RepsolRepsol is an international company with business operations in the hydrocarbon sector, and one of the top ten private oil
companies in the world. It is a people-oriented energy specialist, geared to creating value and ensuring a sufficient, safe
and sustainable supply. Repsol operates in four continents, using its energy to reach hundreds of millions of people.
ChemicalsAs part of a major oil company, Repsol’s Chemicals Division has a high degree of integration with the Group’s oil-refining
business. Its production capacity is in excess of six million tonnes per year and markets its products in more than 95 countries
all over the world.
In its chemicals activity, Repsol produces and markets a wide variety of products, ranging from base petrochemicals to
derivates. Base petrochemicals produces ethylene, propylene, butadiene and benzene.
Derivative chemical production includes:
Polyolefins, with both high- and low-density polyethylene (HDPE and LDPE), polypropylene (PP) and its compounds
and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and ethylene butyl acrylate (EBA) copolymers.
Intermediate Products, including propylene oxide (PO), styrene (SM), expanded polystyrene (EPS), polyether polyols
for rigid and flexible foams, CASE polyols and propylene glycols.
Synthetic rubbers, comprising hydrogenated rubbers (SEBS), thermoplastics (SBS) and solution-based styrene-
butadiene rubber (SSBR).
These chemical products are used to manufacture everyday articles which improve people’s quality of life, wellbeing
and safety.
CablesOur constant drive in becoming a leading company in the petrochemical business is reflected in the wide product range
where specialities have a relevant position.
Within our speciality products, compounds for the wire and cable industry have an outstanding status. Repsol’s position in
the cable segment has become stronger thanks to the quality of its products, its close relationship to the customers and the
benefits obtained from more than 20 years experience.
Repsol Chemicals manufactures and develops specific products for telecommunication and power cables, complying with
the particular requirements of each application. These products are manufactured with competitive technological processes:
LDPE: high pressure autoclave and tubular reactors.
HDPE: process slurry tubular reactor.
EVA copolymer: high pressure autoclave reactor.
PP: Spheripol process.
Products for power cablesRepsol Chemicals supplies products for low and medium voltage power cables.
These have been developed specifically for crosslinking process. For low voltage
cables, Repsol offers a wide product range that goes from natural and black to
stabilised and additive free for peroxide or silane crosslinking processes. For
medium voltage cables, Repsol supplies two special LDPE products for peroxide
injection or infusion, with an outstanding behaviour for crosslinking, providing the
convertors with considerable savings in peroxide. Additionally, both products
comply with the required standards of cleanliness for medium voltage cable
applications.
Products fortelecommunicationsProducts for the telecommunication industry are basically HDPE and LDPE which
contain special additives in order to assure the final quality of the cable and high
stress cracking resistance. Compounds for insulation stand out for their high
processability and their versatility, due to the different machinery options available
for their manufacturing.
Products for jacketingRepsol offers a comprehensive range of products which have been designed
according to the standards of the telecommunication cable, optic fibre and power
cables industry requirements. These products are based on LDPE, MDPE and HDPE
supplied in black and natural colouring, as well as, EVA copolymers and PP for
flame retardant compounds. All the above mentioned products have good
weathering characteristics, excellent mechanical properties and high stress cracking
resistance, with test durations in excess of 1,000 hours.
