Pop-OutEssentialQuestion:Howisgenetictestingimportantforourhealthandwhohasaccesstoit?Youhaveexaminedalotofscientificevidencearoundthenaturevs.nurturedebateandfoundthatbothgeneticsandenvironmentaffectthetraitsoforganisms.Studyinganorganism’senvironmentisnotdifficult—wesimplyobserveanorganism’shabitat.However,tofigureouthowanorganism’sgeneticinformationaffectshowitlooksorbehaves,maynotbeassimple.InthisPop-Out,youwilllearnabouttheriseofgenetictesting,includingwhyitissoimportantinmodernmedicineandwhohasaccesstoit.EngagePerfectpitchisoneofthosetraitsthatweknowishereditary,ordeterminedbyagenevariationpassedonfromafamilymember.48%ofpeoplewithperfectpitchhaveacloserelativewithperfectpitch,comparedtoonly14%ofpeoplewithoutperfectpitch.Havingperfectpitchmeansyouareabletorecognize,ormakeatonewithoutanotherreference,likehearingthetoneornoteonapiano.Here’swhereitgetsinteresting!Evenifachildhasthegeneticvariation,theyneedearlymusicaltrainingbeforeagesixinordertoactuallydevelopperfectpitch.Thismeans,withoutknowingit,someofyoumayhavethegeneticvariationforperfectpitchandnotevenknowit!Withapartner,discuss:
