THE

Message from the Commodore❱ ❱ ❱

The start of a new year for NSA is always exciting, especially this year since it is the 50th year of existence for our beautiful sailing Club. I am honored to have been elected as Commodore again and will work diligently to try and make 2015 an outstanding year. That will be made easier with the help from an outstand-ing Board of Governors. I would like to welcome Bruce Rowe (Secretary), Dale Gronniger (Yardmaster) and Andy Woodward (Commodore Elect) to the Board, and thank Jaime Kissinger for serving another year as Vice Commodore. Many thanks goes out to outgoing Board Members David Parish, Rick Stump and Bob Born all of their hard work over the years. Also a Huge Thank You to Past Commodore Paul Faber for his outstanding leadership in 2014.

I would like to congratulate all of the various Award winners announced at the Annual Meeting for 2014, especially Doug Veith who was named Worker of the Year not only for all of his hard work this past year but in previous years also. A couple of notable recent projects that Doug has invested many hours of his time and expertise in are 1) The New Crane Foundation Wall 2) New D Dock Walkway. Thanks also to all of the other members of our Club for their tireless efforts in continuing to make our facility one of the best in the Midwest.

I want to mention three of my priorities for the upcoming year at NSA. 1) Starting up NSA’s Learn to Sail adult sailing education classes headed up

by Kent Carter and Jaime Kissinger. This is a very exciting opportunity for NSA to both promote the sport of sailing and our Facility. Hopefully we can promote this program to the general public as well as offering it to our own members for their continued sailing education. I am hoping to have a committee in place and begin meetings in January. If you are interested in helping with this Committee please contact me.

3) NSA 50th Anniversary Celebration. It is an outstanding accomplishment to have made this milestone anniversary with the Club is as strong as ever. So we will find various ways to celebrate this in the upcoming year. More details will be coming out soon on upcoming events.

Have a safe and happy holiday season. Hopefully we will all acquire some new gadgets or needed parts for our boats over the holidays as the new Sailing Season is just around the corner

NEW SAILING PROGRAMS

A new Learn to Sail Program is coming to the NSA starting in June, 2015!

The Board of Governors announced at the annual meeting that the NSA is launching a new adult sailing education pro-gram, with three classes tentatively scheduled as follows: Class #1 - June 23, 27, 28; Class #2 - July 21, 25, 26; and Class #3 – August 11, 15, 16. The goals of the program are to: (1) Generate interest in sailing and teach sound fundamental sailing skills in both small boats and keel boats, (2) Provide small craft safety education and promote safety in all aspects of sailing, and (3) Promote the desirability and benefits of NSA membership.

The new sailing class will include an introductory 3-hour classroom session to be held in Wichita on a week night prior to the sailing weekend. Students will then learn to sail on Sunfish from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm the following Saturday. On Sunday, the students will receive an entire day of hands-on keel boat training while sailing with experienced NSA keel boat owners and their crews. Both days of sailing will also be punctuated with several brief periods of onshore demonstrations and classroom work.

We hope this new class will appeal to current NSA mem-bers who would like to gain more experience on small boats and those who would like to learn new skills or increase their current skill level in sailing a keel boat. The course will also be marketed to folks new to sailing and who are looking for a permanent sailing home. Small boat students will sail with an instructor to quickly develop skills and improve proficiency in a Sunfish. While on a keel boat, students will gain experience both as crew and helmsman while learning all the basic operations of a larger boat from the keel boat owner/instructor and crew.

The club is now looking for NSA members who are inter-ested in becoming small boat or keel boat instructors in this program. We currently have five small boat instructors and are looking for at least five more. All small boat instructors will par-ticipate in a 4-day, 40 hour training class conducted by the US Sailing Association at Cheney in mid-June. Those completing the training will be certified as a Small Boat Instructor – Level 1 by the USSA. Most costs of the training are to be paid for by the NSA. The club is also asking that those instructors, in turn,

make a 2-year commitment to teaching in the program. We are also seeking keel boat owners and crews wanting to become part of this new educational effort. Those interested in volunteering boats and crews will also receive instructional guidelines and will participate in a coordination meeting with all instructors prior to the kick-off of the program.

