Dear readers,
Starting from January, in the Year 2014 we maintained
our promise to publish a SAMMSS Newsletter every
month. We thank our readers and F r . L u i g i P a g g i for
encouraging us to regularly supply information about
what happens at the Jusur Nam Ashram.
We are committed to try even harder in the future!
This is the 12th Newsletter of SAMMS, and we conclude
our first year of publication with the following news:
1. Arrival of six new girls.
2. Urmila, another new bride who has broken ‘tradition’ .
3. Munjuri: our first future nurse.
4. Minoti: our future civil engineer.
5. The flowers in the garden.
6. The new TV dish.
1. New girls
We try to bring some girls at this place every year. So this year four new
girls have come: three will be in class six: they are Lipika, Srabonti and
Konika Munda. The fourth Munda girl who will be in class nine is
Komola Munda.
Also two Christian girls have asked to be kept here as they are from very
poor families. They are Bengali girls coming from the Rishi people,
former Hindu outcaste group. Their names are Shompa and Ripa: let’s see
if they can adjust themselves with our Munda group!

2. Urmila
Urmila is a Munda young lady who stayed at Jisur Nam Ashram for five
years. She got married a few months ago. She was supposed to stay with
her parents in law but she could not get along with them properly. So her
husband has allowed her to come back to Jisur Nam Ashram and to
continue her college studies. Along with her college studies she will be a
teacher in a nearby Munda village and she will look after a poultry farm.
She is quite good at raising hens.
She also can sing very well and she can play harmonium.
We are very happy to have her with us again.
So we have two new brides staying with us: Urmila and Nilima: we hope
that they will not start producing babies so early otherwise we’ll have to
turn our ashram into a kindergarten!

3. Munjuri
Munjuri went to Jessore for getting nursing training three years ago. It will
take two more years to complete this course. She will be a good nurse in
the future. She stayed with us a few days during her Christmas holidays.

4. Minoti
Minoti also stayed with us a few days the last week of December. She
studies engineering in Satkhira. She wants to be an engineer. We hope she
will fulfill her dreams. Through her the tribal Munda people of the
Sunderban Forest may be able to have a nice brick built house sooner or
later.

5. The flowers in the garden
We planted many flowers in our garden some days ago. We water them
every day… let’s see how long they will last !
6. The new dish TV
Nilima who was in charge of this place during Fr. Luigi’s absence made
arrangements for a new dish TV which has replaced the old one which
was not working properly.
Now we can watch several Bangladeshi and Indian channels.
We hope this dish TV won’t disturb our studies too much…!
