28th June 2019
A few words from Mrs Nicholson
Dear Parents,
It has been another extremely busy week here at Breaside, with our packed calendar full of events and this will
continue now until the end of term!
This week, Years 3, 4 and 5 took part in three different Musical Theatre Workshops, Aladdin, Mathilda and The Lion
King, and all had such a fantastic time. Thank you to Mrs Coop for organising all these wonderful opportunities to
allow our children to access the creative curriculum at Breaside through such an amazing experience!
Our youngest children in Kindergarten and Pre-Prep had their Sports Day yesterday, and I would like to thank
everyone who helped with the organisation and smooth running of the morning. I would also like to say a BIG well
done to all the children who took part with such enthusiasm, what a wonderful morning we all had and apologies for
only attending the Kindergarten races this year. Our Infant and Junior Sports Day is scheduled for Wednesday 10th
July 2019, Infants at 10:00am in the morning and the Juniors will be a prompt start at 1:30pm. I would encourage
parents to bring picnic blankets or lightweight garden chairs and sun cream if the weather is very hot. The children
will be under gazebos and water will be provided for them. Please can parents make sure that the children come to
school with sun cream applied and their Breaside sun hat. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.
Year Six have had a such a wonderful time this week in France and return later this afternoon, luckily the sun will still
be shining for them. It has been good to read all of the Dojo messages and I would like to thank our dedicated team of
staff who have looked after them so well - Mrs Manley, Mr Duke, Mr Evans, Mrs Wicks and Miss Clarke and wish them
all a well-deserved and very restful weekend!
Year One found out all about dinosaurs with their Fossil workshop on Thursday. Reception have had fun today all
dressed as pirates and with the addition of our Crazy Sunglasses Day, it has been a pretty full-on day all round.
Next week is another packed week with our Year 2 production on Tuesday 2nd July and I am really looking forward to
this as I can hear some very funky music going on in my office when they are practising! This will be followed at 10am
by our Breaside’s Got Talent contest for Breaside children only to share their talents on stage. We will announce the
winners next week and am sure there will be lots of preparing over the weekend for the big day!
Year 6 will be taking part in their cycling proficiency on Monday the 1st and Wednesday 3rd July and we wish them all
the best of luck as they prepare to become cyclists of the future!
Our Early Years are going to be very busy too as on Tuesday 2nd July at 3:15pm we welcome our Pre-Prep parents in
for a Transition meeting. On Thursday 4th July we welcome our new Kindergarten parents for Afternoon Tea from
2:15pm – 2:45pm and finally Reception children invite their parents to a Farewell Tea at 2:15pm on Friday 5th July. If
you are unsure about any of these events, please do contact Miss Jackson and the Early Years Team.
Friends of Breaside are having their Summer Fair on Saturday 6th July with the ‘Wild West’ theme so please come
prepared to ride the Bucking Bronco! They are still in need of lots of bottles for the Bottle Tombola and sweets for the
Sweet Stall. Please remember on Friday 5th July they would like you to bring in your cake donations, NO NUTS
please and clearly labelled for those with allergies!
We have been given some very exciting news this week, Breaside has been shortlisted for Independent Schools Best
Prep School 2019, by the Independent Schools Parent Magazine. The results will be announced in October.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and enjoy the sizzling temperatures that we are going to experience so stay safe
with lots of sun protection cream!!

Kindergarten and Pre-Prep Sports Day
Everyone had a fun day in the sun at
Sports day yesterday.
Year 1 Dinosaur and Fossil Workshop
Yesterday teachers and children alike had a brilliant time at our Year One Dinosaur and Fossil Workshop.
The hall was set up as a Jurassic jungle, with trees and dinosaurs everywhere! We loved learning about
the different dinosaurs and finding out some fascinating facts, like the chicken is the closest relative to
the T-Rex, which may have had feathers and didn’t roar! Did you know that all birds are descended from
dinosaurs! We loved learning more about fossils and looking at them. We even got to hold a real baby
dinosaur, which had been fossilised inside its egg. In the afternoon we spent some time sketching fossils,
which were millions of years old. We also got to meet Mary Anning, who told us her interesting life story
and paved the way for the future for women scientists and palaeontologists. Overall it was an exciting
day and we now have many budding fossil hunters! We wouldn’t be surprised to see all of Year One
(teachers included), at Lyme Regis, with their hammers, over the summer holiday!
