New computer technology. Fifth-genera-tion computer systems, their successors, and super computers are examined in anew journal. A free copy ofFuture Gener-ations ComputerSystems is available fromNorth-Holland, Attn: Karin van Schouten,PO Box 1991, 1000 BZ Amsterdam, TheNetherlands.

Business software directory. More than2700 software packages in 119 specific ap-plication areas are profiled in Micro Soft-ware Business. The catalog is available for$19.95, from Chilton Book Company,Radnor, PA 19089; (800) 345-1214.

Engineering conference literature. Engi-neering Conference Index is the new six-volume print version of an online data-base. The complete set is available for $695(individual volumes are $155) from Engi-neering Information, Inc., Sales Dept.,345 East 47 St., New York, NY 10017;(800) 221-1044.

Fortran pocket guide. The 10-page For-tran 77 Reference card illustrates state-ment order and summarizes the syntax ofspecification and executable statements. Itis available for $2.50 from SpecializedSystems Consultants, PO Box 7, North-gate Station, Seattle, WA 98125-0007;(206) 367-8649.

Computer-integrated manufacturing. Anew publication examines computer-inte-grated manufacturing from the executive'spoint of view, focusing on such areas asimplementation, organizational strategy, database integration, and quality assur-ance. A one-year subscription to CIMReview (12 issues) is available from Auer-bach Publishers, 6560 North Park Drive,Pennsauken, NJ 08109; (800) 257-8162.

Computer education curriculum. De-signed to meet the needs of high schoolstudents, the DPMA Secondary Cur-riculum on Information Technology andComputer Information Systems outlinesand recommends a series of "core"courses that focus on computer applica-tions. To obtain a copy, contact the DataProcessing Management Association,Attn: Hildegard Klemm, Manager ofEducational Services, 505 Busse Highway,Park Ridge, IL 60068-3191; (312) 825-8124.

Pricing reference guide. The Brown Booklists more than 600 microcomputer prod-ucts and their actual market value as usedequipment. Copies are available from TheBrown Book, Inc., PO Box 3490, SantaBarbara, CA 93130; (805) 687-1140.

Raster Technologies, Inc., recently an-nounced a new 3D graphics system thatprovides a complete and integrated ren-dering pipeline for use by the OEM orsystem integrator. The Model One/380 is an upward, fully

compatible extension of Raster's ModelOne product line and is enhanced with a32-bit floating point co-processor and anenriched command set. This permits in-teractive definition, transformation, anddisplay of shaded hidden surface removedgraphics images.Key rendering functions are combined

in the integrated, high-resolution, 60-Hzrefresh system. Capabilities include dis-play list, transformations, lighting modelsand shading and hidden surface operations. The Model One/380 contains up to 40

bits ofmemory-24 bits of image memoryand 16 bits of Z-buffer-for rapid userresponse times and superior image quality.Up to four megabytes of display list mem-ory can be added to the system. With 60Hz of non-interlaced refresh, the ModelOne/380 is available in configurations up

to 1280 by 1024 by 24 bits of image mem-ory for flicker-free high resolution.

The system also includes local hiddensurface removal and full-color smoothshading performed with custom gate arrayassist to produce speeds of 1-3 usec/pixel.Modal switches determine whether poly-gons will be displayed with up to eightdirectional user-controlled light sourcesusing wireframe, flat or smooth shading.Translucency and dithering are standardwith the shading features.

Designed for flexibility and efficiency, the system also has built-in capabilities formanipulating objects as 3D entities withminimal host load. The Model One/380 isavailable in a deskside tower enclosurewith a complete system including a19-inch, 60-Hz monitor, a keyboard, datatablet, and mouse, priced at $41,500.Contact: Raster Technologies, Inc., 9 Ex-ecutive Park Drive, North Billerica, MA01862; (617) 667-8900.
