Refuge near Scottsboro and experience hundreds of thousands of bats
departing Sauta Cave at dusk to begin their nightly forage for insects.
Discovering Bats at Sauta Cave National Wildlife Refuge (Scottsboro, AL)
Driving Directions: Take I-565 east through Huntsville, take Hwy 72 east toward Scottsboro. Sauta Cave is
located on the right (south) side of the road between mile marker 130 and 131. Park to the side of the
metal gate and walk 0.25 mile behind the gate to the viewing deck.
Bring: Umbrella or jacket, insect repellent, and a flashlight.
