4. Job Description and Your Responsibilities

In brief, describe what your responsibilities were, or the responsibilities of the

person you observed.

While I job shadowed Phys-Ed Teacher Ms. White my responsibility was to bring the

football equipment out to the field and help the girls with their football drills. Ms.White

had to instruct the girls and demonstrate how the plays worked and answer any

questions they had.

5. The Day Itself

What was your day was like? What did you enjoy? What did you detest?

The day went well. I learned the difference between a Middle School Teacher and High

School Teachers. I enjoyed asking Ms.White about her experiences and hearing stories

about her students. When students were doing there own things and ignoring the

teacher at times it annoyed me because it was disrespectful and frustrating to deal with.

6. Overall Impression

Overall, would you like to do this job?

Yes, I feel that I would like this job. It’s very relaxed and there’s not much planning

involved. Also it is very hands on and it’s very different from classroom teaching. Being

a Phys-Ed teacher does not seem like something I would get bored with.

7. Recommendation

Who would you recommend this job too? What type of career pathways relate to

this job?

I would recommend this job to someone who loves sports and enjoys being active

everyday. For any teaching job you need to acquire people skills, because you’re

working with student’s everyday and there needs to be good communication. People

who work better with hands on tasks are also good for this career. To enter this career

you should have a keen interest for it, or else you would come to work and hate it.

Leadership and Chain of Command All the schools are in charge by peel. The school in particular is in charge by the principal. After the principal the vice principal in charge. This is chosen by the Peel District School Board, people with more experiences and better qualities. The teachers are chosen by the Principal and the Vice-Principals. Company purpose and Mission Statement The business teaches kids the basics they need to survive or to get a good job in the future. It helps us with skills we need to be successful in the job we chose. In the school they always say working together to reach new heights. This is said so that when everyone works together they can get a better education and get better skills to help them in the future. Contact Information Address- 65 Mount Royal Circle

L6P 2K4 Phone Number- (905) 794-4733 E-mail- Not provided Job Description and Your Responsibilities The teacher I was job shadowing was a gym teacher. He had to teach the kids a different sport and get them physically fit so they can live a longer and healthier life. When I went there I had to help take out the equipment they used, I helped put things away and I also kept score for the classes that played baseball. With one of the classes I led it jog, and helped everyone get to the finish line in their fastest time.

Page 7: Discovering the Workplace: Career Profiles

The Day Itself They day went by fast. I met a lot of different interesting kids and they were a lot of fun to be around. They were really small and very energetic. We had to lunch breaks and they were very short but they got me rested to be energetic for the next class. During the day I also had to go and help out another teacher. For her I just helped people cook and I took out and put things into the oven. The day was a lot of fun. Overall Impression Throughout my whole life I have wanted to become a teacher and this experience made me want it more. It was tiring but it was worth it. I knew I would be making a difference in their life, and that make me feel happy at the end of the day. Recommendations If I could change anything I would change how long the lunch breaks are because even though you get enough time to eat and rest up, it sometimes isn’t enough because the class before can ware you out, so its good to be ready to teach the other students.

What was your day was like? What did you enjoy? What did you detest? I went to Mount Royal around 8:00 am and came home around 3:00pm. My day went by very good. My feet ended up hurting a lot by the end of the day.

I would recommend this job to anyone who doesn’t mind standing up in front of a group of children and teaching them. The person in charge of business is Clement Agadzi, my step dad. He is his own boss/ self employed. He works as an electrician would. He owns his own business and he is a mechanic that repairs construction equipments. He goes from company to company fixing any equipment that may be damaged.

2. Company Purpose and Mission Statement. What does the business/company do? Mission statement?

He doesn’t really have a Mission statement except that he says as long as he gets paid for the job that he did he has no problem with anyone. What he does is fix the construction equipment. He repairs equipment like forklift, mortar mixer, jack hammer, drill, etc.

5. The Day Itself. What was your day was like? What did you enjoy? What did you detest? I work up about 9 in the morning and it ended I the afternoon. Since my step dad has his own business he goes when he feels like it. It seemed like a very long day because I just sat there for a while, but it wasn’t that bad because I got some food since there is and Italian catering place right next to the work station. I got as much food as my stomach can handle, which is a lot of food. While working with my step dad I made friend with the caterers and made friends with his people that he works with as co- workers. He’s not in charge of them but they work together to do good work.

6. Overall Impressions. Overall, would you like to do this job? I wouldn’t do this job personally because it is very hard work it takes a lot of effort and thinking. When I come home I want to be able to do other things instead of being tired and wanting to rest the rest of the day.

I would recommend this job to anyone who likes to work with their hand and come up with different ways to solve problems. If you don’t mind walking and lifting heavy stuff then this job is for you. Job description and your responsibility

The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have

the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and

psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an

instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance

with Sevenstar Academy policies.

