Year 3-6 Playground Shade Structure and Prep Renovations I am very pleased to confirm that our Year 3-6 playground has been approved for upgrade with a permanent shade structure over it and possibly added play facilities for inclusive education. This was identified as a priority from parents in a P&C survey prior to last year, following our Year 4 and 5 playground having to now be dismantled due to safety. The funding for this Year 3-6 upgrade is a joint project with the Department of Education, the school and our P&C. The permanent shade structure will be a huge asset for our students playing on the oval, particular-ly in the Summer months of the year. Similarly Prep renovations for a kitchen upgrade, painting and storage and expanded closed in shelving areas has been approved and funded by the De-partment of Education. These renovations will really enhance our Prep learning areas for our youngest learners. These two projects along with the fencing along our Beckman’s Road boundary will really add to our already fantastic school facilities. Thank you to our school P&C and Department of Edu-cation for their funding of all of these projects. It is great to see after all of the planning and fundraising which families have contributed to, they will finally come to fruition.

Student Activities Term 3 With this newsletter is an attachment of all of our term 3 student activities, before, during break times and after school. Student enrolment and participation in all of these extra curricu-lar activities is a valued part of what we can offer students with specific talents or for those who just want to try something different and have fun through participation and fitness. Thanks to all staff and outside providers who offer these activities to our students. A complete term list is also available each term on our school website.

Feedback Link Thanks once again to those who are using our feedback link to offer suggestions, give feedback or compliment a staff member. It is particularly rewarding for our school to see the many posi-tive comments coming back about our school culture and vibe and those comments thanking a staff member for ‘going the extra mile’. There is still time to feed back anything here or through the QR CODE and link that included to the right with each newsletter.

Report Cards Report Cards will be sent home to all families today, Wednesday 27 June. It has been wonder-ful to read these reports and see the great progress made by many of our students. This se-mester some students who exhibit an ‘A’ equivalent behaviour rating and exemplary attend-ance will also receive a school letter as an insert into their report cards. This is in line with our Positive Behaviour for Learning acknowledgement systems and attendance policies. This se-mester also each child’s report card will have a goal for literacy and numeracy for your child to work on as their next steps in learning in these areas of the curriculum. Please feel free to dis-cuss what these goals are and how they might go about achieving them with your child. As always if you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your child’s report, please make a time to see your child’s teacher to discuss their learning progress.

Relaxing and Restful Holiday Break The end of term 2 is almost here and time for a well earned break for students, families and staff! Please take the time to refresh and rejuvenate over the holiday period with hopefully some gorgeous Noosa weather. Whatever you are doing for the holidays, please stay safe and have fun. Best wishes and we will see everyone back here on Monday 16 July ready for term 3. Sharyn Rieger

Noosaville Expects After an eleven week term, teachers and students will be taking a well-earned break. It has been a fantastic and busy term. I am particularly proud of our students for the care they have shown for their learning this semester. Our Year 3 and 4 students received some excellent feedback for their manners and behaviour during the recent Cycle Skills days. I expect them all to remember to wear their helmets and stay safe on their bikes over the holidays. Have a great break - enjoy the natural beauty of where we live, and take care of yourselves.

Noosaville Celebrates Congratulations to all the students and staff involved in the Readers’ Cup and thank you to all the families who came along to support their children in the heats and finals. It was lovely to see the excitement and engagement of all the participants. NAIDOC week takes place over the holidays (8-15 July), but we will be celebrating NAIDOC with a special assembly on Friday of week one, next term. We look forward to seeing you all back at school on Monday 16 July. As part of our Reporting and Feedback procedures, report cards were sent home on Wednesday and teachers may have requested interviews with parents to discuss progress this semester. In week 8 of Term 3, we will be conducting 3-way interviews, at which stu-dents will take the lead role. They will show parents samples of their work and explain how they are tracking towards their goal for the term, which was highlighted in their Semester One report card. Teachers will supervise and be available for informal conversations, but if parents would like to organise 1:1 meetings this will be ar-ranged for another time. I will be providing more details of the 3-way interview process next term, but from experience know that it empowers students to demonstrate care for their learning. Alasdair Scott

FACILITIES Playground Upgrade I am pleased to advise our application made last year for Smart Subsidy Scheme (SSS) funding has been approved. This is a joint P&C and school project. Funds will be made available to the school in July, 2018 and to be expended during the 2018-2019 financial year. The upgrade of the playground on the oval will consist of a permanent shade structure and rubber surfacing. I anticipate com-mencement of the project will be mid Term 3 and be completed by the end of Term 3. Prep Upgrade I am pleased to advise we have received more good news through our Regional Infrastructure Manager. Our two Prep buildings will be upgraded in Term 3. This will involve new kitchens, cupboards, internal painting and withdrawal space in the Prep block and a new kitchen and cupboards in B Block. These upgrades will enhance our learning and play areas for our staff and students at Noosaville State School and spaces we can be proud of. Facilities updates Term 2

Keeping our students safe is our priority and we would encourage all fami-lies to use our car parking bays for drop off and pick up of students. FINANCE Voluntary Contributions A very BIG ‘Thank You’ again to our families who have participated in the voluntary contribution scheme. Our school has successfully raised $2,220.00. The P&C have supported the continuation of receiving donations for our shade structures on the oval and we will continue this into Term 3. If you have yet to contribute please do so as every donation is valuable and very much appreciated.

