The noria is made out of weathering steel (cor-ten) and has very modern bearings. There are some stainless steel fixtures for aligning the noria and for maintenance routines.

n 2 a modern noria was built in Zaragoza ( pain) by A. Ros of the LUPUZ universitary team, on the left river bank of the Ebro river, using contemporary materials and twenty first century techniques. But the visual design was entirely based on the Arab norias as a homage to the common heritage in the field of irrigation and the love for water in building the cities.

Professional experience: During his career he worked for the local administration where he was in charge of the department of Park and Gardens, meanwhile teaching on the subject for accredited studies as well as teaching courses for branch professionals. He was Chairman of the Spanish Association of Landscape Architects. He was, also, the Head of Landscape Architecture Department of International Expo Zaragoza 2008.

Current jobs: Professor at the School of Engineering and Architecture, University of Zaragoza and at the Master of Landscape Architecture at the CEU San Pablo School of Architecture, Madrid and at the National Institute of Public Administration. Since 2007 runs her own company: LandLab, Landscapes Laboratory and works as a consultant for different governments and institutions.

Professional experience: Starting in 1999 as a civil servant in the Regional Government of Cantabria in the Urban and Regional Planning Department. During four years, held the position of Managing Director and Chief Executive within the department. During this period, implemented innovative tools for regional, urban and landscape planning in this autonomous community.

LandLab, landscapes Laboratory: This company designs different projects promoting and developing landscape, spatial planning and urban design. Each project stems from an understanding of landscape as an ecological, social and functional infrastructure. The objective of this approach is to reach a holistic understanding of territories and to achieve an upgrading of its environmental and landscape situation; especially under the threat of the actual scarcity of resources and the effects of climate change.

Current jobs: Professor at the School of Engineering and Architecture, University of Zaragoza. Since 1989, he practices in Zaragoza in his own office, CEROUNO ARQUITECTOS SCP, and he works as a consultant for different governments and institutions.

Professional experience: Head of Projects Area at Expo Zaragoza 2008 (2004-2008), and Head of Projects Area at Expo Zaragoza Empresarial (2008-2010). From 2004-2008 Pablo de la Cal works on the project of the International Exhibition Expo Zaragoza, playing the position of Head of Project Area Expoagua Zaragoza 2008 S.A.

He has directed and coordinated the call of numerous international competitions and has directed the writing of some 70 projects (Zaha Hadid Architects - Ove Arup London, Patxi Mangado, Nieto-Sobejano, Enrique de Teresa, Alday-Jover Architects, Idom-Prointec, Intecsa- Inarsa, Agence Ter, Carlo Ratti, Batlle & Roig, and so on, that have enabled the implementation of residential buildings and the International Exhibition ExpoZaragoza2008.

From 2008 to 2010, Pablo de la Cal served as Head of Projects society Expo Zaragoza Empresarial S.A., responsible for the conversion work the International Exhibition site in a new workplace, leisure and culture.

He has designed and built more than 80 urban areas (both industrial and residential), and 800 buildings for every use.

He dominates all civil and building techniques and his works are completed on time and with strict adherence to the approved budgets.

For Expo Zaragoza 2008: He designs the Syrian waterwheel in collaboration with the Syrian authorities. He also builds some four more artistic works in collaboration with international artists.

Later he redesigns the waterwheel in cor-ten steel following own modern concepts.

He designs and builds the landscapes around his works, including civil works, water works, structures, pavements, gardening, irrigation and all the necessary infrastructures.

Specialization: He has specialized on special pieces of urban design and contemporary landmarks, including riverfront projects. He has

built many over the years.

As a sculptor, his creations are based on poetic, corporate or national concepts, and are a fusion of art and science, with a big educative potential.

Most are outstanding pieces unique internationally. He holds some world records.

Creating spaces: Thanks to the experience of the University group in remodeling river banks, new spaces of interest can be designed, adding landmarks based on local values.

Iconic areas: The true art of landscaping consists of designing for the people, promoting the sense of belonging and adding new assets for the wellbeing of the citizens.

Arabic Specialization: The artist is specialized on the Arabic Culture. His designs can highlight

the national and cultural values. They will make the spaces more visible and will be loved by the citizens because they reinforce the self identity.

The landscapes have to be a homage to the heritage and tradition and at the same time be a fussion with contemporary and modern concepts that represent the bet for a bright future.

Strong professional group: The artist works as part of a fully experienced and cohesive group of professionals from the University of Zaragoza, formed by J. Monclús, P. de la Cal, C. Avila, M. García.
