ROSSEAU - The face of Rosseauchanges almost every summeras new stores open their doorsfor business. This summer is nodifferent. Among the new busi-nesses to hang out their bannersare E.T.C., Weekend Guy Store,Rosseau Village Winery, andHair Base.

E.T.C. offers tarot card read-ings and in-chair massages per-formed by Emilie Mimra, antiques from the DitchburnEstate being sold by TrishaYoung, and miniature oil paint-ings by Cheri Killingworth.

The three women decided inmid-May to open a storetogether and had E.T.C. readyfor business on June 1. E.T.C. islocated in a unique buildingacross from Rosseau LakeCollege on Highway 141, just

east of the village, and will stayopen until the end of August. When they were decidingbetween here, Gravenhurst andBurk’s Falls as the location fortheir store, they settled onRosseau because this is whereMs Young lives and it’s an elitecottage area that is expanding,Ms Mimra said.

Ms Mimra does tarot readingsbecause she feels that it isimportant for people to knowwhere they are going. MsKillingworth paints miniaturescenes and portraits, varying insize from about one inch to eightby 10 inches, because it is a nov-elty.

Ms Young is selling some ofthe antique furniture and teasets that she inherited from theDitchburn estate when hermother passed away, becauseshe wants the objects to go to ahome rather than into storage.

The Ditchburns were a foundingfamily of Rosseau, as well asworld-renowned wooden boatbuilders from the late 19th cen-tury into the mid-20th century.

The Weekend Guy Store isowned and operated by VinceGrittini, who not only creates hisWeekend Guy cartoons, but alsoheads the Weekend Guy televi-sion series and the MuskokaTheatre Project.

Mr. Grittini opened his storeon the Victoria Day weekendand will keep it open untilChristmas. It is located on thecorner of Oak Street andHighway 632.

Mr. Grittini chose the noveltyitems like the wind soc - an ani-mated wind ornament - and dis-posable bathing suits, becausethey make him laugh. There arealso products that bear theWeekend Guy insignia.

to get phone wires put in andBell said they can’t do itbecause of cost.”

Some Lorimer Lake resi-dents without a radio phonehave already paid a $200deposit on a $1,000 phoneline and many are wonder-ing when they’ll see someprogress.

“If it doesn’t go ahead, customers will definitely gettheir deposit back,” said MsMichelis, who didn’t know

when customers would heareither way.

Because of accusationsthat the Mousers were tyingup the radio phone by usingthe internet, which they saycan’t be used with a radiophone, they now have onlyhalf an hour to make a callbefore they’re cut off.

“This radio phone isabsolutely ridiculous. Halfan hour on the radio phone -it beeps, then the signal’sgone,” said Mr. Mouser. “Wepay for 911 service every

month, and can’t use itbecause the radio phonescan’t connect to it.”

This will be the first win-ter the Mousers will spendhere and they would like theadded security of having a

reliable phone in case of anemergency.

“I don’t think we’ll get it,not the way Bell operates,”Mr. Mouser said. “We’re justgetting tired of therunaround.”
