Hello Division 4!

It’s been a great summer, but alas, all

good things must come to an end. We’ve

been busy this summer and I greatly ap-

preciate all the efforts made by Division 4

members. I wish everyone good luck in the

new school year, and I hope that every-

one is at least satisfied with their timeta-

bles.

Key Club will be picking up in the upcom-

ing months and I look forward to making

my club visits and meeting the members of

Division 4.

Cheers,

Katherine Gall,

Reflection on the August 10th Cleanup

On August 10th, several Key Club members and execu-

tive members from Division 4 gathered in the afternoon

at MacBain Community Centre in Niagara Falls to par-

ticipate in the Division 4’s Community Clean-up orga-

nized by the Lieutenant Governor (LG) Katherine Gall.

We were able to exchange greetings and get to know

several new Kiwanians and members from other Key

Clubs.

With our bright neon vests, gloves and garbage bags,

we were ready to partake in the clean-up. The LG,

Katherine showed everyone a map of the Community

Centre, highlighting the specific areas targeted for the

clean-up. Then, we were divided into several teams to

clean-up the highlighted areas. Throughout this clean-

up, each member took the initiative to work coopera-

tively with each other to pick up litter and make sure

every space was covered effectively. In addition, each

Key Club member displayed leadership in contributing

to cleaning up our environment.

After the clean-up, each member compiled the gar-

bage bags together and disposed of it accordingly.

Then, we continued to meet new members and ex-

change positive comments about how we felt regard-

ing the clean-up. Several photos were also taken

throughout the clean-up, which made it even more

memorable for everyone. The Clean-up was a wonder-

ful and fun experience for each Key Club member, as

everyone felt great about cleaning-up our own environ-

ment for a cleaner and brighter future. This was a great

continuation for this year’s Division 4’s Service Project

and we hope to continue with more in the near future!

Reflection on the August 31st Car Wash

5

On August 31st members from the A.N. Myer and

St. Paul Key Clubs ran a car wash at St. Andrews

United Church to raise money for the Division 4

Kids Against Hunger Meal Packaging Event in No-

vember.

We had approximately fifteen members from the

two clubs show up, along with four parents who

helped out during the day. The car wash was

held from 10:00am to 3:00pm. We had people

stationed on the streets with signs, which attract-

ed and brought in the cars. Once pulled in, a Key

Clubber would instruct them where to park their

car and handed them an information slip. The in-

fo slip explained what Key Club was, what Kids

Against Hunger was, and why we were holding

the car wash. While cars were getting washed,

we also held a BBQ with food and refreshments. It

was a great day spent with fabulous people,

while helping others.

- Jacob Sackett , Member of A.N. Myer Key Club

We raised

$383.65!

Remember!

All applications must be received by the Key Club International staff no later

than October 15 to remain eligible.

Any application deemed incomplete for lack of information or detail will be de-

nied.

Youth Opportunities Fund applications are subject to all terms listed in Article O

of the Key Club International Board Policies, found in Section 2 of this organiza-

tion’s official Guidebook.

Contact LG Katherine with additional questions on the Youth Opportunities

Fund.

What is it?

The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an endowed fund for Key Club International

held within the Kiwanis International Foundation. It uses interest, as well as a portion

of your International dues payment, to help Key Clubs and Key Club members

serve the world around them by providing them with grants to carry out worthwhile

service projects and fundraisers. The Youth Opportunities Fund application process

has been designed to be simple and straightforward.

YOF grants help you

Kiwanis Spotlight: Youth Opportunities Fund

Part 2/2

Application and Award Process

Step 1. Begin the Form

Obtain an official Youth Opportunities Fund

grant application. You’ll need to choose

one Key Club member and one involved

adult to be contacts for the selection com-

mittee. Have them complete the first two

sections of the application form.

Get your application here: http://

keyclub.ca/documents/

KeyClubYOFGrantform.pdf

Step 2. Declare your Project

Prior to beginning your application, your club

should have discussed the project with which

they’d like YOF assistance. Write that pro-

ject’s name and short description in the third

section of the form, and continue to break it

down in the next two sections:

Problem – What made you choose the pro-

ject you did? Describe the situation you seek

to improve through your club’s service. Re-

member, the selection committee won’t be

familiar with the circumstances of your appli-

cation, so be as descriptive as possible in this

section.

Solution – Here you’ll find several questions as

to how you will address the problem you’ve

already stated. Be sure to include all neces-

sary information, or your application may be

denied.

Step 3. Address the Finances

A detailed budget for your project is a

must! Account for every dollar of both your

YOF grant, and the additional funds you’ve

raised for the project. Remember, you may

request anywhere from $100 to $2000 from

the YOF, but all that money must appear in

your finished budget. It is acceptable to

attach a separately prepared document

to your application. Step 4. Complete and Mail

There are four statements included in the fi-

nal section of the YOF application form.

Once you’ve completed every field and

read these conditions, have your Key Club

member contact (from section one), adult

advisor (from section two), and school princi-

pal sign and date the form. Mail all your doc-

uments to: Youth Opportunities Fund, 3636

Woodview Trace, Indianapolis, IN, 46268-3196
