Come discover Canada with ALI’s Farmstay program – A truly Canadian Experience!

REQUIREMENTS • You must be physically able to perform farm work (this includes

being able to lift 20kg)

• No animal, wild grass or pollen allergies. You must provide medical insurance proof

• English or French at a lower intermediate level or above

• Aged 18 in Quebec and Alberta (19 for other provinces)

Cost $900 CAD Includes :• Placement

• Accommodation and meals while on the farm

• One way bus transportation (within province)

• Out of province placements :get a $50 refund for transportation subsidy

Farm work and accommodation placements in : Quebec, BC, Alberta and Ontario.

NB: Students wishing to work with horses must have previous experience, as must students wishing to work with machinery

• Minimum placement is 2 weeks; maximum placement is 4 weeks with a visitor’s visa.

• All placements are unpaid.

• You are required to work between 15 and 25 hours per

ALI – FARMSTAY PROGRAM 2015

• Vegetable / Fruit Farm : Small farms specializing in mixed vegetables or fruits. Includes orchards.

• Poultry Farm : Farms raising chickens, turkeys, and geese.

• Arts/Crafts / Artisanal Food Processing : Farms specializing in production of small craft foods or craft products like certain types of jam, or specialized lamb, or heirloom vegetables.

• Mixed Farms (animals and produce) : These are typical “family” farms that students would be used to seeing in TV and movies. They include a small collection of animals, and a medium sized patch of crops.

• Ranches : Cowboy placements, usually done on a small guest ranch. Occasionally done on larger cattle ranch-es. You must have experience with horses.

• Vineyards : Small hobby vineyards producing regional wines.

You may do a farmstay program with a Visitor’s Visa, provided the place-ment is 4 weeks or under.

Depending on what type of farm the student is placed at, their farmstay duties can include (but are not limited to):

• Gardening

• Harvesting

• Caring/Feeding for Animals

• Cleaning/Maintenance

• Household accommodation duties

Every farmstay placement experience is labour intensive and requires the student to