Our new program is truly a great opportunity for NSA members to share your knowledge and expertise with newer and prospective members. In keeping with the commitment to our mission statement, we feel this learn to sail program will, indeed, promote interest in sailing and safety awareness in our sport. And it will certainly provide a wonderful showcase for our club facilities, while building appeal to attract new members in the future.

If you are interested in becoming a small boat or keel boat instructor and would enjoy sailing with some new folks this summer in our adult sailing education program, please contact Commodore Gregg Greenwood, Vice-Commodore Jaime Kiss-inger, or me (email: [email protected] and mobile number 316-655-4993). I wish to invite all interested members to become part of this exciting new effort as the NSA steps into the next era of training new sailors and developing new mem-bers for our club! Be sure to read future issues of The Mainsheet when more details about the program will be released.

NSA lost a very special sailor. Leslie Beyer lost her battle with breast cancer last Monday November 24th, at the age of 33, six days before her 34th birthday. She is survived by her Hus-band Mike and their 4 year old daughter Bella. Leslie was the daughter-in-law of Rich Beyer (D dock, Crimson and Blue). She will be missed by all of her NSA friends.

The sound of waves that calm the soul is my song to help you sleep. Then the wind I'll send to fill your sail will be my gift for you to keep.

In Memory of Leslie Beyer

The NSA yearbook is adding a business line description The NSA has added a business line description to yearbook entries. If you would like to empha-size your business or service, we can print an additional line under your contact information in the yearbook. Let Allen Johnson know if you would like to add it to your yearbook contact information. See the 2014 yearbook under Paul Faber and Ron Jackson for examples.

NSA Annual Invoices were mailed out Friday, December 5, 2014.

If you have not received your invoice, contact Allen Johnson.First half payment is due January 1.

Contact Allen too if you want to change your mem-bership, slip or yard space status. If you have changed or dropped your home phone number within the last year or so, please check the member information form enclosed with your renewal invoice and please let us know your new

After gaining approval from KDWPT officials, the Board voted that new Jetty is also going to be named after an NYC Member. The member chosen was NSAs most influential person in making the Jetty and Outer Harbor Project happen and, has worked tirelessly and relentlessly over the last 30 years to make it happen. He made the contacts and attended many, many meetings over the years that eventually made this happen. The new Jetty, going out from the Shelterhouse, will be referred to as Andy’s Jetty. Andy was presented a replica of the markers that will be placed on the Jetty.

David Parrish presented the Long Range Planning Committee Report Pro Forma financials.

Steve Hieger, a member of the Kansas Water Office – Reser-voir Advisory Committee and the Wichita Metro Chamber Water Leadership Task force, provided on overview on the committee’s activities as they relate to Cheney Reservoir.

NSA Adult Sailing Program: Kent CarterAs most of you know, after 35 consecutive years of provid-

ing sailing instruction at Cheney Reservoir, the American Red Cross Midway-Kansas Chapter (ARC) Learn to Sail program officially ended late in 2014. The Adult Learn to Sail Course was developed in conjunction with the U.S. Sailing Associa-tion. Kent Carter and many other volunteer sailing instructors have held classes at NSA for the last 20 years and with the ARC sail program closed there is now a void in teaching adults to sail. Following is an outline of the plan, intent, format, needs and benefits of the new NSA Adult Sailing Program.

Property Managers Report: Patrick AdamsAs always, and perhaps better than ever, Patrick presented

quite an amusing synopsis of this past year. Without question the best moment was Patrick parading a poster size picture (they say a picture is worth a thousand words) that made it all to clear how time takes its toll on ALL equipment and people. This is one of those moments that timing, execution, and content all came together and unfortunately, words cannot express it-- you would have to have been there. Patrick expressed that these are

exciting times and we have outstanding leadership and experi-ence on the board to move us forward. Patrick finished with, “Thanks to each Board Member for your service to the club and your support for me personally. I appreciate the opportunity and I hope I can continue for, I believe, my 26th season.”

