DESCRIPTION OF COMPONENTS HEAT EXCHANGE COIL
Coil is aluminum finned copper tube core secured by mechani-cal tube expansion. Manifolds are fitted with female connectors and air vents in the upper section of the coil.
FILTER SECTION
Made from recyclable materials, removable for easy cleaning.
USP and USPO versions:
Filter fire resistance is Class 2 (UL900). The easy to remove air filter is delivered in sealed packaging together with the fan coil. The packaging should only be opened at the time of installa-tion. The electrostatically pre-charged air filter combines nor-mal, mechanical filtration of the air passing through it with an electrostatic filtration that attracts dust and significantly im-proves performance. The filter is in fact 5 times more effective than normal filters in retaining dust particles below one micron in diameter. The filter's electrostatic charge lasts for 2 years after the protective packaging is opened. After this, the filter acts only as a normal filter. For this reason, it is important to replace the filter with a new one at these intervals. Clean the filter frequently. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove built up dust. Avoid water or detergents if possible since they greatly acceler-ate loss of the filter's electrostatic charge.
CABINET HOUSING (RAL9002)
Only in FCX US version. Made from specially treated sheet metal, for high resistance to rust and corrosion.
VERSIONS US: the upper section features a heat-molded plastic louver for air diffusion. The housing front also features a heat-molded plastic air intake grille.
FAN ASSEMBLY
Twin-suction centrifugal fans (6) with longer blade for high ca-pacity yield at low rpm. The electric motor (5) has an overload cut-out device and runs at three speeds (7 in USPO version); the permanently engaged running capacitor is directly coupled to the fans, and is positioned on vibration-damping elastic sup-ports.
MAIN FRAME
Made from adequately sized galvanized sheet steel. The rear section features holes for wall-mounting. Hanging models also feature a front cover panel over the fan assembly. All units come with condensate tray. Brackets (AMP) can also be sup-plied for ceiling installation of the unit.
CONDENSATE DRAIN
Connection for drainage of condensate produced by the cooling unit.
WATER CONNECTIONS
The unit features female connectors on the left side. The coil can be rotated as necessary.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Vertical cabinet versions (US) feature frontal air intake, and are suited for vertical wall installation.
Hanging versions (USPO) come without housing and feature rear section air intake; these versions are suited for horizontal installa-tion.
The USPO version (with multiple-speed extra-strength motor) guar-antees adequate available static pressure values for correct air de-livery in ducting applications in which pressure drop is significant.
The US & USPO versions are available with 3-row coils. Tables 1 and 2 give technical data for FCX 3-row coils. Operating limits of fan coil are shown on page 5. Tables from 6a to 6g give the sensible and total cooling capacity values at maximum speed, at various inlet water temperatures, dry bulb and wet bulb temperatures.
Performance at medium and low speeds for 3-row models can be obtained by applying the corrective coefficients shown on page 6 in Table 4.
The graphs on page 7 & 8 illustrate the heating capacity at maxi-mum speed, according to entering water temperature and various water flow rates. For lower speeds, refer to the corrective coeffi-cients given in Table 5 on page 6.
For ducted hanging versions (USPO), performance data collected as above refer to air flow values equal to those of corresponding models of other versions (US) at maximum speed (nominal flow values).
USPO series fan coils have been designed to adjust available static pressure provided by the fan to pressure drop in the ducting system by selecting the appropriate operating speed.
Table 6 on page 6 give the available air flow (cfm) at various exter-nal static pressures (pressure drop of ductwork and filters) of ma-chines fitted with multiple-speed extra-strength motors, according to air flow and fan speed (1 High to 7 Low).
The data in Table 8 on page 16 and associated graph show the pressure drop values (water side) for 3-row coils.
Tables 9 and 10 give sound power and sound pressure level of fan coils operating at different speeds. In the case of ducted hanging versions, the sound power level is expressed in accordance with air flow and available static pressure (graphs on page 17).
To size ducted hanging fan coils, proceed as follows: choose a unit size which, in nominal capacity conditions, has a capacity rating immediately above that required; using expected duct pressure drop use Table 6 on page 6 determine expected cfm and appropriate fan speed, then identify machine performance at different operating speeds. Based on the air flow values obtained, use the correction factors to calculate capacity in real air flow conditions. This proce-dure will indicate the correct unit speed setting on multiple-speed fan coil versions.

OPERATING LIMITS Maximum water inlet temperature .................176°F Maximum working pressure ...........................115 psi Ambient Room Temperature ………………….32-113°F Average minimum water temperature To prevent the formation of condensation on the exterior of the unit while the fan is operating, the average water temperature should not drop beneath the limits shown in the table below, determined by the ambient conditions. These limits refer to unit operation with fan at minimum speed. Note that condensation may form on the exterior of the unit if cold water circulates through the coil while the fan is off for prolonged periods of time, so it is advisable to fit the additional three-way valve.
