- Aliens Law -- Deportation -

Mr. K is 26 years old and was born and schooled in Berlin. K. is a

Serbian citizen, but in possession of a permanent residence permit. K.

is a drug addict. Several criminal proceedings

have been initiated against him (the judge lists the offences).

Mr. K. is being threatened with deportation to Serbia.

How long have you been taking drugs?

Since I was 17.

Judge: Did you graduate from school?

Jakov:No.

Judge:Are you still in subsitution therapy?

Jakov:Yes, with Subutex. I am currently in therapy.

Subutex keeps your head clear, unlike

methadone. I had an appointment with the employment agency. I

was interested in horticulture.

Is Mr. K. physically fit? Can he work?

I think it‘s a mistake to send him to the employment agency. I consider him

incapable of working. Drug addiction is an illness.

You have to understand. You wouldn‘t send a man with

broken arms to a construction site.

I have read your diary. Why did you decide

against inpatient treatment?

I was under the impression that

not much

had happened there recently.

Nobody cares about

integration into the job

market in the clinic either, if that‘s what

you mean.

The people there don‘t keep up and run away.

Here I have a notice that says that new crimi-nal proceedings had been initia-ted against Mr.

K. in August 2013!

The police found Subutex

in my possession.

Where were you

searched?

I‘m just interested, I

have never been searched by the police in my

life.

At Leopoldplatz, close to my doctor‘s office. I was carrying Subutex, the doctor gave it to me. The police pressed charges.

The police know who and where they have to

search.

Subutex used to be very easy to get at the

pharmacy. It looked like cough syrup and cost

almost nothing. But it‘s just as addictive as heroin. This wasn´t

discovered until later and then the medicati-on received a different

classification.

I don‘t see why

deportation isn‘t an option.

I am having a lot of trouble. I‘m tending towards not deciding the matter today. I don‘t know what

therapy in Serbia looks like, if it even exists. Or would it be “cold turkey” as in Turkey?

I think it would be sencible for you to finish your therapy here in

Germany. You will get another chance at living a content life with

friends and finding a job. We will meet again in

one year.

I will do my best to turn my life

around.

There is

one more document I would like to add to the file.

Mr. K. is from Gora. Goranians

are an ethnic minority in

Serbia and they speak Macedonian.
