DISI Working Groups (Revised 2/16/15)

In order for the DISI committee to better fulfill its mission, the group made plans in 2014 to adjust its structure

and create working groups. These smaller teams function as sub-committees who can work on specific tasks.

With members able to work in areas where they have expertise and interest we hope to bolster participation

and optimize volunteer efforts. We have taken the liberty of plugging individual committee members into

each working group (see in red), but please let us know if you feel that your skill set would be better utilized

elsewhere.

1.

Brand, Marketing Communications (Nancy Amaral as co-lead with Mike Brown), Advertising & PR (Jesse

Nelson and Lucinda Alipio with consultation from Karen Wertman). We may want consider dividing this

into 2 again – it’s a lot for one smaller group to handle. ALSO – this demonstrates potential benefit of

hiring a part-time marketing person or highly-skilled intern.

a.  Develop and maintain a clear, articulated brand for joint districts to support broad mission.

b.  Help shape overall communication effort to stakeholders and public and ensure alignment with

messaging on website, in collateral, etc.

c.  Review and advise on advertising and marketing initiatives (i.e. Oakland Central campaign),

including budgeting, metrics and ROI.

d.

Review PR strategy/plan; define expectations and monitor efforts of PR contractor. e.

Educate board members to enable all to tell consistent positive story (i.e. media training.)

f.

Coordinate with staff, other working groups, Board and outside contractors as needed.

2.

Event Sponsorship & Partnership- (Andrea Kirkpatrick as lead with CJ Hirschfield, Laurie Cooperman-

Rosen, Jabari Gray an Karissa Obeso)

a.  Refine/adapt current sponsorship criteria and objectives.

b.  Evaluate sponsor requests.

c.  Develop criteria and objectives for creating and utilizing strategic partnerships.

d.  Coordinate marketing opportunities (i.e. website features, link reciprocity, etc.) to ensure

optimization of publicity from partnership and sponsorships.

3.

Business Attraction and Retention  – (Sara May as lead with Ramsey Wright, Steve Douglas and Ke

Norman)

a.  Identify and implement key activities, programs and marketing tools such as collateral to attract

businesses (i.e. popups or window signs).

a.  Develop broker tours and outreach to other key audiences.

b.

Help curate content for the “Do business” section of oaklandcentral.com website.
