1. CATTLE & CALVESDid you know that cattle outnumber Nebraskans 4 to 1 and that 1 beef
animal produces nearly 1,000 hamburgers?
5. WHEATDid you know that
an area the size of a football field of wheat
can produce 2,500 loaves of bread?
(Enough for a family of 4 for 10 years!)
2. CORN40% of corn grown is
fed to livestock but only 1% of corn harvested is sweet corn for human consumption. Corn is
found in plastics, paint, and even chewing gum.
6. MILK & DAIRYIt takes only 2 days for
milk to get from the farm to the store and
travels on average less than 100 miles.
9. DRY BEANSNebraska is #1 in
Great Northern Beans and #2 in Pinto and Light
Red Kidney Beans. We also raise Garbanzo,
Navy and Black Beans.
3. SOYBEANSThe #1 customer of
soybeans is livestock! Soybeans are also used to make crayons and
cleaning products.
7. HAYHey! It’s true that Alfalfa and grass hay are grown
in every county in the state. But it isn’t just for livestock. People eat alfalfa (sprouts) too.
10. SUGAR BEETSThere is no difference
between beet sugar and cane sugar – except
we raise Sugar Beets in Nebraska (mainly in the
panhandle).
4. HOGSNebraska generally
ranks #6 in the nation for pork production. Not only does bacon taste good it creates good jobs (11,000 of them)!
8. CHICKEN EGGSBrown eggs come from chickens with red ear lobes and white eggs
come from chickens with white ear lobes. (There is no nutritional difference
between the 2.)
