Alright, we finally had an event without
weather interrupting! Wahoo!!!!
Annual Banquet
Well, I was very pleased with the
banquet and participation from our
members. I believe everyone had fun, enjoyed the food and everyone had a
chance to buy or win something. The
final tally of the fundraising should be
available to view soon…I cannot wait to see the results. I want to personally
thank you all for your help at the event and leading up to the event. A very special
thanks to Tom Wheeling, Debra Krueger, Jim and Debbie Schroeder, Snow Aubel,
Cedric Gerdes, Lance Gerdes, Gina Gerdes, Joe Felish, Todd Fielitz, Mike George and
Joe Husband.
New Board
After another wonderful year of club happenings, this banquet brought us another fresh
slate of board members. I want to personally thank last year’s board members for their
selfless sacrifice and willingness to further promote the club.
I want to welcome this year’s new board members: Tommy Chapa, Pete Torres, Tom
Wheeling, Brent Jacobs and Jim Cassara. I look forward to working with you all and I
am hopeful for another exciting year for AZPDC!
April Trial & Quail Invitational
I wish I could have been there to enjoy the first event of 2010. I heard there were
plenty of outstanding performances by our club members and their dogs. I also heard there was some confusion in regards to the interpretation of the rules…I am certain we
have made that little easier to interpret now.
In closing, I want to say I miss you all and hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Ed Rucker
President

Well what can I say other than WOW what a crazy and fun weekend for our first trial of the year. The weather was great with lots of birds being found. We held the Quail
Invitational on Saturday and our normal Field Trial on Sunday. There were some really
nice moments in the Quail Invitational. There were several new members at this event
and we are all very glad to have you as a part of our family.
Quail Invitational
1st Place – Doug Burton/Dundee & Brian Smith/Slick with a score of 116 points
2nd Place – Don Puchaty/Parker & Pat Husted/Charlie with a score of 114 points
3rd Place – Jim Schroeder/Stryder & Travis Glenn/Diamond with a score of 88 points
4th Place – Jim Schroeder/High Ball & Jeff Toms/Greta with a score of 85 points
As you can see there were some close scores between 1st and 2nd as well as 3rd and
4th. Congrats to all of you who placed. I was extremely impressed with Don Puchaty
and his dog Parker who came out in the first brace and held the bar real high until late
in the day. It was also great to see Travis Glenn and his dog Diamond come out for the
first time and take a 3rd place ribbon. Great job guys!
On Sunday we held the trial and it was nothing short of an adventure for all of us
considering this was the first trial of the year since revising the rules during the off
season. I would personally like to thank every member of the team that spent many
hours of their time working on these rules. It is not easy work I know this from helping with the 2007 rule changes. We appreciate all your hard work on this. It will surly take
all of us some time to get adjusted to the new rules and to fully understand how they
will be applied. I have the placements and the notable runs for that day listed below.
Gundog Class
1st Place – Jim Cassara/Ranger
2nd Place – Pat Husted/Charlie
3rd Place – Jack Mitchell/Scooter
4th Place – Bob Bogardus Jr./Gage
I was able to witness the master piece of Jim Cassara and his dog Ranger since I was their judge. There is nothing more enjoyable than watching a dog find bird after bird
after bird. Ranger had something like six or seven finds and made quick and clean
work of them. Way to go Jim and Ranger! The bar was set real high right out of the
gate. Could be the year for the French Brittney. The other one who stuck out for me was Pat and Charlie. Pat has not been with us for almost two years due to some
personal issues he needed to take care of and boy did I miss you and your dogs Pat. It
is such a pleasure to watch you and your dogs do what you do. Keep it up and
welcome back with arms wide open.
Hunter Class
1st Place – CJ Hamilton/Jake
2nd Place – Steve Johnson/Nitro
3rd Place – Don Puchaty/Parker
4th Place – Brandee Chapa/Zach
It was a tough weekend in the Hunter class. There was only six points between the 1st place dog and the 4th place dog and all over 22 points. WOW! You guys were on fire.
Many of us said that Hunter class was going to be a battle this year. So far you all are
right on track with that. I am excited to see how this plays out for the rest of the year.
We had several new members run in this class. We are very glad to have you all. I want to see you all do very well with your dogs. Some of the notables in Hunter class
are as follows. CJ/Jake went out and put on a show. Good for you and your dog CJ.
Keep up the good work. Steve Johnson/Nitro is a new member and what a way to
introduce yourself to AZPDC Steve. I know Steve from AFTCA and he is an outstanding
asset to that organization. Not to mention he has some really nice dogs that place most every time he runs them. I look forward to see you keep stacking up the ribbons.
Don/Parker is in my opinion the story of the weekend. Not only did I get time to visit
with Don and learn what a wonderful guy he is but to also come out and place both
days is very impressive. I really hope to see you at every event because you and your dog are something special. Last but not least, Brandee what can I say other than you
go girl! You did some special things with your dog Duke last year to win Jr. Handler of
the Year and now you come back with a new dog (Zach) and place right out of the
gate. Are you going for a repeat on Jr. Handler or what? It is great to see you keep this going. There is nothing more special than to see our youth embrace the sport that we
all love and to do it with style and class. I envy you Tommy to have such a wonderful
daughter and can't wait for my daughter to hunt over our dogs.
Thanks again for everyone who came out to support our club and who had a chance to
follow your dogs around as they found bird after bird. I look forward to see everyone at
the next trial. Our next event is being help at the same location (Smith Tank) and will
be held the weekend of May 15th & 16th. Travel safe and see you all soon...
Jim Schroeder
Once again I am back as an officer of
the Club. I wanted to thank all the
members that voted for me and those who did not. I just hope that I can
measure up to your expectations. We
had a very successful banquet this
past April and I think folks had a lot of fun. We all need to thank the
members that made this a wonderful
night, as I know first hand how much
work it takes to put this program on.
We also had our first field trial of the
year that included the Quail
invitational. The QI went off without a hitch and some of the new members
did really well. As for the trial on Sunday, we got it done but we did have some issues
with our newly adopted rules. I believe that we had a variation in the interpretation of
the rules that led to many conversations that led to disagreements on scoring. Your
board and officers will be working on this issue over the next few weeks to find a solution, or at least a better understanding. Many of you long standing members know
that when we have this big of a family we are going to have differences of opinions
from time to time. With all of the good people in our club, I have no doubt that we will
move on and continue to be the best Bird Dog Club in Arizona.
In closing, I am glad to be back as your Vice President and looking forward to a great
trial season.
Thanks for all you do for AZPDC.
Sincerely,
Jim Schroeder

English Setters –
We have been breeding setters in Arizona since 1983. They have won in NSTRA, AKC, in walking and
horseback stakes in American Field. A pup from Suncanyon Setters won last year's National Amateur Prairie
Chicken Shooting Dog Championship with 58 dogs, this year he won the Runner Up title. Back to back wins
on wild birds in a major championship.
We currently have several pups five months to one year of age that have been well started on pigeons, bob
white quail and some have been on wild birds. They have been hauled to training grounds and a field trial or
two. They have also been shot around with a blank gun, they are ready for you to expose them in wild birds
this season and finish the way you want them.
