IntroductionWhat is violence?

Any physical, visual, verbal or sexual acts experienced by a victim as threat, invasion, or assault.

Results in hurting his/her or degrading his/her and /or taking away his/her ability to control contact with another individual.

Domestic ViolenceSince times immemorial, domestic violence has been an intrinsic part of the society we are living in.

The term can be described as violence against women, spouse, children or elderly.

There are various kinds of tactics adopted like physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse or deprivation, economical deprivation/ abuse, etc.

What is domestic violence

It can be described as when one adult in a relationship misuses power to control another.

It is the establishment of control and fear in a relationship through violence and other forms of abuse.

According to law Domestic Violence is a pattern of abusive behavior that occurs between family members and/or intimate partners when try to gain power and control.

Domestic Violence isn't just hitting, or fighting, or an occasional argument.  It's an abuse of power.  The abuser tortures and controls the victim by calculated threats, intimidation, and physical violence.

of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion or gender.

It can happen to couples who are married, living together or who are dating.

Domestic violence occurs in every country, in every neighborhood, among people of all races, cultures, religions, and income levels.

It is strictly a crime.

Types of D.V.Physical pushing, grabbing, slapping, kicking, hitting with

an object, use of knife or gun, acid throwing, burning.

Verbal Shouting, making threats, calling names,

humiliating remarks (gestures).Exercising control Isolating from family/ friends.

acquisition, limiting the amount of resources to use by the victim,

Victims of D.V.A person of color ... You may be afraid of being blamed for

going out of your community for help.Physically or mentally challenged or

elderly ... You may depend on your abuser to care

for you. You may not have other people to help you.

A male victim of abuse ... You may be ashamed and scared that no

one will believe you.

not break up the family. A child in a violent home ... Although the woman is usually the

primary target, violence is sometimes directed toward children

Causes of D.V.Domestic violence occurs due to the

lack of proper communication or interaction among family members.

Eventually, lack of trust, misunderstanding and result as parents fail to understand each other well.Use of alcohol and drugs what makes a person violent.

Contd..parents' failure in controlling their stress levels due to work results in domestic violence.When they get home, the children will usually be the victims of their parents' anger. mental distress persons who may behave abusively.Most domestic violence is caused by

learning and reinforcement rather than by biology or genetics.

of abusive men grew up in homes where their father or step father was an abuser.

Religious beliefs have often condoned the abuse of women. Religious scriptures from the Bible, the Torah, the Koran, and major Buddhist and Hindu writings instruct women to submit to male domination.

Again poverty and lack of education are the causes also.

Conclusion• Domestic violence is one of the severest

forms of violence against mankind.• Most of the cases of abuse go unnoticed or

unreported. • Male population is generally apathetic to

the consequences of this abuse even when many among them would not like to indulge in such a practice.

• There is no proper education of sexual relations as well as of responsibilities of adults who decide to live in a permanent relationship.
