The RCS product line offers a broad and
diverse range of speeds and available
voltages. Coupled with an extensive line of control and communication
accessories, these actuators offer both standard and unique solutions to
a host of automation requirements. Standard operation for MAR and DCR
models is part turn, reversible with unidirectional and multi-turn options
available.
Application Flexibility
All RCS electric actuators are powered by anextended duty, high-torque, reversible motor. These
motors are suitable for both on/off and modulating applications, with many
models rated for extended duty. Each motor is Class B insulated and has an
internal thermal overload protective device. This device protects the motor if a
stall condition occurs thus preventing the motor from overheating which
results in premature motor failure.
Electric Motors
All gears used in RCS actuators are
manufactured from high alloy steel. Each
gear is precision machined, then heat-treated, giving the gears exceptional
strength. Each gear assembly is designed and tested to withstand the stall
torque generated by the motor.
Precision Gearing
Each gear and spring assembly is
permanently lubricated with a highquality lubricant selected to meet a wide range of operational andenvironmental conditions. Periodic lubrication is not required.
Permanent Lubrication
With electroless nickel plated output shafts andstainless steel external bolting, RCS actuators will
stand up to a broad range of environmental conditions. Optional marineepoxy paint systems or electroless nickel plated enclosures are alsoavailable to meet most onshore or offshore conditions.
Standard Coating System: Electrostatically appliedpowder coating
Optional Coating System: Ameron 2 part, water based epoxy,Sherwin WIlliams
KEM Aqua 280 Water Reducible Enamel,
or Electroless Nickel Plating
Environmental
Mechanical position indicators are standard onevery model. These devices provide an
external position reference for the actuator or driven equipment.
Position Indication
Every actuator has a clearly marked andaccessible terminal strip to provide for quick termination of field wiring.
Simple and Easy Wiring
Integral potentiometer
Auxiliary limit switches
Interposing relays
Motor brakes
D.C. analog position transmitterwith integral power supply
D.C. analog position (loop powered)
D.C. analog position controller
Accessories
All RCS actuators can be installed andoperated in any position. This allows
flexibility for installation in confined locations or in retrofit applications.
Versatile Installation
MAR/DCR10, 50 and 90 models feature adeclutchable manual override. The actuator
gearing is disengaged from the motor thus the actuator cannot be operatedelectrically while in manual operation. MAR100 through 4000 feature amanual override with an automatic electrical safety lockout switch. Whenthe handwheel is engaged, the electrical switch isolates the motor from thesupply voltage to prevent electrical operation.

Since 1968, RCS has manufactured and sold more 1/4 turn and spring return electric actuators than any other competing actuatormanufacturer. Standard RCS actuation products provide automation solutions to valve and equipment manufacturers and to end usersin the commercial, industrial, marine, and power industries. They have been utilized in a myriad of automation solutions from simpleon/off control to heavy modulating and in many challenging, dirty and hazardous environments. Engineered solutions to unique orunusual applications are also a specialty.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
The electric rotary line is the broadest and most versatile of anyin the market. Targeted at valves (1/4 and multi-turn types) anddampers, it is uniquely suited for use in the automation of othertypes of rotating equipment. Rotary models span a torque rangeof 120 to 48,000 inch pounds. Stroke speeds for 1/4 turn valvesrange from 0.5 seconds to 3 minutes. Speeds for multi-turnactuators range from 7.5 to 30 rpm.
Electric Rotary Actuators
RCS currently manufactures spring return actuator models withspring-ending torque to 1,800 inch pounds. These actuatorsutilize torsion power springs that provide a reliable mechanicalactuation solution for emergency shutoff or shutdown situations. This approach offers an inexpensive, maintenance free, andenvironmentally friendly alternative to pneumatic, hydraulic, electrohydraulic, or battery backup systems. Clockwise andcounter-clockwise spring return options are available to drive any1/4 turn device to a fail position on loss of power. There arespeed options available on all models that allow these actuatorsto be used in simple on/off or modulating applications.
Spring Return Electric Rotary Actuators
An extensive line of electrical and electronic accessories isavailable for both product lines. These include the latest solutionsto industry demands for analog control plus communication bus
capabilities. The protocols currently supported are Profibus DP,DeviceNet, and Modbus.

The Electric Actuator Smart Controller (EASC SCC-10) card provides accurate positioning
control of electric motor actuators using an analog input signal. Setup and calibration is
greatly simplified using microprocessor based technology. There are no dip switches to set or
trim pots to adjust. Setup is quick and easy using the EASC menu viewed on an LED display.
No external meters are required, even for potentiometer setup. Once the initial menu settings
are chosen, the EASC performs a self-calibration routine, applying the menu selections
to actual actuator performance. Calibration values are then stored in permanent
non-volatile memory.
