Per capire al meglio i luoghi dei miei reportage non pernotto mai nelle grandi strutture alberghiere e non viaggio mai in prima classe; scelgo di vivere nel limitedel possibile tutti i disagi del posto. Lascio spesso che il caso mi guidi liberamente. Volutamente viaggio con soldi contati per dargli il giusto valore e trovare più facilmente un equilibrio con ciò che i miei occhi vedono. Il Burkina Faso è uno fra i paesi africani più bisognosi al mondo la cui disoccupazione è pari al 60%.

La scarsità di cibo, acqua potabile e servizi sanitari sono condizionati fortemente dalla siccità di questo ambiente. Ogni volta che bevevo o mangiavo, lo facevo di nascosto per rispetto nei loro confronti, altrimenti condividevo anche un solo pacchetto di crackers mangiandone io la minima parte. L’aspettativa di vita in Burkina Faso è di circa 40 anni con un’ età media di 17anni. I bambini crescono in contesti totalmente disagiati e sono indipendenti sin da piccoli; li ho visti lavarsi i panni, lavorare, accudirsi a vicenda, avvicinarsi a gattoni al seno della mamma quando avevano appetito.
