EYP WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
E very year, the ‘10 October is celebrated as World Mental Health Day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992, at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health. The EYP section at RBKIA celebrated “World Mental Health Day” through various activities like story sessions, music & movements, relaxing games and also a guest speaker session. Students from Nursery were shown videos that contained emotional short stories. Later, students had interactive class discussions and came up with words related to emotions such as sadness, anger, happiness, grumpiness and so on. Students also made hand puppets that depicted their moods. They even sang a rhyme on emotion, “When you are happy and you know it clap your hands”. Through these activities students understood that emotional behavioural adjustment is of importance for a happy and healthy life.

EYP
K1B – PASSING THE PARCEL
K1B learners took part in a fun yet
relaxing game during circle time. They
sat in a circle, passed the ball around
while the music was played. When he
music stopped, the child who was
holding the ball stood up and shared
what he or she likes and dislikes, thus,
sharing his or her feelings and
emotions. The music restarted and the
game continued until each child had
shared his or her likes and dislikes.
Through this game children learnt that
sharing their emotions and feelings
with each other is important to
develop their communication skills.

M athematics is
an important part of
learning for all children in
the early years and receiving
a good base in Maths is an
essential life skill. It helps
them to recognize, create
and describe patterns,
which is essential
for early problem solving
skills.
K2 A learners celebrated
Math day on 15 October
2019 by carrying out various
math related activities like
fun with puzzle, building my
tower with ordinals,
climbing the ladder of skip
count by 5 & 10 and number
value with bottle caps.
Students also created
beautiful patterns with
bottle caps.
MATH DAY—K2A

EYP MATH DAY—K2B
M athematics introduces
children to concepts, skills and
thinking strategies that are
essential in everyday life. It helps
children make sense of the
numbers, patterns and shapes
they see in the world.
Mathematics offers children a
powerful way of communicating.
They learn to explore and explain
their ideas using symbols,
diagrams and spoken and
written language. Learning
mathematics stimulates
curiosity, fosters creativity and
equips children with the skills
they need in life beyond school.
The math activities are the
perfect way to get our young
learners excited about numbers
and early math concepts, which
are combining art, crafts, games
and fun activities. K2-B
learners on “Math Day” enjoyed
exploring and building
foundational math skills such as
skip count by 5, ordinal numbers,
number value, and fun with
shapes using clay, and even
creating different patterns with
different objects.

PYP GR 2
S tudents of Grade 2 attended a session put up by (team Brainy- A Division of Brain Child Learning) organized by the parent of Shaurya from 2 C on 10th October 2019 in the school Library. The session was very interesting as the speaker organized a lot of activities for the students. She started the session with a question answer round. Further she taught them to do some hand movements which could help them improve concentration and stay focused. She also conducted an activity with one of the student by covering his eye and asking him to identify and visualize objects. The 2nd Graders ended their session with a bang by dancing on a song. Later the organizers and the speaker gifted a goody bag to the students. It was thus an enriching learning experience for the students of Grade 2.

PYP GR 2 GRADE 2- VISIT TO JAYESH INDUSTRIES LTD.
T o have a better understanding of their present UOI- Organisation, the learners of Grade 2 were taken to
Jayesh Industries Ltd on 11th October . Right from travelling to exploring the entire industry, it had been an
exciting trip for all the children. The learners showed great enthusiasm, when they were explained about
the entire organisation section by section. The departments were well segregated as according to the
process, right from the breaking down and collection, to storage of the chemicals. The learners indeed were
active inquirers and illustrated great curiosity to know more. After exploring the industry, all the children
assembled together to relish the tempting refreshments arranged by the Organisation. With this trip the
learners were able to apprehend how an organisation actually works. A big thank you to Hirak Shah’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shah, for their efforts and time they put in to make this trip a successful one.