Board of Governors written reports are in addendum B fol-lowing the minutes.

AWARDS: Awards and trophies were presented for the out-standing character, leadership, and sportsmanship to several outstanding NSA sailors.

Sportsman of the year: Tom Olsen (presented by vice com-modore Jaime Kissinger)Worker of the Year: Doug Veith (presented by past commo-dore David Parrish) Picture of the year: Dakota HarmsSkipper of the year: No Award Given

JUNIOR SAILING TROPHY WINNERS AWARDED BY TEXIE RANDLE:Sportsperson of the Year: Evan Evans

Evan was a true trooper this summer. Despite having his own Hobie 14 and really wanting to sail it he was happy to help with the new sailors, sailing with them on their boats as they became familiar with the mechanics of sailing, working with them until they gained enough mastery to sail solo. His en-couragement and cheerful attitude helped make even the hard work of clean-up fun! And yes, he did get to sail his Hobie! He enjoys racing and traveled to at least one regatta this summer, and has traveled to regattas other summers as well. Most Improved: Delaney Shaw

Delaney attended her first sailing camp this summer, but was unable to attend the second camp. She did so well that we encouraged her to compete in the CSSA Jr. Championship Regatta as a Green competitor. She knocked everyone’s sock off as she did a fantastic job following the course and needing very little coach support on the water during the regatta! Skipper of the Year: Jaiden Cape

Jaiden skippered the Club 420 with Amber Hempe during both camps this summer. She also was content to give up some of her own camp sailing to assist with teaching the new Sunfish sailors during the first camp. She was a great help and example to the other Jr. Sailors this summer.Jr. Sailor of the Year: Sophia Randle

Sophia has spent many summers sailing with her family and in recent years has become an able and adept sailor of her own Optimist, sailing for fun and competing in regattas. This summer she had the chance to be a leader of new Opti sailors, helping them check their rigging, giving helpful tips while out on the water and showing them where things go at the end of the day. Future Coach in the making!

Jr. Sailor Worker of the Year: Tom Brown

Page 9: 1214 mainsheet

Ninnescah Sailing Association • December 2014 ninnescah.org9

NSA Annual Meeting Minutes – November 9, 2014- continued

Tom, or Mr. Brown to the Campers, was a huge help this summer. Whether Texie asked him to help with boat repair and maintenance, make parts runs into town, or I asked him to keep an eye on kids from shore, be in the water with an Opti on a tether while helping a new sailor figure out the finer points of tacking and jibing, he was always just as happy as could be to say YES! As a bonus, he also brought his delightful granddaughters to camp with him!

It’s a lot of work but the outcome is great with bringing chil-dren in to learn the fun of sailing. They are our future!!! Thank you NSA for all of your support to make Jr. Sailing a success!!!!

Presentations: -Commodore Faber presented plaques to outgoing board members David Parrish, Bob Born, and Rick Stump. Paul also expressed his appreciation to the membership for putting their trust in him and electing him to serve as Commodore this last year. He noted that he kept his promise to the membership to have the exterior of the Afterdeck resealed. The resealing, which is a protectant from the elements, has been deferred for the past three years and was overdue to be completed.

-Paul made a special presentation on behalf of the Board of Governors and the membership recognizing Patrick Adams for his twenty-five years of employment and service to the club, and presented to Patrick a sculpture made by Babs Mellor

BOG Vote by the Membership-The slate for the 2015 Board of Governors Nominations

(Addendum A) was presented to the membership. A motion was made to accept the nominations as presented and was seconded. The motion was passed by the membership (Gary Cheatum/Rob Fresh).

