
Label.
Use:
Apply to the pulse points as required.
Variation:
Instead of using beeswax and jojoba as your base you could use one
of the solid oils or combine a few of them together. Cocoa Butter,
Coconut, Mango Butter, Shea Butter can be used singularly or
combined with one another. You might have to experiment a little to
get the consistency you want when you combine these oils together.
If you use them singularly then the finished product will have a similar
consistency to the solid oil. It is very easy to make a solid perfume
using these oils. As usual create your essential oil synergy, then
simply melt the solid oil in a double boiler, when it has melted add your
essential oil synergy to it stir well and pour into small, sterilized pots.

Babies and Children

Babies
Babies have a highly developed sense of smell and only very small
amounts of essential oil should be used around them. This would
include what their mother uses if they are nursing the baby,
vaporizers or diffusers in the baby’s room, oils added to baby’s bath
and baby massage.
Essential oils and aromatic products can be used around babies,
however, you are limited to the oils that you can use and the dilution
you would use those oils at. For babies (0 – 12 month) use 1 drop of
Lavender, Roman/German Chamomile, Neroli, Dill or Mandarin to 10ml
(2 teaspoons) of carrier oil. This is the equivalent to 0.5% dilution.
Baby massage should be very light and for a very short period of
time. For a baby massage you can add one drop chamomile to
30ml of carrier oil. For more information on baby massage see our
Infant Massage e-book.
If you wish to add essential oil to the baby's bath, one drop of
chamomile would be diluted in 5ml (1 teaspoon) full fat milk and well
blended into the bath water before bathing the baby.
When using a vaporizer or diffuser add just one or two drops of
Neroli, Roman chamomile, Rose, Lavender or Mandarin for babies up to
six months. After six months you can add an extra drop. A baby’s
sense of smell is very acute and too much essential oil in the
atmosphere could cause the baby to become restless and irritable
instead of con- tented and happy.
If a baby is in pain due to colic, he/she could be soothed by a very
gentle massage on the tummy with a massage oil made up of 2
teaspoons of carrier oil (10 ml) with two drops of chamomile OR 2
drops of lavender. Work around the abdomen with firm but gentle
movements for about five minutes always in a clockwise direction. If
baby does not respond to this you could try gently massaging the
lower back.
Hydrosols work very well with babies and small children.

Children
From 18 months onward the child can be introduced to some of the
other essential oils. Diffuse or vaporize their favorite oil or blend. This
will often be the citrus or floral oils (such as Lavender, Rose, Mandarin
and Bergamot). Still keep the dilutions low.
Young children will not be able to lie still for a long period of time so
any massage time will vary depending on the age from 10 to 20
minutes.
After 12 years of age you can use the adult doses.
Essential oils to choose from:
➢ Newborn baby: German and Roman chamomile and
lavender. Total essential oil or essential oil synergy - 1-3 drops
in 30 ml carrier oil.
➢ Two – six months old: can add Mandarin and Neroli. Total
essential oil or essential oil synergy - 3 – 5 drops diluted in
30ml carrier oil.
➢ Six to twelve months old: can add Palmarosa, Grapefruit
and Tea Tree. Total, essential oil or essential oil synergy - 3 – 5
drops diluted in 30ml carrier oil.
➢ One to five years: can add Ginger but this should not be
more than a third of the total synergy and ginger should not be
used on its own. Total essential oil or essential oil synergy - 5 –
10 drops diluted in 30ml carrier oil.
➢ Five to seven years: add Ginger, Peppermint, Rosemary,
Clary Sage and Geranium. Again, none of these oils should
exceed a third of the total synergy. Don't use them on their
own. Total essential oil synergy use 5 – 12 drops diluted in 30ml
carrier oil.
➢ Seven to twelve years: all of the above plus Fennel,
Frankincense, Cypress and Basil use only at a third of the dosage
directed for the other oils - 5 – 15 drops diluted in 30ml carrier
oil.
➢ Twelve and over: Regular adult dilutions.
Many of the products listed in other parts of the book can be adapted
for children, just make the adjustments with respect to the age of
the child.

