LONDON (AP) Bolton mid-fielder Fabrice Muambawas critically ill in a hospi-tal’s heart attack unit onSaturday night after col-lapsing during am FA Cupquarterfinal at Tottenham. Muamba fell face-down to
the field near the midfieldline without any playersnear him. Medics rushed onto the
field with a defibrillator andtreated the 23-year-old,pumping his chest foraround six minutes of treat-ment before he was rushedto hospital. “Fabrice Muamba has
been admitted to the heartattack center at LondonChest Hospital where he iscurrently in a critically illcondition in intensive care,”Bolton said in a statementabout three hours later. “Nofurther information will beissued at this stage. Theclub has requested the me-dia to respect his family’sprivacy at this time.” When Muamba collapsed
in the 41st minute, Boltonmanager Owen Coyleshouted from the sideline:“He’s just collapsed.” Tottenham players
William Gallas and LouisSaha along with refereeHoward Webb immediatelycalled for medical support asthe game was stopped andlive television coverageturned away from Muamba. Some distressed players
appeared to be praying andtearful as fans chantedMuamba’s name betweenperiods of complete silenceat White Hart Lane. Muamba was carried off

PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP)Retief Goosen was aboutready to give up. His lower back was in so
much pain that he decidedto withdraw next weekfrom Bay Hill so he couldget treatment. A doublebogey late in his roundknocked him nine spotsdown the leaderboard,which he figured was theend of his hopes to get in-to the Masters. One day later, every-
thing changed. Goosen ran off three
straight birdies on theback nine and closed witha tough par from the fair-way bunker on the 18thhole Saturday for a 6-un-der 65 that put him atopthe leaderboard with JimFuryk in the TransitionsChampionship. Goosen is No. 52 in the
world ranking, and he hasto be in the top 50 afternext week to avoid miss-ing Augusta National —along with St. Andrews,his favorite course — forthe first time since 1999. Or he can avoid the math
and just win the tourna-ment, which comes with anautomatic invitation. Those prospects looked
dim when he decided Fri-day to pull out of Bay Hill,and arranged for a proteininjection in Virginia onWednesday. Suddenly, thefinal round is packed withsignificance. “Maybe I’m fighting for
that last spot in Augusta,”he said. Either way, it figures to
be quite a battle. Furyk, determined to
overcome an atrociousseason in 2011, surged into
the lead with a 6-iron thatcovered the flag on thepar-3 15th hole and settled3 feet away for a birdie. Hefell back into a tie on the18th hole with a three-puttbogey up a steep ridge.That gave him a 66. Furyk and Goosen, for-
mer U.S. Open championswho have won before atInnisbrook, were at 11-un-der 202. “I made some birdies
out of the rough today,and was able to knocksome putts in and keepthe round going,” Furyksaid. “I played very pa-tient, and when I strug-gled — no putts were go-ing in — I didn’t let itbother me.” Furyk was tied for the
lead with Sang-moon Bae,the South Korean rookiewho lost in the quarterfi-nals of the Match PlayChampionship to RoryMcIlroy. Bae escaped with a par
on the par-5 14th after his3-wood found the water bymaking an 18-foot putt. Hewasn’t so fortunate on the16th, however. He droveleft into the trees to pro-tect against water run-ning down the right sideof the hole. He pitched outto the fairway into therough, flew the green andthree-putted for a triplebogey. He had at least made
birdie on the 17th, andwound up with a 68. Bae was one shot be-
hind, along with JasonDufner, who struggled to a71 and hopes is worstround is out of the way ashe tries to win for the firsttime on the PGA Tour.