-After the vote, Paul Faber presented new Commodore Gregg Greenwood with the Commodore’s Burgee.

-Gregg Greenwood presented outgoing Commodore Paul Faber with a NSA jacket

Commodore’s Comments - Gregg Greenwood2014 was a very good year for Cheney Reservoir and NSA.

The Lake was above Conservation Pool Level all year until late August. Most members took advantage of this and got their boats in the water with many days of beautiful sailing through-out the year. The water level is still higher than most years at this time, which should rise over the winter, and we can count on starting 2015 with plenty of water depth.

Our membership has rebounded some over the year after several years of drought. One of the items I would like to concentrate on in 2015 is the recruitment of new members. As we all know NSA is the finest sailing facility in the region so we must get the word out to existing sailors and potential new sailors in the area. We can all help in this effort, and if you do not know, you can earn $100.00 from NSA if you bring a new member in to the Association. You may want to consider, as some have in the past, to donate the $100.00 to the new mem-ber to offset their Initiation Fee realizing the potential benefit to NSA for each new member.

NSA will also be offering Adult Sailing Classes for existing members and the public (potential new members) beginning in 2015. Kent Carter working with Vice Commodore Jaime

Kissinger will head this effort up. Kent has been the head of the Red Cross Adult Learn to Sail Program for the last 35 years. Since that program has been unfortunately discontinued, we see a very real opportunity to pick up where they left off and provide a service to the Members as well as to the public.

The most exciting project that has happened for years at NSA is the new jetties at NSA creating a new outer harbor. This new harbor offers a great opportunity for NSA to move D Slip into that harbor and to move E Slip to D Slip’s current lo-cation insuring better water depth for more slips and allowing us to add additional slips in the future. We owe thanks to the KDWPT Staff primarily Keith Sexson, Linda Lanterman, and Ryan Stucky for making this happen.

Andy Woodward and numerous other NSA members for many years have worked to coordinate making this project possible. In 2015, we will be working to determine the best placement for D Dock in this area as well as coordinating the move with existing slip holders on D Dock and those that would want to move out to D Dock from other Docks. As we go through this process, we will be asking members for input throughout the year, with the goal of having D Dock moved to the outer harbor in time for the 2016 Sailing Season with minimal disruption to the 2015 season.

One of the Commodore Elect’s responsibilities is to moni-tor the Property Manager’s activities throughout the year. It is truly an eye opening experience to see what all Patrick does for this Association. I would like to thank Patrick for the many hours of hard work and his commitment to taking care of the facility and members.

The 2015 sailing year will be very exciting but probably the most fun will be celebrating our 50th Year as of existence since NYC was Chartered in 1965. We are working on several special events throughout the year to celebrate this achievement. I hope that many former members can come back and help us celebrate throughout the year. Andy and I are forming a com-mittee to come up with the plans for this celebration. There-fore, if you have any ideas to help make 2015 special please let Andy or I know what you think.

Let’s make 2015 special and enjoy another fabulous year of Sailing at NSA on our beautiful lake.

Motion to adjourn 3:30 P.M. (Gary Cheatum/Bob Born)

NSA Annual Meeting Minutes – November 9, 2014- continuedYards and Landscape 2014 summaryYards:

Jack Kramer and Dale Gronniger reconfigured some East Boatyard spaces to add 12’ wide spots, and eliminate some 15’ spaces, which were not in demand.

We replaced some old yard space signposts with new, and changed out many old number placards.

We appreciate the members keeping their spaces mowed nicely this year for fire safety and appearance—our Contract Maintenance Mowing program is more popular than ever, it gives our members more Lake Time on their tillers instead of behind a lawn mower.Grounds and Landscape:

Our Landscape crew helped get our facility looking good after the drought/flood. Sharon and Dave Goodwin, with Rob and Nancy Fresh again did a wonderful job with the flower beds at the Bathhouse, Afterdeck, and slip picnic areas. Larry and Deanna Schneidewind worked hard as always keeping the foliage looking good at the Afterdeck.