1 tablespoon essential oil/essential oil blend
2/3 cup boiling water
Food coloring if
desired. Cookie
Cutters if desired.

For colored stones add food coloring, one drop at a time, until the
desired shade is reached.

Working with a small amount at a time, roll dough between the palms of
your hands to form a small ball. Alternatively roll out the dough and cut
into interesting pat-terns with cookie cutters.
Allow stones to dry. They will hold their scent for up to 8 months.
Optional: If you want to hang these up as decorations make a little
hole at the top before leaving them to dry.

Wash Cloth Roses Method 1

Method:
1. Place the washcloth in front of you and fold in half.
2. Fold it again lengthwise. The cloth is no longer square but long
and narrow.

the roll slight to get the look of a rosebud.

Wash Cloth Roses Method 2
Materials:
Washcloth
Rubber band or safety pin
Ribbon for decorating
Method:
1. Place washcloth in front of you.
2. Fold the washcloth diagonally to make a triangle.
3. Place the washcloth on a flat surface so the fold is to the right
and the third point is to the left.
4. Take hold of the bottom corner of the folded washcloth and start
to roll it upward, slightly toward the left so you are rolling along
the left hand edge. Make the initial rolls as tight as possible.
5. When you are at the halfway point, start to move to the right as
you roll. Make the rolls a little looser from this point.
6. Continue rolling until the entire washcloth is rolled up.
7. Use a safety pin or rubber band to hold the loose end in place.
8. With the folded edge still to your right, take hold of the two
longest pieces of the roll that are positioned to the left. Pull
them downward and outward so you are turning them wrong
side out, curve the ends back up a little bit so they form the
outermost petals of the flower.
9. Pull, roll and fold the additional pieces to the left until they
shape nice petals for the rose.
10. Halfway down the washcloth, use green ribbon to tightly tie
the rosebud. Use additional green ribbon to wrap around the
base of the flower, covering it to make a stem. You can
either cover or remove the pin or rubber band during this
step.
11. Tie the green ribbon at the base of the stem. Consider
leaving pieces of the ribbon hanging if you want to tie the rose
to a package later.
12. To make a bouquet, place several flowers together and use a
brightly colored ribbon to tie them together with a bow.
Use:
Washcloth roses make a nice gift or part of a gift basket.
For an attractive way to store washcloths in the guest bathroom fold
several wash- cloths into roses, but do not pin them or tie them with
ribbon. Simply place a group of them into a decorate basket with the
rose buds visible. This display is decorative as well as a convenient
way to keep spare washcloths handy.

Beverley Hawkins, Essential Oil Therapist – EOT®, Registered Aromatherapist – RA®,
CAHP, Di.SPE. is a Registered Aromatherapist, massage therapist, reflexologist, Reiki
master, Bach Flower Registered Practitioner, Reconnective Healing Practitioner, Spiritual
PhytoEssencing Practitioner and educator is the owner and Instructor at the West Coast
Institute of Aromatherapy. She is passionate about aromatherapy, essential oils, and
practicing the art of aromatherapy safely and effectively.
She says “To be accepted into someone else’s ‘circle of trust’ and allowed to interact with
them on a personal level to create blends and protocols to help them with their challenges
is a real privilege. To then see how they change, blossom, grow, heal and move forward is
the reward of a job well done. Every time I am allowed to experience this, my love and
respect for aromatherapy and the use of aromatics grows. Aromatherapy is truly a
dynamic art and one I will never grow tired of. I am so very grateful to my students and
clients for affording me these wonderful opportunities to learn and grow in a field that I
love.”
While Beverley has an excellent understanding of the more scientific aspects that form the
foundations of this art, like aromatherapy chemistry, anatomy & physiology and research,
she also views her clients through a holistic lens. Because she works within this holistic
framework, she is very cognizant of the importance of blending for the whole person, body,
mind and spirit, and not just a condition. She believes that in order to get real results,
blends and protocols should be designed to address the whole individual and her
perspective is mirrored in the course material that she teaches.
