Objectives
• Before viewing the video students will spend time talking about European exploration.
• During the slide show students will see first hand photos as a way to make a connection to what we are talking about in class.
• Students will make connections through the photos to past information that will be important for them to remember throughout the course.
Activity # 1• This could be used as an introduction to a lesson on
European exploration.• Before getting into European exploration, a series of
pictures could be shown to students in order to get them excited about the lesson.
• After pictures are shown and a description is given with each picture, students can pick a picture to write about.
• I will have a copy of each pictures to give to students for them to write about. This will give them the opportunity to write what they can remember about the picture.
Materials Needed
• PowerPoint slides• Description of
pictures
• Copy of each picture for students
• Computer and overhead
Purpose
• The purpose of this lesson is for students to get to see first hand the differences of Europe.
• Many students are visual learners. Having a lesson such as this will help students to actually think about a picture.
• It will also give them a change to gather their thoughts and write them down.

Activity #2
• Students will be given a “passport” to visit different European countries.
• They may use internet resources to send postcards to family members discussing different things they have seen or eaten on the trip.
• These places must be historical and be related to European countries we have been exploring.
Materials
• Passports for each student
• Internet usage
• Postcards
Purpose
• The purpose of this lesson is for students to take a long inside other counties.
• By creating a passport system they can feel like the are actually visiting another country.

Activity #3
• Students will build a map of European countries.• By finding pictures online, students will cut them
into the shape of a country and place them on a map of Europe.
• They must find a picture of each country we are studying.
• The picture should not be of the outline but a picture of something that can be found in that country such as a bridge, cathedral or monument etc.
Materials
• Map of Europe enlarged
• Internet usage
• Scissors• Glue sticks• Printer
Purpose
• The purpose of this lesson is for students to be able to visualize what it looks like in each country.
• By putting a picture with a country students will have a better idea of what they are studying.

Activity #4
• Students will use a map of Europe to identify landforms that exist within the areas we have been discussing.
• Landforms that should be noted are rivers, lakes, bays, mountains, tributaries, islands, valleys and peninsulas.
Purpose
• The purpose of this activity is for students to study the geography of this region.
• By labeling a map, students will be able to identify natural barriers that might exist.
• This also shows me that students know how to read a map.
Materials
• Blank map of Europe• Colored pencils
• Physical map of Europe
Activity #5
• Students will create a brochure of a European Country.
• They will need to include:
• National flag• Number of people
who live there• Landforms and
physical features
• Neighboring countries• Something important
about this country• 3 pictures from the
country• Capital• Government type• Language
Materials
• Three fold paper• Glue Sticks• Scissors• Internet Usage• Makers• Printer
Purpose
• The purpose of this activity is to give the students an opportunity to become experts on a certain country.
• Students will have a change to leave their brochure out for everyone else in the class to see.
• It is a great way to display student achievement.