Landscape Chairman Scott Fry and crew rebuilt the planter boxes and retaining wall at the Clampett Playground.

Some trees killed by the drought were removed. The Park Staff were most valuable in this effort. Many more trees need to be taken care of in our area.

All members are thanked for their efforts in keeping NSA’s ten acres looking good.

Yardmaster – AbsentHarbormaster – No Report2014 Operations Annual Report - Norm Dodson

There are many people that are owed a huge debt of thanks for helping in Operations this year. Along with the return of the water, came new members and returning old members. This brought along an increase in participation in our club, both on the water and on the dock.Website and Mainsheet – Sheryl Born

Sheryl Born took over publication of the Mainsheet in 2013 and continued putting out the finest newsletter anywhere in 2014. Every issue has been a pleasure to read. In addition to the Mainsheet, Sheryl also maintains our website which is one of the most professional looking websites in the region. Many of the announcements that go out for the events and special communi-cations are designed by Sheryl as well. Sheryl has been invalu-able to me in her efforts, and I can’t thank her enough. NSA Calendar - We put out a calendar again in 2014 and these were made available for purchase. Sheryl was responsible for putting this together, and Scott Fry handled distribution and collection of funds for the project. The calendars are an incredible asset to NSA as they provide a twelve-month adver-tisement of our club on the walls of businesses and offices all across Wichita and surrounding communities. I encourage you to purchase one or two copies, as they bring enjoyment to you and are a worthwhile project as a marketing aid for promoting the club. The 2015 calendars are currently available for sale. Thanks to Sheryl Born and Scott Fry for their efforts. Rapid Communication Hub (RCH) – Frank Hopper

I would also like to thank Frank Hopper for his work on the Rapid Communication Hub. This has become a very effective tool for communicating events and issues to the member-ship very quickly. Frank took over responsibility in 2014, and

despite a severe injury to his leg while launching a boat at the club, he continued to keep the announcements flowing. Yearbook – Stan Chase, Editor

Stan Chase continues to put out a very high quality yearbook for the club year after year and sees that it is distributed. It is an invaluable tool to me for reaching out to people and I owe Stan a debt of gratitude for taking on this project year after year.Merchandise – Norm Dodson, Chairman

In 2014 it was decided to begin stocking a limited amount of merchandise for members to purchase. We now have koozies, coffee mugs, and tumblers with the NSA logo available for purchase in the Afterdeck. These were purchased from US Logo on West Street in Wichita. They have our logos and can embroidery these on a variety of apparel and accessories. Feel free to stop in and check at their brick and mortar store, or look on line at www.uslogo.net .Facebook – Bob Born

Thanks to Bob Born for getting the NSA on Facebook and keeping the content up and going. We had 69 likes our first month and are up to 108 as of this writing. Liking the NSA Face-book page is a great way to receive announcements of upcoming events and see pictures of what is going on. To become a fol-lower click on the Facebook logo on our NSA website homepage or any recent edition of the Mainsheet and then once you get to the NSA page make sure you LIKE us and rate us a 5-star.Social

With the return of the water came an increase in attendance at the social events. I would like to give a big thanks to all the event hosts that coordinated the events throughout the year to help keep this club coming together to enjoy each other’s company.

Thanks to Brad and Patti Sweet for hosting our Memorial Day Picnic this year to kick off the social season. The members enjoyed the traditional hamburgers and hot dogs and provided a table of delicious sides themselves.

The Blessing of the Fleet and Summer Sailstice were wel-comed events this year. For the first time in two years the boats were blessed IN the water. Thanks to Ray Keller and Larry Greenwood for their continued efforts for conducting the ceremonies in keeping with this time honored tradition. A big thank you to Gregg and Cindy Greenwood for putting this together and providing snacks and refreshments for the members. Also

Andy Woodward coordinated the Progressive Dinner for the third year in a row. This year saw a return of this beloved event to the docks where it was intended to be. This year was a South of the Border Theme. Andy always makes these events memo-rable and this year was no different. A big thank you to Andy for his efforts.

