Your leader:
Dafydd Wyn Morgan organised his first walking adventures when staying
with his ‘mamgu’* in Tregaron in the 1970s. The town then was famous for
pony trekking with over a 100 pony trekkers a week arriving between May
and September. Dafydd has been organising guided walks since 1994 a(er
he returned to Tregaron to live. Dafydd has completed Mountain Leader
training and holds a valid Outdoor First Aid Cer.ficate and over the last 20
years he has organised over 150 guided walks in the Cambrian Mountains, Cardigan Bay, and
all three of Wales’ Na.onal Parks. He has also organised over 10 charity mountain challenges
and established Tregaron’s first walking club in 2003 and annual walking fes.val in 2011. Dafydd loves walking in far flung places too
and has spent .me walking in England, Scotland, Ireland, the French Alps, The Tatras Mountains in Poland, The Atlas Mountains in
Morocco, Tanzania and the Indian and Nepal Himalaya. Dafydd is a fluent Welsh speaker who has local knowledge and stories that will
make for an interes.ng walking experience. * ‘mamgu’ is the Welsh for grandmother
Where we meet:
We can meet in the Tregaron Alpine Hut, where there’s an opportunity for some coffee and cake and a chat about the intended route. Otherwise the mee.ng point will be at a mutually agreed loca.on.
The former forester’s cabin is now transformed into a welcoming mee.ng point with electricity, a wood burning stove and Wi-Fi broadband.
Informa.on about Ceredigion and the Cambrian Mountains is also freely available at the Tregaron Alpine Hut.

Incredible wilderness walk from start to
finish. Challenging in places but on a good
day, great views reward the walker’s effort.

Join Dafydd, who is a trained Mountain Bike Leader, on
his favourite route out of Tregaron.
The route will involve a cycle out of Tregaron, joining
the Ystwyth Trail along Cors Caron Na.onal Nature
Reserve for a short while and then heading east over to
the small village with a long name, Pontrhydfendigaid.
From there is an opportunity to follow a tarmaced track
up to the summit of Pen Y Bannau(352m), an Iron Age
hill fort, where the views really are spectacular (see
above). A short but spectacular free wheel back down to
the village will allow a visit to the Cistercian Abbey of
Strata Florida. Those with energy le( in the legs can
walk to the Pilgrim wood structure that looks over the
Ystrad Fflur valley below. Back to Pontrhydfendigaid,
visit a pub and return to Tregaron.
