Dear Reader,
Welcome to , a new quarterly Newsletter from Sheorey Digital Systems (SDS)!
Much as a 'contrail' symbolizes a fascinating Aviation phenomenon, which leaves behind a
lasting sense of delight with the viewer, we expect our newsletter content to similarly
captivate you with both style & substance, long after you've stopped reading it! And by the
way, the 't' in contrail stands out to symbolize technology and reinforce our InfoTech
credentials.
As an organization, we are now over a decade and a half old in the field of Aviation
Information Technology products and poised for a very exciting future ahead - aspirations,
that will perhaps become apparent via this Newsletter every three months.
In this inaugural issue, among other things we also capture the evolution of SDS as indeed
ARMS® (Aviation Resource Management System). From humble beginnings and starting life
about the same time as India's 'Open-Sky' policy was being rolled out, to making recent
inroads into North America and Europe.
Thank you for the trust and confidence reposed in our products all these years and you have
my personal commitment towards supporting your requirements even better, as we step into
the future together.
I wish you a great start to 2017 and happy reading!

DOMESTIC MUSCLE
The Indian aviation market grew by 27.4% in March 2016, making it the fastest-
growing aviation market in the world, according to the passenger traffic data
released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). India's growth rate
was over six times more than that of the US, which clocked the second-highest
growth rate of 4.1%.
Nothing personifies these statistics better than the launch of a slew of start-ups in
the country in the recent past, such as, Air Pegasus (Bangalore), TruJet (Hyderabad),
Vistara (Delhi), Air Carnival (Coimbatore), and QuikJet Cargo (Bangalore).
All of these start-ups now have a common denominator - ARMS®!
The country is likely to become the third largest aviation
market by 2020, claimed a report prepared by KPMG and FICCI.
FLY BLUE CRANE, ZA
Paula de Sousa
Chief Information Officer
"Fly Blue Crane (FBC), commenced operations
in September 2015 and signed the Master
Services agreement with SDS for use of the
ARMS application. Although discussions
only commenced mid-June with SDS the
support and mobilisation of resources to
assist FBC to setup the system, train the
resource and implement in time for
operations was excellent.
It was visible that SDS had the implement -
ation expertise and their willingness to assist
& support wherever requi red was
commendable. ARMS® was selected due to its
rich integrated functionality that fulfilled a
number of key areas-namely, crew manage-
ment; commercial and network planning;
flight planning & dispatch; flight operations
and electronic flight bag.
In addition to these modules there are a
number of other modules that seamlessly
integrate and will be considered as the airline
grows, the integration, flow of data, reporting
capabilities and ease of use have proven to be
of great value.
Our experiences working with SDS have been
pleasurable, their continuous willingness to
go the extra mile, support and understanding
has been greatly appreciated."
®
With its integrated platform and rich
functionality, ARMS® brings in
process efficiencies and reduces
costs while assuring uncom-
promising safety and strict statutory
compliance as mandated by DGCA,
making it the absolute choice for
home-grown operators.
Having consolidated its gains in its
home market with these new
operators and combined with the
presence of legacy operators such as
Air India, SpiceJet, GoAir, Blue Dart
Aviation, Reliance Aviation , SDS
can now justifiably claim home-
market dominance - a fact that we
are incredibly proud of... because as
they say, charity begins at home!

Bull fighting is very
closely associated
with Spain and can
trace its origins back
to 711 A.D. The top
bull fighter is called the Matador. Six bulls, to be
killed by three matadors, are usually required for
one afternoon's corrida (running of bulls) and each
encounter lasts about 15 minutes.

IBERIA signs up ARMS® V2
Applications for Operations and
Crew Management
IBERIA, a member of International Airlines Group (IAG),
decided to go with ARMS® V2 (Aviation Resource
Management System) Operations and Crew Management
Software with the intent of replacing its legacy software
applications with a completely integrated state-of-the-art
application suite that reduces about ten myriad
applications in current use, to just two core applications.
ARMS® V2 – Flight Operations Sub-System (FOSS) and Crew
Management Sub-System (CMSS), along with three state-
of-the-art decision support Optimizers, will be installed to
address IBERIA'S requirements of deploying an integrated
platform, with the accompanying benefit of having these
systems reside on a unified database.
Commenting on this outcome, MD and CEO of SDS, Vivek
Sheorey said, "It is extremely gratifying for ARMS® to have
been chosen by a pre-eminent European carrier such as
IBERIA. Having come about after an exhaustive evaluation,
we are all the more pleased for the confidence that IBERIA
has expressed in the system’s capabilities. As IBERIA
successfully moves ahead with its 'Plan de Futuro' (Plan for
the Future), we firmly believe that an integrated system like
ARMS®, with its fundamental premise of bringing about
efficiency across the organization by managing disruptions
better, will provide a vital impetus to this plan."

With SDS since 2007, MM, as he likes to be called, leads the Knowledge Support Department, which owns
Content Management and provides Training support to Product teams. MM has been with SDS since it
launched in Bengaluru, having served a long and illustrious career in the Indian Air Force prior. His last
tenure saw him retire as the Command Engineering Officer from HQ Training Command in Bengaluru. An
equally illustrious educational background with an M.Tech (Industrial Engineering & Operations
Research) from IIT Kharagpur and a Masters in Military Science from University of Madras.
The crowning glory for his career was when he was awarded the prestigious Presidential honour -
' ' ("distinguished service of an exceptional order"), in January 2003.Vishishta Seva Medal
GROUP CAPTAIN MADAN MOHAN GUPTA (Retd) VSMVice President - Knowledge Support (MNE), Sheorey Digital Systems
And how's the journey been thus far? How does the rearview mirror look?
Antidote for a stressful day at work?
Amazing! Being a part of SDS and ARMS® for last nine years
has been a great 'un-learning' experience! Un-learning,
because I have had to adapt myself not only to a new work-
environment which is radically different from the rigours of
the Armed Forces but also adapt to technology and new
working style with a decidedly different perspective than
what I had been used to - therefore it's been learning all over
again and it continues!
As they say the best is yet to come! But there has been a
certain satisfaction of having nurtured a completely new
division (KSD) from scratch and providing domain expertise
to develop/ upgrade features and functionalities of our
Engineering applications, besides supporting the design &
development of the complex Heavy Maintenance, Repair &
Overhaul solution, in addition to laying new standards for
ARMS® V2 Training programmes.
High-point of your journey with SDS?
Extremely gratifying Who would have thought that after
33 years in the Air Force, I could start my career all over again
and cherish every moment of it too! Consider myself very
privileged to be working with a fantastic team of individuals
whose energy, creativity, enthusiasm and intelligence make
this organization a great workplace besides making me feel
young all over again!
.
Work is never stressful except for the commute and
Bengaluru traffic! But there is always family, friends, music
and billiards to fall back on!
33 years in the Air Force, most would like to hang up their boots and retire to the nearest Golf Course!
What made you seek out new adventures and that too in Information Technology?