The July 4th picnic was hosted by Roger and Joan Gibson. Roger and Joan are seasoned hands at putting these events together and this year was no exception. There was an excellent turnout and a good time was had by all. Thanks Roger and Joan.

Thanks to Pat and Heather Coulter and Dave Parrish for handling the Labor Day Dinner and Celebration again for the 3 year in a row. This is our grand finale of the year with the ini-tiation of the new members, the summoning of King Neptune, and big fireworks display at the end. This year was especially nice since we actually have new members to welcome into the club! Everything went extremely well and the event was very well attended.

NSA Annual Meeting Minutes – November 9, 2014- continued

We wound up the social season, as always, with the Shrimp Boil & Allen Johnson’s annual 50th Birthday Party. This year it was held on the lawn of the Afterdeck which adds to the enjoy-ment. The Goons have never failed to provide entertainment and this year was no exception. Thumper and Allen Johnson and Mary Kearbey have this event down to a science and have made it one of the favorite events of the year.

I would also like to thank Patrick Adams for being there to assist in preparing for every event. He is always there to assist with getting the air on early or set picnic tables if needed or anything you ask him to do. His service to this club continues to be invaluable in so many areas.

Lastly, I would like to thank you, the membership for all your efforts in attending these events as well as helping with the clean up afterwards. I am truly amazed at the amount of pride and ownership that this club has for the property. After every event the tables and chairs are put up, the trash is taken out, and the kitchen is cleaned in record time because so many pitch in and help.

Vice Commodore - Jaime KissingerThis year in the important role of Vice Commodore my

largest obstacle was getting volunteers. This is a large club and getting volunteers shouldn’t be this hard to find. Yes, maybe with no water for several years contributed to the lower participation at the club. But the renovation of the committee boat showed once again that there are people who still find this club exciting. It was incredible to see the club member’s rally together donating money towards the renovation and having a great time.

Special thanks goes to Frank Couch, Patrick Adams, Gary Shepard, Rich Shull, Jack Kramer, and Allyn Lamb who donated their time and talents in renovating the committee boat it looks brand new again. The club boats continue to be a challenge but are slated to be one of our large projects for next year. The first one is the Lund we haven’t sold it but blew up the engine….go figure….but; we have another opportunity and will get this sold. On a more positive note we did pick up a 13 ft. Boston Whaler for next to nothing but needing a motor see what I’m saying don’t they all. In addition, the Red Cross donated an 18 ft. Boston Whaler in almost perfect condition and it has a motor.

We held four regatta’s this year!!! The first being the 43rd year Colossus Cup a big thank you goes out to Kevin Findley as the PRO could of not pulled it off without him. The first

place winner was Screamin’ Eagle captained by Tom Olsen and crew. The second regatta was The Whitecap once again a big thank you goes out to Tom Olsen as the PRO. This regatta wasn’t just your ordinary club regatta it had participants from Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. This regatta was made pos-sible by Gary Shepard bringing more participants to the race. The third and final regatta of the year was the famous Corn regatta and again a big thank you goes out to Allen Archer as PRO and Gary Shepard winning the San Juan’s fleet.

The junior sailors participated in the CSSA Junior Champi-onship regatta that had 26 sailors participating this year and it was a great turn out! Thanks to Regatta Chair Texie Randle and Scott Randle as PRO. One of the clubs favorite events is holding junior sailing camp it once again shows how young sailors are the new generation. A big thank you goes out to Charlene Randle and the assistant coaches for making these events successful.

This was brought back due to popular demand the ability to obtain a US Sailing Level 1 Certification for jr. sailing instruc-tors. It was a combination of students from OCBC, WVSC, and NSA. Rick Shaw from Thunderbird Sailing Club provided instructorship and has agreed to provide services again if enough students agree to sign up in upcoming years and we know because of the great leadership this will happen in 2015.

