Hello Division 4!
I hope you’re all enjoying the summer. Despite the week-long
heat wave that hit us, I wish that you’re keeping busy and
active. Summer gives a perfect time to catch up on sleep,
earn some money, and think about the future (well isn’t that
a scary thought). I must say though, we have had a busy
month, and rest assured there are many things to come.
While we have had only a few events in July, clubs execu-
tives and I have been working hard fleshing out ideas, re-
searching projects, and mentally preparing for the busy sec-
ond half of summer.
To all those working during this summer –> best of luck!
To all those looking into the scary world of post-secondary
education –> remember it isn’t a life or death situation.
To all those sleeping and relaxing the summer away –> I wish I
was in your shoes.
And to everyone – >Enjoy the rest of summer!
Cheers,

Reflection on MERA Clean-up
Written by Stephanie Philpott, Co-President of A.N. Myer Key Club
On July 6th a few executive members of A.N. Myer Key Club followed our LG, Katherine Gall,
down to visit our friends in Oakville. While there, we were able to not only get to know some of
the Oakville members, but got the chance to participate in a clean-up with MERA. MERA, or the
Marine Environmental Restoration Alliance, is a youth led group recently formed by some pas-
sionate teenagers in Oakville. MERA was formed after Rob Stewarts film Sharkwater spurred Alex
Girard or Irene Cho to take action and take back the environment. At the MERA clean-up we
were educated on the types of waste we would encounter and which types posed the greatest
threat to the marine environment. Keeping the newfound information in mind, Myer got to work
and walked the shoreline cleaning with our peers. Highlights of the day included meeting the
mayor of Oakville and getting to see former president Sally Kim one last time before she leaves
for the University of Waterloo to study architecture. From start to finish the MERA clean-up was a
great beginning to our Division Service Project!
