Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati of Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, one of the foremost Vedantic teachers of recent times has provided his kind permission to publish his work “Ten essential verses of the Bhagavad Gītā”. Tenth of these ten verses is below.

Sannyāsa-yoga: jñāna-karma-sannyāsa1

sarvadharmānparityajya māmekaṃ śaraṇaṃ vraja | ahaṃ tvāṃ sarvapāpebhyo mokṣyayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ || 18-66||

Word by word meaning:sarva-dharmān – all karmas; parityajya – giving up; mām-ekaü – Me alone; śaraõaü vraja – take refuge; sarva-pāpebhyaþ – from all karmas; tvā – you; aham mokùyayiùyāmi – I will release; mā śucaþ - do not grieve

Meaning:Giving up all karmas, take refuge in Me alone. I will release you from all karma; do not grieve. 1 Sannyāsa, renunciation of all action by knowledge (jñāna) that the self is not the doer

Akshaya Trittiya Thursday, May 1, 2014Akshaya Trittiya is Parasurama Jayanti, where Parasurama is one of the Avatars of Maha Vishnu. The word Akshaya means growth and trittiya is the third tithi. Meenakshi Kalyanam Sunday, May 11, 2014

The union of Lord Siva with Parvati in the form of Meenak-shi took place in Madurai on the Chitra Poornima day. This union is celebrated in many of the Siva temples around the world as Meenakshi Kalyanam. Lord Vishnu, who is the broth-er of Meenakshi, gave away the bride to Lord Siva. Hence in our temple which is dedicated to Siva and Vishnu (and their fam-ilies) this festival has an added significance.

Homeless SEVA, Sandwich Program, April 13, 2014 ■ Each month, on the 2nd Saturday, volunteers make sandwiches for the homeless. Every time, roughly about 1500 sandwiches are

prepared and delivered to Martha’s Table, a DC shelter. ■ SSVT encourages all devotees especially youth to participate in the program. Please be at the Temple at 10:30 am. Devotees can

27th Sri Purandara Dasa and Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana SSVT Co-Sponsored Program with Nadatarangini

Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13thSri Siva Vishnu Temple and Nadatarangini will celebrate the 27th Sri Purandara Dasa and Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana on April 12th and April 13th. The festivities will commence at 8.00 am on Saturday, April 12th. Sri Rama puja, Pancharathna kritis, individual singing, musical presentations and concerts will be presented during the two days. Those wishing to participate in individual singing should visit www.nadatarangini.org and register before March 31st. Every effort will be made to accommodate the registrants but due to lim-ited slots, the registration will be on a first come first served basis and the organizers reserve the right to group the participants if necessary.Everyone is welcome to join in the Pancharatna Group rendition. Free Community Medical CampSri Siva Vishnu temple will be hosting a Free Community Medical Camp on Sun Apr 27, 2014 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Medical Camp is organized by SSVT, HUMVATAN, Hindu American Community Services Inc.(HACSI), Greater Washington Telugu Cultural So-ciety and Hindu American Seva Communities. On that day, Bone Marrow Drive, Obama Care enrollment assistance, Hearing tests, Body Fat Measurement, Blood Pressure Check, Blood Sugar Check, Weight Loss and Nutritional advice, Blood Cholesterol Check and Bone Densitometry will be conducted.