I have enjoyed crewing on Predator II this year with KBRS. I would like to thank this crew for taking me on as I have always been a cruise sailor and never raced. This crew took a chance and let me continue to race all year even if I was an anchor. Again I would like to thank each and every one that has given me advice and encouragement to do this job. We should also be extremely excited about the adult sailing classes that will start in 2015 how exciting that NSA will be in existence for half a century. Let the party began!!!

I would like to award Tom Olsen as the Sportsman of the year. He won the Colossus Cup along with stepping up to volunteer and being a terrific PRO. Without his expertise, the regatta would not have been as successful. It’s because of people like Tom that make this club, continue to be a fun place to hang out.

NSA Board of Governors Minutes – Dec - 2014Commodore Gregg Greenwood called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm. BOG members present are Greenwood, Kissinger, Faber, Veith, Gronniger, Rowe. Leonard, Dodson and Wood-ward were absent.

Also present are Property Manager Patrick Adams, Donna Veith and Viki CheatumMinutes: Bruce Rowe, Secretary

The board accepted and approved the November minutes as published in the November Mainsheet (Rowe/Faber)Financial Report: Ronnie Leonard

No reportProperty Managers Report: Patrick Adams

Club boats – The Zodiac is in for service. Our new 15’ Whaler will be next. The Pontoon will go when all member’s boats are retrieved and out of the slips. It is instrumental for breaking up ice with its 115hp. bubbler so boats can get to the crane.

Slips – The crane and power washer have worked perfectly even in these low temperatures. Fewer than ten boats are re-maining in the water and all but one are committed to removal soon. We appreciate our members taking such good care of our equipment.

Afterdeck – The Afterdeck has been busy: family gatherings, birthday parties and a square dance just over the Thanksgiving weekend. Earlier, 100 Boy Scouts were here for a campout and turkey dinner in addition to our Annual Meeting.

Member are reminded of the requirement of keeping the glass doors of the fireplace closed to facilitate adequate draft in keeping smoke from back drafting into the room. If left open, even though it is not noticeable at the time-the building smells like smoke the next day.

The coffee maker is in for repairs. A mouse has been re-ported in the kitchen without a leash. I left a membership card out for him, but reminded him about the “no pets” policy in the building.

We are receiving proposals for replacing the windows in the building.

The building alarm is usually set during the winter, so have the number code and password handy.

Yards – Members are reminded to check on their boats in the yards occasionally. Leaves and other debris can clog cock-pit drains. Please lock up the gates when you leave.

Weather has slowed the progress on the WiFi improvements. Equipment has been purchased for an additional access point for the utility campground sites. Justin Fremin is working on fine tuning router assignments etc. The signal is much better and will improve even more.Administrative Secretary Report: Allen Johnson

No reportMarketing Committee Report: Faber/Greenwood

V. Cheatum was present to report on advertising. Most local ads deemed too expensive.

Proposed Existing ad has phone number to call for more information-ie: for more info, call. Rates were listed for several area publications: Haysville, Sedgwick County Westside Story, Cheney Times Sentinel

Suggestion made by Doug Veith’s wife Donna to perhaps get an ad into the Messenger which is a south central Kansas area wide publication located in Haven. Need to find out their rates. Also discussed investigating advertising at Bridal Fare Events. We need to update the Afterdeck brochures to reflect the new rates, etc.

Gregg is going to assemble a committee to study strategies for Long Term and Short Term marketing with an emphasis on membership Recruitment. Paul Faber will be the Board Rep-resentative on the Committee. Hope to have members found to be on the Committee and meet by Mid-January. If you are interested in participating contact Gregg Greenwood.

D. Veith reminded the Board that last summer we had a few member complaints about too many exclusive use weekends between Memorial and Labor Day Weekends. The Board will review and approve each request for Rental of the Afterdeck during that period.

