A Key Club Halloween

Hey Grizzlies! Did you know that Key Club has been participating in the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF event since 1994? Well, Halloween 2011 is right around the corner, and it’s the perfect chance to gather contributions to this great cause. Remember, though, this is a year-long campaign, so you will have lots more opportunities to come up with other fundraising ideas. All of this year’s funds will go toward the eliMiNaTe project.

For more information, go to: youth.unicefusa.org/trickortreat/

Need cupcakes?

Try baking some creative seasonal treats for your next Key Club event—dessert for your club’s potluck lunch, a snack at a volunteer event, a fundraiser at your school’s bake sale! Just add one of the funky frosting styles below, or invent your own Halloween cupcakes!

P.S. Don’t forget to check out all health and

food regulations that apply before you start baking.

Club Updates

This month, Lincoln High's Key Club participated on the homecoming Carnival on the 14th, where we sold Arizona Iced Tea and chocolate chip cookies, making a total of about $350. We also helped out at the harvest festivals at the elementary schools. Don Riggio's was on the 7th, Brookside's was on the 21th, and John R. Williams's and Colonel Heights's were on the 28th. Our club is also excited to go to Fall Rally! L

With 126 paid members and 84 attending Fall Rally, Bear Creek Key Club is on its feet and rolling. The club recently kick-started a new service event called the Theater Clean-up on October 12 in which we cleaned the theater in preparation for the premiere of its Fall production in November. The Spirit Leader Coordinators Kevin Yamada and Tim Caluya took advantage of the club's time together by spontaneously writing and recording a Key Club rap with fellow members Chris Wardrip and Gerard Perez. This rap, meant to pump members up for Fall Rally, can be heard on the Divsion 27 Facebook page. From all the Bruin-Grizzly hybrids at Bear Creek: D27 IS WHAT WE'RE REPPIN'. Pinkies up!

Hello! In terms of old news, Chavez Key Club has already helped out at a few events. For example, the Greek Food Festival and the Heart Walk. At the Greek Food Festival, members were assigned certain tasks by the staff hosting the event, such as directing traffic in the parking lot to open parking spaces, or assisting in the dining hall, collecting and cleaning trays on which the food was placed. At the Heart Walk, members cheered on the participating runners and walkers, aided in passing out food and drinks to the participants, and, afterwards, helped the hosting staff clean up.

We also have a number of upcoming events. In both November and December, we have two dates set up to volunteer at our local Salvation Army. On one day, Thanksgiving, we will be serving lunch, and on the other dates, we will be collecting, sorting, and distributing toys and food boxes. We have also begun a collection of boxes to be filled with daily items, that we will donate to the local Women's Center. In addition, like the rest of the clubs, we will be attending Fall Rally, and are extremely excited and anxious to attend! We have reserved a bus to transport our members who will be attending, and will also be taking some of Franklin's members as well. We are continuing to search for any opportunities to volunteer and serve our community! Thank you!

Hello and Good Evening! This week is our first week back from our 2 week fall break, but during the break we were still very active servicing our community. On September 24th we attended our first community service event, the San Joaquin Heart Walk at U.O.P, which was a large success because we had 20 members show up. After that we had the take over at the Kiwanian meeting (which was on the 28th at UJ's) in which we sold $283 worth of baked goods, thanks to our awesome members who made the delicious baked goods. Then on September 30th we attended our second community service event which we helped the mentally or the physically disabled enjoy their time at Dell'Osso Farms. As of future plans community service plans, on November 13th we will be attending the Stockton Half Marathon. Aside from that as club we are very excited for Fall Rally; the members are pumped and ready.

At around 2am, a lot of the attendees started to get sleepy, so a corner was established so those that could not stay awake could get some rest. After all, it was a Friday evening/Saturday morning and it had been a long week.

Continuing at 3am, treasurer Karen Hoi, members Kenny Huynh, Elias Crawford, Byron Munoz, and I started a game of Apples to Apples. Every few minutes, another attendee would join in on the game, until we had 11 people playing the game. It was a great bonding moment, especially because we played until 4:15am; everyone was completely exhausted, and we could see how well some of the players knew each other by winning the others' cards :)

Even though most of the attendees were tired, we played the movie Date Night on the projector, while everyone else was starting wake up or realize how exhausted they were. After placing the tables and chairs back to their proper place and vacuuming the room, everyone went home after a fun, tiring night at 7am.

Special thanks to our supervisors Mr Musich and Mr. and Mrs. Saalwaechter! This could not have happened without their contribution, and even more gratitude of thanks to the Saalwaechters for their donations of pizza, snacks, and juice to the awakeathon :D.

Hello! My name is Jonathan Wong and I am the vice-president of Tracy High School Key Club. From the evening of October 7th to the morning of October 8th, our club hosted an awake-a-thon from 8pm to 7am to raise money for PTP. Our entrance fee was $10, and with a total of 54 guests, we raised $540 :)

At our awakeathon, a myriad of things were going on at once. My laptop was connected to the projector, and in addition to that, we plugged in my Wii and we were playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Double Dash. When everyone grew tired of that, my friend Mika Mendoza brought in her PS3 and they played Black Ops through the night.

That's not all! In the other areas of the large room, there were groups watching movies, playing board games, or just talking to each other. Even though some of us were separated for a majority of the time, we had hourly ice breakers to get to know each other.

At 11:30pm, we had a game of musical chairs, won by the late entrant Kristian Pham. At 1am, we played charades. That involved some of the other officers showing silly faces and prancing around the room, trying to have others to guess what they were acting for half an hour, unsuccessfully of course :).Soon after, Sergeant-of-Arms Ivan Diaz and a couple other attendees started to play Just Dance on the Wii. Almost everyone got involved in the game, and it was enjoyable watching everyone dance around. Immediately after, Ivan plugged in a magic mike in, and for a while, he and a few others such as Jennifer Diaz and Jennifer Ballardo began to sing off the top of their lungs. :)