PYP GR 3 3D ROOMS PRESENTATION- INNOVATE, CREATE, INSPIRE…
IB education encourages innovative and unique
approach to teaching and learning which helps
students to develop their understanding of a
concept to their full potential. As students inquired
into the unit on Arts, a trans disciplinary approach
was used to explore various aspects of the theme.
Students confidently applied their Math skills into
the current UOI, by creating 3 D rooms using 3 D
geometrical shapes, colours, paints, play dough etc.
Students sat in groups and used their critical
thinking skills, to create a rough layout, researched
about how different rooms of a house look, cuboid
and rectangle shaped things found in the house and
then created beautiful colourful rooms for the
learning engagement. This enabled them to develop
their thinking skills as they brainstormed ideas and
social skills as they worked in groups.
It is rightly quoted Innovation is the key for
everything the future can be. Our little Grade 3
architects definitely proved this quote through their
innovative and creative thinking.

PYP CYBER SAFETY DAY
T oday with advancing technology, we have become more connected than ever before. These advances are making our lives easier; however, they are also adding extra risks to our privacy. Our identities can get stolen while we log in to gaming areas, checking email, or use social media, unless they are functioning from secure websites. Every time the student’s login, they are putting themselves at risk. There are many simple ways that these risks can be reduced, but it starts with cyber security awareness. At RBKIA, we know the importance of cyber safety for our students. We had an interactive workshop conducted by Ms. Abhipsa and Ms.Firdous from KPMG for our PYP students. They reminded students to never share their passwords and personal information, such as name, home address, or mobile number with strangers. They guided the students on how to make the passwords secure – by including letters, numbers and symbols to make it harder to crack. They explained the basics of staying safe online. Some of the key matters highlighted by KPMG were: 1. to download games from
legitimate sites 2. not to be friends with , people
you don’t actually know in real life,
3. be aware of cyber bullies 4. if one ever feel uncomfortable
or threatened by someone online, immediately stop communicating and inform parents or teachers. The students enjoyed the session and they took active part, and shared their personal experiences.

PYP SYNONYM ENSEMBLE
S tudents of Grade 5B were very enthusiastic while performing the
group activity Synonym ensemble, wherein they selected the synonym of the
given words, and weaved a story, using the backdrop of landforms. They
created their own check list. This activity helped the students to expand their
vocabulary as well as diction. It also enhanced their creativity as well as
cooperative skills.

MYP TRIP WITH GRADE 6 TO PANCHAGANI
This trip was indeed a refreshing experience with Panchgani, a region surrounded by hills and often resort to for recreational activities! With the constant hustle of Mumbai, the clean and fresh air with ample of nature offered by Panchagani was a much needed and appreciated break for many. The 3 day trip was a getaway admist nature where each morning we were woken up by the chirping of birds and the beautiful sunrise. Facing our hotel was a farmland where strawberries were harvested. October, not being the season of strawberries, we couldn’t eat them fresh from the farm! The entire 3 days trip filled with fun and games and visits to touristic spots and nature trails was enjoyed by all. Here is a brief little introduction to Panchgani for those keen to visit this place in future. "Deriving its name from the five hills surrounding it, Panchgani is a popular hill station near Mahabaleshwar, famous for its various sunset/sunrise points and scenic valley view. Located at an altitude of 1, 334 mts, Panchgani is a hill station in Maharashtra, known for its scenic views. Five hills form the Sahyadri mountain ranges offer Panchgani its name. The picturesque backdrop of hills on one side and coastal plains on the other makes for an amazing view. In the British era, the place was treated as a summer resort and hence many colonial period establishments can be seen here. Mahabaleshwar is like a twin city to Panchgani. Here is a Grade 6 student’s experience summarized in a few words….
Reflections
“From the 1st to the 4th of October 6th grade went on an overnight trip to Panchgani. It was going to be an exhilarating trip to the hill station. We would be going to many Interesting and exciting places to shop, see and play. The day had finally arrived; I was finally leaving for my 4 day trip…yaaay! I was super excited and pumped. Day 1- 1st October On the first day we boarded our AC bus and met with the Adventure team, our tour guides. After a few hours in the bus, we stopped at Mcdonalds. I was so happy to eat there but that’s not even the best part. After a hearty lunch, we visited the Mahabaleshwar Bazaar and the Mapro Outlet. I totally loved the things that I bought there. They were everything that I ever wished for. We also bought some lovely gifts for our family. I had heard about the chocolates in the Mapro outlet and I just had to see it for myself. It was totally worth it and I had to get some for myself too. After this we went back to Millennium Park, our hotel, to go and rest before we had dinner. After dinner we went to sleep, eagerly waiting for the next day to arrive. Day 2- 2nd October Everyone woke up to a brilliant alarm and got ready for our 2nd day in Panchgani. While breakfast we were reacquainted with our family on phones and we were back on the bus to Parsi Point which showed us a superb view of the farmlands of Vai. I personally think that this was a very tiring day but fun. At Parsi point, we played many games and I think we got scammed but anyways, leave that! We then trekked up Sidney Point where we saw another great view. We visited the cheese factory and tasted some yummy cheese. We also went to Table land, the 2nd biggest plateau in Asia where we played Duck, duck, goose! We saw a lot of horses and ponies there. It was really fun.…..”

