Food Drive. The donated items will be given to the H.O.P.E Kitchen in New Rochelle. Please visit our website
www.saintjosephreligiouseducation.org for more details ------------------------------------------------------- JESUS STOCKING SUNDAY: The first-grade students in the Religious Education Program and St. Joseph’s School will be participating in Jesus Stocking Sunday on December 8 at the 9:30am mass. Their teachers will be reading them the story, Jesus’ Stocking by Patricia Crump. The story helps them understand that giving to people in need is really another way of giving to Jesus. All parishioners are invited to participate in this project. Fill a sturdy warm pair of socks with travel size items such as toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, soap, deodorant and bring to Mass. If you cannot attend the Mass, you may drop the Jesus Stocking off at the Religious Education Office on or before December 11. The stockings will be distributed by members of youth ministry to the NYC homeless during their midnight run. Thank you for your participation! ADVENT GIFT GIVING PROJECT: Each year St. Joseph Church provides Christmas gifts to needy children in local communities. As part of this tradition, each Religious Education student is asked to participate by contributing one present for a child their age and gender. We ask that they also pray for their child during Advent. Please help your child select an appropriate new toy or present for a needy child. Please return the gift unwrapped by December 4 to the Religious Education Office. Children’s Ministry: The Sunday Family Liturgy at 9:30am is looking for families to get involved. We are looking for family volunteers to bring up the offertory as well as youth lectors. Anyone in grades 3-12 are eligible to be a lector. If you are interested in volunteering, please go to www.saintjosephreligiouseducation.org and click on Children’s Family Mass Ministry to sign up or contact Bridget Lockwood at 914-337-6383.

THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
HIS WORD TODAY: A fresh perspective on the Sunday Readings - By Rev. William J. Reilly “You know how you must imitate us…we wanted to present ourselves as a model for you, so that you might imitate us. In fact, when we were with you, we instructed you that if anyone was unwilling to work, neither should that one eat.”
‘Imitation is the greatest form of flattery’ but often it can lead others astray. The lack of truthfulness in government, lies and deceit in business, use of performance enhancing drugs in sports become the norm, not the exception. ‘Everyone is doing it’ is the response, but does not make it right.
Paul’s exhortation and example called and challenged his hearers not to be so easily persuaded to laziness, a capital sin, but to labor intensely for the Lord. What he lived and taught was to remedy what he saw as contrary to a Christian life.
His words are directed to us as a model, an example to follow. Jesus is our leader, Paul our teacher, and we eagerly accept the challenge to be a model for others. Can we say that? ‘Do as I say or do as I do.’