Member/Guest Introductions and ForumViki Cheatum was present to report on merchandising and

advertising.

Board Members ReportsSecretary: Bruce Rowe

Outgoing secretary Bob Born was gracious enough to take the minutes of the annual meeting. Several reports were late in arriving for inclusion at the meeting and were added later. The resulting delay ran past the due date for the November Main-sheet, so the minutes will be in the December issue.

Mainsheet Editor Sheryl Born will also recheck the email assignments for the new board members.Treasurer: Ronnie Leonard

I will be counting boats at 11:00 am. January 1 to send to the Reno County appraiser. We might have a potluck breakfast prior and/or brunch following. Other BOG members might mark this date and come up to help.Yardmaster: Dale Gronniger

No reportHarbormaster: Doug Veith

The removal of member’s boats has proceeded without any problems. As Pat has mentioned, there are only ten boats yet to retrieve. Only one boat may be wintering.

Electricity is off to D and E docks.I would remind members to review the winter rules.

Operations: Norm DodsonThe Winter Party is scheduled for Saturday, January 24,

2015. Dean and Renae Pusateri will be hosting this year. Renae is preparing a “save the date” announcement for the Mainsheet with some help from Sheryl Born.

The rest of the social calendar should be essentially the same as in past years with the possible exception of the 50th An-niversary Celebration. The celebration committee will let us know in the coming weeks what they have in mind for this event. The tentative dates for this year’s events are as follows:

I have developed a calendar with Patrick’s input that lists all afterdeck events for the coming year. If the entry has: NSA pre-fix then it is a club event. The EX prefix denotes an exclusive use event. It is a primary tool to coordinate events with Patrick and myself and provide a visual aid in preventing confusion. Currently anyone can edit, but we would like to restrict this only Pat and me to prevent unnoticed changes. I have passed around copies of this calendar as it exists today.

Gregg Greenwood suggested such a calendar could be useful for all club events. Note there is an EX scheduled for Decem-ber 13: Farmers COOP. Check the calendar for more dates.Jetty Project/Cove Update: Greenwood/Woodward

The new jetty is essentially complete. Remaining work will involve a general cleanup, re-sodding of grass where needed, construction of new pit toilets above the 100 year flood plain and new guest dock. The state is responsible for all this work and is working on its own timetable.

Page 14: 1214 mainsheet

Ninnescah Sailing Association • December 2014 ninnescah.org14

The area around the flag pole is unchanged with the excep-tion being the removal of the brick bbq. The fire ring is still there and usable. Cleanup and Sodding not complete yet. We are waiting for proposals from Marine Development and MEECO for wave attenuation and moving “D” dock to its new site above Adams jetty. 2015 NSA Budget: Ronnie Leonard

As presented by Gregg Greenwood sitting in for Ronnie. Copies of the proposed FY 2015 Budget developed by Ron-nie, Paul , Andy and Gregg were passed around to each board member present by Gregg Greenwood who was sitting in for R. Leonard. Gregg wanted everyone to check the numbers and notes along the edge of the sheets, especially as to how they ap-ply to each member’s area of duties. He wants input from each BOG member as to whether these numbers will work pertain-ing to their area. He would like any changes to be sent to him or Ronnie via email by January 1, 2015. Feel free to call him or P. Faber with any questions.

NSA 50th Anniversary Celebration Update: Gregg GreenwoodAugust 1 is the tentative date for the celebration event since

there is not a whole lot going on in August and it would be before school starts. A committee is being formed. If you are interested in helping to plan events please contact Gregg. January and November BOG Meeting Dates

Due to unavoidable circumstances Gregg would like to change the January BOG meeting to January 8 and the Novem-ber meeting to the 4th at the usual time and place. Location of March and June 2015 BOG meetings

The March meeting will be at the Breezy Lake homeowner association clubhouse: 119th and Maple. (R. Leonard’s). The June meeting will be at the Afterdeck.
