Kansas Highway Patrol Thanks KMCA for Child Car Seat Donation
Each year, KMCA partners with the Kansas Highway Patrol to promote Child Passenger Safety Week. KMCA donated 105 booster seats to be distributed statewide via KHP troopers and child seat technicians. On Sept. 17, 2013, KMCA held a press conference with the Kansas Highway Patrol at the KHP Headquarters. Jane Westerman, DeClue Transport, KMCA President, spoke on behalf of KMCA. This is the 14th year KMCA has made a commitment to preserving the lives of Kansas children with their car seat donations. KMCA received this letter from Colonel Ernest Garcia sharing his gratitude:
On behalf of the Kansas Highway Patrol and citizens of Kansas, I would like to thank you, and express my sincere gratitude for the donation of child safety seats and your continued support of National Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week.
The Patrol truly values the partnership we have enjoyed with the Kansas Motor Carriers Association over the years. Annually, the KMCA has generously donated 105 child safety seats to the Patrol for our Public Resource Officers to distribute to families that may otherwise be unable to provide for their children. Over a period of 14 years, this has added up to a significant boost to the overall safety of our youngest Kansans being transported by motor vehicles.
KMCA reinforces what the Highway Patrol has known for years. KMCA, representing the trucking industry in Kansas, is a concerned and valuable traffic safety partner dedicated to its community.
The Kansas Highway Patrol and citizens of Kansas are fortunate to have such a traffic safety conscious partner. As always, the Patrol was pleased to have the opportunity to be involved in such a wonderful initiative, and we look forward to continuing our great working relationship.
Sincerely,
Ernest E. Garcia, ColonelKansas Highway Patrol

Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement, community involvement and financial need. The Foundation will provide financial assistance for college and trade school students. Scholarships may be used to meet such expenses as tuition, books, and housing.
Eligibility: Applicants must be high school graduates or seniors. They must also be attending school full-time, 12-hours per semester. Applicants, including previous KMCA Foundation Scholarship recipients may apply each qualifying year.

Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins Visits Frito Lay to Learn About Trucking Industry Issues
Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins pictured with Frito Lay driver Kim Haney.
On Mon., Sept. 16, Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins spent the morning at the Topeka Traffic Center. The intent of her visit was to spend time with a Transportation company in the area. Frito Lay was selected based on their industry involvement with ATA and KMCA, as well as a strong commitment to safety. During the time with Congresswoman Jenkins, the local team spent time educating her on the current service area for Topeka Traffic as well as challenges currently facing the transportation industry.
A key part of the visit included OTR driver Kim Haney. She spent time illustrating the impact recent Hours of Service legislation have had on her and her peers in the industry. Additionally, Kim educated the Congresswoman on the in-cab hours tracking tool, known as TMAP. As a result of the visit, the Congresswoman left Topeka with an increased working knowledge of the industry.
