ETHERNET STORAGE CONNECTIVITYThe Brocade VDX 6720 connects to FCoE,iSCSI,andNASstorage.TheFCoEfeaturecanbeturnedonwithanadd-onsoftwarelicense.

Server and Storage Virtualization Automation SupportBrocadeVCSFabrictechnologyoffersuniquefeaturestosupportvirtualizedserverandstorageenvironments.BrocadeVM-awarenetworkautomation,forexample,providessecureconnectivityandfullvisibilitytovirtualizedserverresources withdynamiclearningandactivationof portprofiles.Bycommunicatingdirectly withVMwarevCenter,iteliminatesmanualconfigurationofportprofilesandsupportsVMmobilityacrossVCSfabricswithina data center.

DuringaVMmigration,networkswitchportsmustbedynamicallyconfiguredtoensurethattheVMtrafficexperiencesconsistentpoliciesandconfigurations(seeFigure2).TheBrocadeAutomaticMigrationofPortProfiles(AMPP)featureenablesaseamlessmigration.PortprofilesandMACaddressmappingarecreatedonanyswitchinthefabric.Thismappingprovidesthelogicalflowfortrafficfromthesourceporttothedestinationport.AsaVMmigrates,thedestination port in the fabric learns of the MACmoveandautomaticallyactivatestheportprofileconfiguration.

InadditiontoprovidingprotectionagainstVMMACspoofing,VM-awarenetworkautomationandAMPPenableorganizationstofullyalignvirtualserverandnetworkinfrastructureresources,andrealizethefullbenefitsofservervirtualization.

PROACTIVE MONITORINGBrocadeFabricWatchisaninnovativeswitchhealthmonitoringfeatureavailableon the Brocade VDX 6720. Fabric Watch monitorsthehealthofcertainswitchcomponentsand,basedonthethresholdset,declareseachcomponentasmarginalordown.
