RANGOLI ART TALK BYJANAK CHAUHAN

Janak Chauhan, resident in Baroda, India, has been

practicing the art of Rangoli for over thirty years.

In this talk you can listen to stories of how he learnt

the art form and find out his inspirations. Janak will

provide a picture of the differences between Rangoli

art in the UK and India. Plus there will be a chance

to ask your questions about Rangoli art.

DIWALI STORYTELLING

The art of Rangoli can be passed down to

children, adults and families of all ages who in

turn can keep the ancient tradition alive. Join in

with this Rangoli activity and share your skills

while learning new ones!

Visit Belgrave Library and be transported by words

and your imagination in to a world of light and

celebration through Diwali stories shared together.

RANGOLI MASTERCLASS

International Rangoli artist, Janak Chauhan, will

be passing on his Rangoli skills through intense

master classes. Classes are open to anyone – from

experienced artists to people who simply enjoy

being creative, are looking for new challenges,

interested in learning a new art form or just

enhancing existing Rangoli techniques.

Lumos, meaning light, is a important part of

many cultures and communities across the globe,

including Diwali. Join us to explore the story of

Diwali and learn about other stories of light from

around the world. Create your own lanterns and

take part in a light procession on 18th October.

SUFI:ZEN BY AKADEMI

Sufi: Zen is an energised dance performance which

contrasts the intensity of Sufi mysticism with the

stillness of Zen meditation. Influenced by kathak,

butoh and contemporary dance disciplines and

the work of 13th century poet Rumi.

MELA RANGOLI ART EXHIBITION

The purpose of rangoli art is celebratory and for

decorative purposes. Created by a number of artists,

including Janak Chauhan from India, this display of

elaborate designs will reflect traditions, folklore and

practices that are unique to each area of India. This

truly international exhibition will be a colourful and

extravagant display of Rangoli art and a celebration

of Diwali.
