WearethrilledtodeliverahugerangeofeducationprogramstoteachersandstudentsacrossSydney,NSWandbeyond.Yearonyear,ourprogramscontinuetoprovideanincreasingrangeofbetterqualityopportunitiesforpeopleofallagestoengagewiththeatreandcreativelearning.Webelieveeveryyoungpersonshouldhaveaccesstoqualityartsexperiences.That’swhyin2018we’vegotover7,000theatreseatsreservedforstudents,aswellasdigitalresources,pre-andpost-showdiscussionswithSTCcreativestoilluminatethecreativeprocessandcurriculumlinks.SmallgroupsofhighschoolstudentswillalsojoinSTCthroughWorkExperienceWeekandourYoungWharfiesprogram.Webelievecreativityandarthasaplaceatthecentreofdailylife.That’swhywe’llonceagainbeworkingwithhundredsofteachersacrossAustraliatosupportthemtousedramatounlockstudents’literacy,empathyandmotivation.Thisphilosophyhasalsodrivenourprogramexpansionintojuvenilejusticecentresandcommunityorganisations.Onanygivendayoftheweek,STCEducationstaffandTeachingArtistsareoutandaboutdeliveringprograms.Theymaybementoringagroupofprimaryteachers,leadingagroupofrefugeesastheygainconfidenceinspeakingEnglishthroughDrama,orpreparinghighschoolstudentstoencountertheatreforthefirsttime.

SchoolDramahasadualfocus.Theprimaryfocusisontheindividualteacher’sprofessionallearning.Withthisinmind,aTeachingArtistwillmodelhowtouseprocessdrama-basedstrategieswithqualitychildren’sliteraturetoimproveteachingandlearning.Thesecondaryfocusisonimprovingstudentliteracyandengagement.Together,theteacher,studentsandtheTeachingArtistexploretexts,makemeaningandgainconfidenceinliteracyskills.

MAKING A GREAT BUILDING BETTERSinceTheWharfopenedin1984,visitingSydneyTheatreCompanyhasbeenauniqueSydneyexperience.Overthattime,STChasgrown,timeshavechanged,andTheWharfisbearingdecadesofwearandtear.
In2018,wewillembarkonourWharfRenewalProjecttomakemuch-neededimprovementstotheaudiencefacilitiesandtheatre-makingspaces.ThiswillbethefirstmajorupgradeofTheWharfin33years.
TheWharfRenewalProjectwillmakethisincrediblebuildingbetter.MuchthoughtandcarehasgoneintotheplanningtoensurethatourbelovedWharfretainsitscharacter,charmandessential“wharfiness.”
