Key rendering functions are combined in the integrated, high-resolution, 60-Hz refresh system. The Model One/380 contains up to 40 bits of memory-24 bits of image memory and 16 bits of Z-buffer-for rapid user response times and superior image quality. Up to four megabytes of display list mem- ory can be added to the system. With 60 Hz of non-interlaced refresh, the Model One/380 is available in configurations up to 1280 by 1024 by 24 bits of image mem- ory for flicker-free high resolution. The system also includes local hidden surface removal and full-color smooth shading performed with custom gate array assist to produce speeds of 1-3 usec/pixel. Modal switches determine whether poly- gons will be displayed with up to eight directional user-controlled light sources using wireframe, flat or smooth shading. Translucency and dithering are standard with the shading features. Designed for flexibility and efficiency, the system also has built-in capabilities for manipulating objects as 3D entities with minimal host load.