The Day Itself

My day consisted of visiting all my old teachers. I saw a classroom in progress as well as

the work that must be completed after class. I observed how the teachers conducted the

Page 16: Discovering the Workplace: Career Profiles

students, and how they enforced good behavior. I would say I enjoyed visiting the

Responsibility Room because I felt like it was an important factor to the school. It was

where students that were misbehaving in class were sent to be disciplined.

Overall impression

My overall impression was that this was a rewarding job and a key factor to the

community. The teachers seemed happy and safe. There are many pros to this job as after

5 years of teaching you receive the summers off. However I was told that the first 5 years

of teaching is a very stressful period. Also I had a fun time, visiting my old teachers.

Recommendation

I would recommend this job to those who are patient and enjoy teaching. Also it is

important that they have extra time and are willing to put in the extra effort. Don’t go into

the career if you don’t love it.

In brief, describe what your responsibilities were, or the responsibilities of the person you observed.

At Harley Davidson I did things like talk to people I have seen before and then I had to wait until a guy my mom knew and he was of the bike mechanics while the others were on tour with a truck load of bikes. He taught me a lot about bikes and how they work. He told me about things about line of work, how to budget my time if I want to become a mechanic and los of other things. At the mechanic shop part of the building I was helping out with the construction of bikes that were there for repair and some of the racing bikes that they had waiting to be tested on the track. What was your day was like? What did you enjoy? What did you detest?

At Harley Davidson my day was the best it could be. I learned a lot about bikes and about the people that work there and why they loved what they did and why they do it. I enjoyed learning about bikes and putting some of them together and putting on accessories on bikes that people that ordered them and even helping out

Page 19: Discovering the Workplace: Career Profiles

the mechanic who worked on the racing bikes. At Harley I didn’t really detest anything but waiting for the guy I was going to work with but other than that I really enjoyed going there. Overall, would you like to do this job?

The thing I liked most at Harley was learning. I learned a lot about bikes and that it is only seasonal because nobody rides when it’s cold like in the winter. I also learned that a bike engine was very similar to a car engine and that it is just long not wide like a car.

Page 20: Discovering the Workplace: Career Profiles

Who would you recommend this job too? What type of career pathways relate to this job? I would recommend this job to someone that is patient and takes their time to get things done properly and correct, someone who enjoys working with their hands, someone who likes the mystery of why things aren’t working the way they are supposed to and likes to figure out why and how they are going to change the thing that is broken or malfunctioning. The career pathway for this job is to pick courses that involve things being built or even fix. This will help you with fixing things or learning how things operate and how they can be fixed.

Leadership and Authority

The person in charge of Best Buy in Bramalea City Centre is Param Singh; he is the general manager of this location. The Manager of the LP (Loss Prevention) department is Danielle Morais. Under her is all the employees of Best Buy that work in the Loss Prevention Department. The one I job shadowed was Kadian.

Company Purpose and Mission Statement

We search hard to find the quality products and services that will provide long term satisfaction.

Finding the best price may be easy, but buying quality along with price often make a huge difference in increasing customer satisfaction.

Contact Information

Best Buy #954 25 Peel Centre Drive Unit #451 Brampton, Ontario L6T 3R5 905 494 2179 [email protected]

Job Description and Responsibilities

While job shadowing Kadian at Best Buy, I learned a lot of things, such as people aren’t as easy to deal with as you thought, some of them don’t stop when they beep on their way out, and others complain about small things. Loss Prevention has a big part in Best Buy, they prevent items from being stolen or misplaced. We checked receipts of people walking out and sending people to the return desks as they walked in, if needed.

The Day Itself

The day was pretty boring, you stand there and watch people in and out, and if trouble comes or some problems arise, you call mall security and other LP members to come assist you. Its boring checking peoples receipts and bags, sometimes it takes long, and when people disagree its hard to deal with them. I hate people that don’t stop when the machines beep.

Overall Impression

I wouldn’t mind doing this job part-time or full time seasonal, but not as a career, its boring, and when something arises, no one acknowledges you as being the solution to the problem.

Page 22: Discovering the Workplace: Career Profiles

Recommendation

I recommend this job to high school and university / college students because it’s a nice and easy way to make money, the pay is decent too.