MYP TRIP WITH GRADE 6 TO PANCHAGANI
Day 3- 3rd October This was the best day! We woke up to another yummy breakfast and left for Net adventure where we went on a Zip line and Burma Bridge and we also had an obstacle course, tire activity and a lot more adventurous ones!. To end the day with a little fun and enthusiasm, we went to a local village school where the students were polite. We played their local games like Lungdi, Kabbadi, Khokho and more. And, then is my favorite part, our campfire. We lit a campfire and were giggling and wrote reflections. Day 4- 4th October - On day 4, we visited the Mapro factory where we understood the procedure of Jam making and other delicacies of Mapro. There we enjoyed some yummy ice-cream amidst the serene nature of Mahabaleshwar. On our way back, we halted at Lonavla for lunch and it was pouring cats and dogs! It was indeed fun to run for shelter in the rains. In the damp and cold weather, we enjoyed a warm lunch. We slept our way back to Mumbai and arrived at the school at around 5pm. We all want to say can say, it was a great trip and all the hard work put in this trip was worth the efforts!!! — AMAAYA RODRIGUES, RISHABH GOYAL , UDAY KAPOOR GRADE 6A &B

MYP REFLECTION ON THE TRIP BANGALORE AND MYSORE
W e, the students of Grade 7, had gone to Bangalore and Mysore for an exciting trip for 3 nights and 4 days. There was a lot to see and much to do. This was our first time going to another state during an overnight trip, so we were all pretty enthusiastic. After our smooth flight, we first checked into our hotels. Not only did we visit a palace, but we were also provided with pretty royal accommodation, with a variety of buffets! So we kicked our day off with Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, a quaint little palace in Bengaluru. After that was Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum, à place where we got to connecting with science on a different level. With all kinds of interactive exhibits and interesting souvenirs, we ended our day with a Poster Making Competition by the tour operators. Day 2 began at the Bannerghatta Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the greatest parts of our trip, where we had fun spotting different kinds of animals. Then, we left for Mysore, and on our way, visited the Srirangapatna Palace. We had to travel throughout the Day 2 and so we were pretty happy with our quick stops at the fast food joints for lunch. We rounded it up with a disco party, at our 2nd hotel, which we could not get enough of. The 3rd day began with the Mysore Zoo. The animals looked very healthy and taken care of. It was amazing to see such a vast collection of animals together. We could all agree that seeing some of the animals were truly treasurable moments. This was followed by a trip to the majestic Mysore Palace. With its gold laced walls, and bright murals, we definitely enjoyed it even in the bustling crowds. It soon turned dark as we traveled to Brindavan Gardens, where we watched the lovely lit up fountains, and the glowing Krishnarajapuram Dam. We traveled back to the hotel, and on the way, got a quick view of the Mysore Palace, in all its glory, with 97,000 lights That we could see straight from our bus! We quickly whipped a list of songs and danced out a second disco night. One of our favorite parts of this day was the visit to the stores, where we went shopping for little souvenirs or gifts for our parents or family back home. Our last day was the sad, as we didn’t want to go home. Though one exciting part was the declaration of winners of the quizzes, we were so delighted to be accommodated in the tidiest rooms and smiling hospitable staff. The trip was fun, although I think the most interesting part was the long discussions at nights with our roommates, and the bus rides too! We also got to see our teachers in a new light, all excited and full of cheer!!!! Although the trip was pretty thrilling by itself, getting to spend time with our friends was what made it especially memorable. And we think it ended too fast. However, it was all thanks to the tour organizers, our school management and not to forget our parents who made this one more memorable trip!

