• Dr. Francis MBUZA: he has said that he will be attending the other meeting of research at CAVM.
On Thursday July23rd,2015 OHSC/OHCEA had prepared a one day workshop gathering members of University of Rwanda one health club from different Colleges of University of Rwanda namely: College of Medicine and health sciences (CMHS), college of sciences and technology (CST), college of Agriculture and Veterinary medicine (CAVM) and college of Business and Economics (CBE).
The workshop took place which will take place at UR- Nyagatare campus with the theme: highlighting endemic pandemic threats like Ebola, Rabies and Brucellosis.

Images which present college’s representatives, alumni and staff The guest of honor was Mr. Wilson MUGABO, the Ag. Admin and HRM who was representing the coordinator/University of Rwanda- Nyagatare campus, who gives speech in the name of the Coordinator and said ‘’we are really grateful for how this workshop was prepared and we encourage you as youth to go head’’ I think this club will be a solution of many problems that we are facing here in our country, he added.

We managed to have the following presenters: Dr. Robert KIBUUKA (Focal person OHCEA/RWANDA) after welcoming the guests, he also gives presentation on ‘Introduction on endemic pandemic threats “In his presentation stated that the wildlife-livestock and human interaction…are the sources of zoonoses (disease sharing among them); he continued saying that we need to detect the disease before it get in domestic animal to be amplified then into human. This can be done through continuous survey into wild animal not wait for the disease to occur.

He also says that we have to mitigate an imbalance between wild life and human population. An increase in human population leads to decrease in wild animal habitation.

Dr. Nkuranga Charles with presentation ‘’Ebola is one of recent outbreak, in his presentation, he said: Ebola is an invisible enemy, a hemorrhagic fever disease that has a high affinity to reticulocytes and it is a biotella agent. Ebola was a serious problem in Sierra Leone due to their social behaviors like washing dead person as it is transmitted via direct contact with fluid of infected patient. In addition to that Ebola virus has no treatment unless to serum from recovered patient. He ends by giving advice saying that ‘KILLS EBOLA BEFORE IT KILLS YOU’. This means that we have to find the means of prevention before it attacks us.

Dr. Emmanuel IRIMASO presented on ‘’Rabies and the role of the club in preventing it. he stated: “I believe that club members have potential to help the communities to be aware of rabies and how to prevent its transmission”;

Dr. Benjamin NDAYAMBAJE from global health corps with presentation ‘’BRUCELLOSIS AND PUBLIC HEALTH’’, as zoonotic disease that affect animals and human. He continue explaining its cause (brucella spp), transmission (by direct contact of infected tissue like uterine fluids, with abraded skin of human, also by coitus during mating), prevention, control.and its negative impact on the affected patient (abortion and infertility,).

Mr. Adolphe from college of medicine and health sciences with presentation, Food for health and how to handle it and he continued saying that eat what is important for your health to avoid diseases.

Mr. karasanyi Geofrey the current president of UR-OHSC with History UR-OHSC from former name of Umutara polytechnic, school of nursing and midwifery one health student club to University of Rwanda one health club, he proceeds describing the vision of club, mission, objective, challenges and achievements of the club and where they get funds.
Finally the workshop was officially closed by Dr. Robert KIBUUKA, The Focal person OHCEA- RWANDA by thanking all the participants for taking their precious time and encourages them to be innovative and health promoters.
