IIMA has evolved from being India's premier management institute to a notable international school of management in just ve decades.
It all started with Dr. Vikram Sarabhai and a few spirited industrialists realising that agriculture, education, health, transportation, populationcontrol, energy and public administration were vital elements in a growing society, and that it was necessary to efciently manage theseindustries.
The result was the creation of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 1961 as an autonomous body with the active collaborationof the Government of India, Government of Gujarat and the industrial sectors. It was evident that to have a vision was not enough. Effectivegovernance and quality education were seen as critical aspects.
From the very start, the founders introduced the concept of faculty governance: all members of the faculty play an important role inadministering the diverse academic and non-academic activities of the Institute. The empowerment of the faculty has been the propelling
force behind the high quality of learning experience at IIMA.The Institute had initial collaboration with Harvard Business School. This collaboration greatly inuenced the Institute's approach to
education. Gradually, it emerged as a conuence of the best of Eastern and Western values.

Dear Recruiter,
It gives me immense pleasure and pride to introduce the Tenth batch of Armed
Forces Programme (AFP) participants who are undergoing six month residential
course in Business Management at IIM Ahmedabad. The batch is a mix of serving
and retired officers of varying experience ranging from 5 to 32 years in diverse
fields. These officers have outstanding career record in fields ranging from general
administration to highly technical control systems and operations. They bring on
board proven leadership experience, consistent track record, enviable dedication
and absolute loyalty to the organisation. I have seen them to have competence in
domains of Operation, Engineering and Automation, Administration and Human
Resource Management which have been acquired, tested and proven under
demanding conditions and challenging circumstances.
The 24 week programme at this Institute has further honed their skills from the
corporate management perspective. All the participants have been exposed to
the core areas of Management including Corporate Finance, Business Analytics,
Economics, Operations and Project Management, Marketing, Organisational
Behaviour, Human Resources and Communication. This has transformed this
treasure house of experience into a group of well endowed managers equipped
to add significant value to the organisations they will be a part of in the near
future. The experience of this Institution with AFP has been that they will be an
invaluable asset to any organisation due to their unparalleled commitment and
self motivation.
On behalf of my team, I would urge you as recruiters to collaborate with us at
IIM Ahmedabad to harness their skills and help in smooth transition to corporate
world. I wish the participants grand success in the years to come and look forward
to seeing them as active participants in nation building process.

Prof. (Dr.) Neharika VohraOrganisational Behaviour
Every year I have been teaching and getting to know a group
of Defence officers. This year as compared to all other years,
I found the officers very serious about learning skills and
concepts managers need. As usual they are disciplined and
fun-loving at the same time but they are also committed to preparing themselves for their new careers. It is no mean task to
switch careers, orientations, and mindsets but I find this group
doing it well. I hope organizations will provide them the context
to achieve their potential.
Prof. (Dr.) T. Bandyopadhyay Business Research Methods
It is a matter of immense satisfaction to see the participants
grow from anxious learners to mature data analysts with the
ability to connect statistical concepts to practical applications
for solving business problems. The skill, the ability and the
experiences of the participants to face and handle uncertain
situations as leaders of a team will help them to become leaders in
the corporate world. Their desire to acquire knowledge will enable
them to transform into top class management professionals. I
am sure their contribution to corporate sector will be stupendous
and I would like to see them at the helm of affairs in coming
years. My best wishes for them to succeed in all their future
endeavours.
What they say about Us
Prof. Dheeraj Sharma
Marketing
AFP-14 is a dynamic group. I taught marketing to the
participants. During my sessions, participants learned about
creating, delivering, and communicating superior customer
values. Participants were highly interactive which resulted in
superior outcomes in the form of novel and applicable solutions
to dilemmas presented in the cases. I believe that participants
are now well-prepared, developed and can execute apposite
marketing strategies for complex marketing situations. AFP
participants are curious, interactive and diligent. Above all, the
batch possesses the "can do" attitude. Consequently, the AFP-
14 participants are enthusiastically recommended for corporate
world.
Best regards,

Prof. (Dr.) M.R. DixitStrategic Management
The participants of AFP-14 course were provided opportunities
to take charge and lead complex organizations as a part of the
module on Strategic Management. They took charge of diverse
and complex situations ranging from managing entrepreneurial
ventures to examining the implications of innovations in large
established multinational companies. Their active involvement
in case comprehension, analysis and decision making in
these situations has enabled them to comprehend the nuances
of alternative approaches to formulation and implementation
of strategies in changing contexts. They have become adept in
sizing up strategic situations, identifying decision questions
and developing complete, concrete and consistent solutions. This
unique capability would enable them to contribute meaningfully
and strengthen the performance of the organizations they would
be a part of. It would also help them to promote entrepreneurial
ventures independently and manage them successfully. I wish
them all the best in their careers.
What they say about Us
Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra.H. DholakiaEconomic Analysis and Policy
It was a pleasure interacting with this batch of Armed Forces
Program participants. I discussed Microeconomic Analysis and
Policies in about ten sessions with them. Given their experience,
maturity, alertness and willingness to accept newer ideas
and different viewpoints, the sessions were enjoyable. I found
almost all of the participants very keen on applications of the
concepts and well aware about policies. This, in my opinion, is a
perfect group for middle to senior management positions in any
organization.
Prof. (Dr.) Meenakshi SharmaBusiness Communication
The participants of the Armed Forces Programme havedemonstrated a commitment to maximizing their learning
from the programme and specifically from the Managerial
Communication module that provided an opportunity to hone
their written communication as well as presentation skills. I
am confident that with their experience, training, and sterling
qualities, they would be assets for the organizations they joinand will distinguish themselves in their new careers.