A unique metal called silver
As distinct as a winner
Having the appearance like shining glitter
And 47 as the atomic number
A soft, white, lustrous transition metal with no reactivity
Exhibiting high electrical and thermal conductivity
Ductility and Malleability are some of the properties
Having solubility and density are the other qualities
Usually extracted from ores
Now worn as bangles in fours
Silver is heard about in religion and various folklores
And today you can buy it at different jewellery stores
Now we know that silver is a metal which is different

REFLECTION ON SONNET
REFLECTION: SONNET WRITING IN CHEMISTRY In Unit 1, Using Metals, in Chemistry, Grade 8 had an interesting activity. In this task, we had to choose an
element and write a sonnet on it based on the research done for that element. The element I was assigned
was Silver. Silver is a chemical element with the symbol Ag and atomic number 47. A soft white,
lustrous transition metal, it exhibits the highest electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity,
and reflectivity of any metal.
I investigated and explored about this metal. I gathered information about the physical and chemical
properties, facts and more about this element. Based on my research, I wrote this sonnet. This sonnet
summarizes the information that one needs to know about Silver. The poem has helped me present my
work creatively. This activity was an enriching experience.

MYP SOCRATIC SEMINAR
S tudents of MYP Year 3 (Grade 8) have been working in collaboration with an International school in Jordan this year on a burning environmental issue-“Water as a natural resource and its exploitation”. Students of both the schools had been researching on this meticulously since 02 months now, focusing on the Water systems, Water crisis (studying closely the crisis in INDIA & JORDAN) and water management strategies. It is a fruitful international collaboration that inculcates the international mindedness and open mindedness in our students in its truest essence. For this activity, our students were made to prepare and conduct a Socratic Seminar on 12th October2019 in the senior library where in the class was divided into three teams, Team 1: Water Systems Team 2: Water Crisis Team 3: Water Management strategies In each team there was a designated keynote speaker. All the teams performed well with their research and other information. Thus their presentations were well planned and delivered. It was indeed a tough time for the jury panel of 3 teachers Mr. James Speed, Ms. Neha Talwar and Ms. Damayanti Sen Gupta who are from different subject groups finalize the winning team. A rubric was shared with everyone prior to this activity which helped them to choose the winner finally. Team 3 who worked on water management strategies was the winner. It was a successful activity wherein students learnt from their own research and discussions. We in IB explore new ways of learning.

and explained its benefits, considering the fact that only a
few people in the audience spoke Spanish. As the
presentation proceeded, he spoke about the variety of
courses that the University of Navarra offered. These
courses include medicine, humanities, arts and primarily
business management. Thousands of students worldwide
attend this college, 30% from Navarra itself, 40% from the rest of Spain and 30% from across the globe. This
gives a lot of global perspective. Like almost all colleges, the University of Navarra also has entry requirements
and scholarships that students can apply for. The presentation ended with a video showcasing the entire
campus and the advantages of being a student of the university of Navarra.
