Raster Technologies, Inc., recently an-nounced a new 3D graphics system thatprovides a complete and integrated ren-dering pipeline for use by the OEM orsystem integrator.The Model One/380 is an upward, fully

compatible extension of Raster's ModelOne product line and is enhanced with a32-bit floating point co-processor and anenriched command set. This permits in-teractive definition, transformation, anddisplay of shaded hidden surface removedgraphics images.Key rendering functions are combined

in the integrated, high-resolution, 60-Hzrefresh system. Capabilities include dis-play list, transformations, lighting modelsand shading and hidden surface operations.The Model One/380 contains up to 40

bits ofmemory-24 bits of image memoryand 16 bits of Z-buffer-for rapid userresponse times and superior image quality.Up to four megabytes of display list mem-ory can be added to the system. With 60Hz of non-interlaced refresh, the ModelOne/380 is available in configurations up

to 1280 by 1024 by 24 bits of image mem-ory for flicker-free high resolution.

The system also includes local hiddensurface removal and full-color smoothshading performed with custom gate arrayassist to produce speeds of 1-3 usec/pixel.Modal switches determine whether poly-gons will be displayed with up to eightdirectional user-controlled light sourcesusing wireframe, flat or smooth shading.Translucency and dithering are standardwith the shading features.

Designed for flexibility and efficiency,the system also has built-in capabilities formanipulating objects as 3D entities withminimal host load.