By: Prabhjot Sekhon

Page 23: Discovering the Workplace: Career Profiles

For my job shadowing, I went to my interview my sister’s piano teacher: Elaine Luc. For most Piano teachers, the leadership and chain of command isn’t too difficult to figure out. The chain of command is usually between the teacher and student, where the teacher, of course, is in charge of the business; although, if you’re taking about a big teaching business, the manager of that business is the leader. For my sister however, the teacher is in charge. As the name implies, Elaine teaches other students on how to play the piano, teaching them various notes and keys, as they perform songs that rise in difficulty the better the student becomes. As the piano teacher, it is Elaine’s responsibility to make sure that all health and safety rules and regulations are taken into consideration, such as washing hands before and after using the piano and cleaning the piano regularly, and that all students are satisfied with the teaching method and environment. On the day of my job shadowing, I got to witness what it was like being a piano teacher and learned how difficult it was to teach others on how to play the piano. However, I also learned how fun playing the piano could be. During my day with the piano teacher, I got the chance to learn and play a song that the teacher usually taught her students- Lost Woods. The experience was truly a wonderful moment for me. In conclusion, my day with the piano teacher has taught me what a wonderful experience it is to teach and play piano to others. Although, having this job full time wouldn’t be something I’d like to do, having this job as a part time job would be good because of the job’s good pay and helping of others. If you like music and are interested in teaching others about it, then this job is highly recommended! If you would like to contact Elaine Luc about Piano lessons or have any questions about piano or piano teaching, you may phone her at (905)-345-4583 or email her at [email protected]! Leadership and Chain of Command

My mom works on the fifth floor and is in charge of the floor. Next in charge is the floor manager, next in charge is the Director of Medicine, next in charge is Vice President, and next in charge is the Hospital Vice President. There are three shifts which are the day shift from 7:30am to 7:30pm or 7:30am to 3:30pm. Evening shifts are from 3:30pm to 11:30pm. Lastly, night shifts are from 7:30pm to 7:30am or 11:30pm to 7:30am. Company Purpose and Mission Statement At Humber River Regional Hospital they are committed to delivering high quality care safely and respectfully to the patients daily. “Proud of our diversity and proud of our care.” Contact Information 200 Church Street Western, Ontario M9N 1N8 (416) 249-8111 Job Description and Your Responsibilities

The responsibilities of an In Charge Nurse are to make schedules, and assign all nurses patients whom they will care for during their shift. If any nurse or patient has a concern or question they come to the In Charge Nurse. Also you are responsible for organizing how a patient is going to be discharged from the hospital. The Day Itself

My day started at 7:30 in the morning and ended at 3:30 in the afternoon. My day was boring because my mom sat at a table making schedules, answering phone calls, making phone calls also answering other staff member’s questions and concerns. I didn’t like sitting at a table all day and the paper work. The one thing I did enjoy was speaking to one of the patients.

Overall Impression

To become an Incharge nurse can certainly be an option but it not my first. I would not like to do this profession due to many reasons. First of all, you are responsible for everything that happens on the floor. Also if anyone working on the floor needs help they come to you. Furthermore, this profession doesn’t interest me. As I was job shadowing my mom, I was bored and I wasn’t really fascinated by what she did. Lastly, I can’t stand seeing elderly people and the health problems they are facing. To conclude I don’t like to be in the hospital environment.

Job Description and Your Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the behavioral teacher include teaching character education to the students, conflict resolution, social skills and also helping with crisis intervention when behavioral and emotional problems occur.

The Day Itself

My day was very exciting because I got to work with little students and I really enjoyed myself. I got to see the different kinds of problems that occur in elementary schools and how students try to prevent them. I also got to assist kindergarten students decorate a pot for Mother’s day. Despite the fact that the kids were loud and hard to control I still found myself fascinated and amused by their childish ways.

Overall Impression

Overall I would like this to be my future career because seeing a student come into the school at the beginning of the year and not knowing anything and leaving at the end of the year with some knowledge and how to say a few words is the greatest gift because you know that you have made a difference in someone’s life.

Recommendation

I would recommend this job to anyone who likes to work with little kids and has patience. Some other career pathways that relate to this job could include daycare teacher and pediatrician since these careers also involve responsibility towards little kids.

Job Description and Your Responsibilities

My responsibilities while job shadowing were to answer calls from clients and confirm that the companies

safety standards were being upheld by all the employees and equipment. My responsibilities were basically the

same as the owner of the business except I did not have to keep any financial records or make invoices to send

to excavating companies.

The Day Itself

My day was exciting and fun because everyone in the company was very friendly. I enjoyed inspecting the

trucks because I have previous experience from Transportation Technology class and it was easy for me and

fun because I got to work on engines twice the size of any car engine. I disliked talking to unhappy clients on

the phone because they usually were rude.

Overall Impression

I believe I would want to do this job full time because it makes a large amount of profit, it does not require a

lot of physical labour and lastly, it doesn’t need many of the essential skills. I also, would like this job because

it requires a lot of communication when talking to clients, and mathematical work, which I like, when

preparing invoices and taking dispatch percents off of the employees payments.

Recommendation

I would recommend this job to individuals who have a lot of patience and are not afraid to take risks such as

losing huge investments. All transportation and management career pathways relate to this job.