Parent/Carer Experiencing Financial Difficulties Any families experiencing financial hardship are encouraged to con-tact myself to discuss how their financial obligations can be met throughout the school year, or to negotiate alternative arrange-ments that may be available to accommodate their individual cir-cumstances. All discussions will be held in the strictest confidence. Debtor Statements In Week 9 families received a statement of account by email advis-ing of what monies are outstanding on your school account. Pay-ment of fees must be finalised prior to the end of Term 2. If a nega-tive balance (e.g. -$20.00) appears on your statement – please do not pay – it is a credit that may be used towards future excursions/activities. If there are any discrepancies, please let me know as soon as possible. There are a number of payment options available to you, however, our preferred payment method is BPOINT, as this automatically matches your payment to the invoice and is more efficient. Please check your email regularly for BPOINT invoices as this is how the school financial system distributes invoices. The consent form is emailed prior to the invoice being sent, the consent form outlines the activity and the payment requirements. A hard copy of the consent form is always available at the front office. BPOINT – preferred payment method for all school payments An easy system for parents to pay school invoices has been intro-duced. The new payment method of BPOINT is now available as an online payment system. BPOINT can be accessed via ANY computer or smart phone. Payments accepted via MasterCard or VISA and is a secured payment method. Parents can log into: https://www.bpoint.com.au/payments/dete once you have logged in you will need the information from the school invoice to complete the BPOINT payment page. Thank you for your cooperation with on-time payments for all ex-cursions/activities. I wish everyone a safe and happy winter holidays and hope you all take time out to relax and replenish for Term 3. I look forward to working with you in support of our students for the remainder of the year. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any ques-tions or concerns regarding your child’s account. NAIDOC Week (first week of Term 3) NAIDOC (National Aborigi-nal and Islander Day Ob-servance Committee) Week is an Australian ob-servance lasting from the first Sunday in July until the following Sunday. NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aborigi-nal and Torres Strait Is-lander peoples. Under the theme “Because of her, we can!” NAIDOC Week 2018 will celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aborigi-nal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and contin-ue to make - to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation. This year NAIDOC week is from Sunday 8 July to Sunday 15 July, which happens to be our school holidays. Instead, Noosaville will be celebrating this week during the first week of Term 3, Monday 16 July to Friday 20 July. Students in our school will be given opportunities to Celebrate, Recognize and Enjoy NAIDOC Week across the curriculum with Music, Resources and Art. There will be a library display set up with resources for viewing, along with daily reading of stories from the Dreamtime, for students to be a part of, every day in the second lunch break. There will be a performance on assem-bly on the Friday, by one of our parents from the school, Sam-my Ray Jones. Thank you from Noosaville State School to Sam, in advance, for putting this together for us. Along with this, each class will be involved in painting a section of a collage, which will be put together for a school display representing the Rainbow Serpent from one of the Dreamtime stories. It will be a colourful, exciting and wonderful cultural week of events. Diane Franklin

3AW Bike Ed On Wednesday 20 June our class participated in Bike Ed. The Bike Ed teachers were Sam and Lloyd. They were handing out lots of information about riding your bike safely. First we checked our bikes were safe for riding using the A, B, C, D, E check. After that we played follow the leader on our bike, but I kept bumping into Amaya! We then went on a skill course and there were zig zags, the limbo and a stop sign. Bike Ed was really fun and educational. Nia McW—3AW

Year 4 Traditional Tales This term the year 4 students studied traditional tales. After reading and analysing many traditional tales and learning about their structure and lan-guage features the students all had a go at writing their own. Here is an example from 4FN student Mischa M. Narelle Nightingale

Exploring Robotics at Noosaville Children as young as three are learning about coding and work-ing with the school robots during the popular Noosaville State School playgroup held each Tuesday. Last week saw these young learners interacting with Dash One the Robot, with a session in the school's STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) centre. Every Tuesday, the school's Pre Prep liaison officer, Bec Smith plans a different learning experience, anything from art and craft, to story time, to gardening, to robotics, to being a rock star, to give these Pre Prep learners a taste of what school will be like for them at Noosaville. The visit to the school's STEM room had children working with STEM teacher, Erin Clarke and the school's newly acquired robots. Dash One the robot was coded to move in a variety of directions and even talk to the group as the young children moved him around the room through the use of an iPad. Mrs Clarke prepared a special les-son for the young learners who will get to experience this new technology and coding when they come to school. Erin com-mented that, 'It is so much fun to work with children of this age as they seem to have an innate ability to embrace this technol-ogy. Our STEM centre this year is going from strength to strength and it is great to see this new technology with ro-botics and coding being embraced across the school.' Young learners, William and Hugo, couldn't wait to have their turn on the iPad. 'This is so much fun', William, Lewis and Hugo all com-mented. 'We can't wait to come to school and work with Dash One next year'. Noosaville's Pre Prep program takes place eve-ry Tuesday from 9.40-10.40am and children can join in after-wards with the school's Prep students during the morning break time. Enquiries for places in the Pre Prep program can be made through Bec Smith on 54403222.
