Few people have experienced the
richness and variety of life as Don Eddy
has so passionately and vibrantly done
throughout his life. From his youth and
upbringing in Staples, Minnesota ,through
three university degrees, a stint in the
U.S. Marine Corps, to being a longtimebank president, Don has demonstrated a
strong work ethic coupled with a longing
for adventure. Don admired his father,
Stanley Eddy, who was a self-made
businessman and participated in local
government and civic groups. Don valued
education, earning bachelors, masters,
and doctoral degrees and enjoyed
teaching high school as well as college
students about industrial arts.
To say Don was unhappy about being
drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps is an
understatement. However, he was able to
stay in the U.S. and teach others,
including a Major General, about
industrial arts.
After Dons father passed, Don took over
his position of president at the StaplesState Bank. Don fostered an atmosphere
of collegiality and customer service and
his employees and customers greatly
appreciated his efforts. Don stayed at the
bank for three decades, finally retiring in
1991.
Two of Dons passions are traveling and
vehicles. Don has traveled to many places
around the country and the world,
including Tahiti, Venezuela, the UnitedKingdom, and Trinidad. Don also treasures
the memories of his flying, motorcycle
and boating days. Although he was always
exceedingly cautious, his passemgers
sometimes preferred slower speeds and
less of an adrenaline rush.
Because Don has always been a humble
man, he typically shuns the spotlight andwould not have developed a book such as
this to highlight key events in his life.
However, we believe these pictures and
descriptions are valuable not only to Don
himself, but to his many loved ones and
friends whose lives have been touched by
him throughout the years.
Dad, you have selflessly given your
resources, your time and your heart to so
many people, projects and causes
throughout the years. This book is a giftto you that you can enjoy and also share
with others.

Don's high school yearbook
(senior year) page. He looks
pretty cool in his picture, LOTS
of hair and shirtcollar that
doesn't end. Donna Greeno (later
Miller) is also on the page,
looking gorgeous and very
involved in extracurricular
activities in high school.

Don and a young starlet at the time, Rhoda Williams. She was on
the TV show "Father Knows Best." Somehow, Don's parents
knew her parents and they tried to match the two of them up. It
didn't work, but they both looked cool in these pictures.

Looks like it was Christmas time, with cookies, coffee
and decorations. Look at Sue's glasses and tie!

Once a month, the canines and
policemen of the area would

p
Lisa and Tammy thought he was a superhero. We went out to see
him on a trip and had fun. We were fascinated because he always
carried a gun on him someplace and he was known for having
young girlfriends. He seemed like quite the bachelor.

Don's champion dog,
Ace, with his handler,
Virginia Vaughn-McCoy.
She was known at the
time as being an
excellent professional
handler for German
Shepherd Dogs. This
judge looks pretty stern.
Note how she has the
lead all gathered up in
her left hand. German
Shepherd Dogs are theonly breed that is
consistently shown on a
6-foot long lead, so that
they can charge ahead
of the handler in the ring
while they show off their
special gait, the flying
trot.

My dad loved this Sea Ray boat. He loved to go
fast, especially when the water was choppy. He
got mad at me when I asked him to slow down.

Pat Miller's professional
photo. Don and Lisa. I
remember that necklace
very well. The pendant was
a penny that had a hole
drilled into it to attach to the
necklace. I then read
someplace that defacing US
money was a crime and I
was afraid to wear it again.
True story!
Don and Lisa on a Ski-Doo
snowmobile. I had a lot ofreally fond memories of
snowmobiling to places,
especially our favorite
restaurant, Bar Harbor. Bar
Harbor was on Gull Lake
(Lisa's nickname was "the
Gull Lake kid." I loved the
different lakehouses we had
out there. We would
snowmobile in to Bar Harbor.
My favorite foods there were
the cheeseburger and their au
gratin potatoes, which I
renamed "cheesy potatoes."
mmmm...very good times at
that restaurant. The
waitresses NEVER seemed to
age.
Lisa with Bear. Another of
Pat Miller's photo sessions.
Yes, those are nylons andsandals. Lisa learned to
perfect her leash-holding
technique at this time.

Don with his mother and her husband, Gordon. I loved going to Grams and Gordon's house.
They had a special pantry full of treats and candy all in jars that i could snoop through and
sample. But my favorite was my grandmother's bathroom. It was full, and i mean full, of
perfumes, powders, and makeup. Every time I went there I looked through all the perfume
bottles and tried them and the powders. She never seemed to mind. I have so many fond
memories of them. They were an adorable couple.

Don took Sue and the kids on many long road trips to
places including Florida, Colorado, Missouri and Wisconsin.
The kids often misbehaved so Don decided that family trips
would involve flying to destinations. They flew to places like
Las Vegas, Phoenix and even went on a cruise to the
Bahamas.

Don rented this backhoe probably from Koblitzka's or someone like that. Hewanted to build a pond in the boggy marsh area behind his house. He didn't
know how to operate either the hand or foot controls, but he enjoyed learning.31
