From Architectural Committee Chair Iris Pavey
Due to the current crisis, most facilities are closed. Check for updates on Channel 8001 and on website: www.delrayvillas45.com
Corona Virus has kept everyone at home. When homeowners are stuck home with lots of time on their hands, they find tons of projects to do. When you drive around, you will see new roofs and gutters, new hurricane windows, driveways being widened and stained, accordion shutters being installed, trees being planted, and planting beds being dug. The new and exciting news that I must share is if you have run out of projects, you can now repaint your home with one of the 24 colors that the Architectural Committee has approved. The paint color charts are on my porch for your review to pick your colors. Please do not remove charts from the porch. I love seeing all the improvements, but I remind everyone of one very important requirement. BEFORE DOING ANY OUTSIDE WORK, YOU MUST GET A PERMIT FROM ME! The permits are always on my patio, no need to call. Just fill it out and leave it on the patio. I will call you with the approval. Without the permit posted in your front window your project WILL BE STOPPED! Example: Roof contractors had to stop working because the homeowner did not have a permit in the window. They were not happy campers. It is a simple procedure, so follow the rules and everyone will be happy. Stay safe! Iris Pavey

It’s Election Time By Bernie Rosenberg
This is the time of the year when we begin to give thought of whether we want to seek a seat on either the Board of Directors or as a Board Representative to the Recreation Board of Directors. If you are willing to devote the needed time to helping keep Plat 4/5 the premier Plat of Delray Villas, all that is required right now is for you to submit a letter of intention to me indicating the selected board at [email protected]. We have five openings for this year’s board including the filling of two vacancies, and two openings as our representatives to the Rec Board. Your name will be put onto the appropriate ballot for our election in December. You must be a full time resident to become a Board Member.
Keep up to date with the happenings in our plat and enjoy beautiful music playing softly in the background, even if you’re on the phone, eating a meal or even ironing clothes. Tune your TV to Channel 8001 and enjoy our community channel. If you don’t receive it, contact Alan Shwartz at 561-376-4040. He is the only one who can activate it.
If you are a new resident and are not connected to 8001, the only way to get connected is to email Alan Shwartz at [email protected] with your name , address and AT&T account number. It generally takes 3 to 4 days to connect.

From the Editor Bonnie Wentz
Fall is here again as Jim and I prepare to return to our southern home. Last summer was an exciting time for us. We traveled over 11,000 miles in our RV, visiting many national parks out West. This year our summer was dramatically different due to the Covid pandemic. We spent most of our time at home in Pennsylvania doing home projects which we had put on hold. Over 20 years ago, Jim laid an 85-foot-long brick walk and patio area. Time and freezing temperatures had caused the bricks to shift and separate and become overgrown with weeds. This summer, he began pulling up the bricks, row by row, leveling them and reinstalling the edging. He finished by filling the joints with polymeric sand which helps bond the bricks and prevent weeds. One day while Jim worked on the walk, I went to visit my nearby sister. I noticed at the curb, waiting for recycling pickup, several sections of eight-inch square vinyl pillar. These were leftovers from a job done by my brother-in-law, who is a contractor. What was destined for the landfill, was seen by me as a possible garden ornament. My creative juices started flowing. I devised a way to connect the sections, so I was left with a six foot tall pillar with four sides to mosaic. Using stained glass, I mosaiced the four sides with random designs. After grouting, I decided I wanted a solar light on top. With some help from a woodworking friend, we retrofitted a copper roofed solar light on top. This unique project now lights up Jim’s brick walk at night. This was a good way for us to spend the time we would normally be out and about socializing. Until next month, stay happy and healthy. Bonnie

Talk of the Town by BOB TOWNSEND
I know you’ve all seen the IHOP commercial that announces its doors are
again open and they’re welcoming everybody back.
Everybody except bears; they don’t want bears.
Which would lead one to believe iguanas are welcome and that’s a very good
thing because we’ve had a dramatic influx of iguanas here in southern Florida.
And they’ve got to eat somewhere.
Wildlife officials here in The Sunshine State are citing the increased
population of iguanas as some kind of problem and have been recommending
their extermination. They say the dragon-like creatures have been showing up
uninvited and unannounced in people’s toilets.
I suppose that sort of visitation would make many – maybe even the majority
of Floridians uncomfortable.
But I decided to get another perspective about iguanas, so I contacted my
good friend, Lisaann Czarnowski in Massachusetts. I was well aware that Lisaann
is an animal lover and figured she’d have something to say about iguanas.
And, lo and behold, she told me she once had one as a pet.
Lisaann said Andy was dropped off to her in the 1980s because he was “sick
and unwanted.” He was skinny and about a foot long when he was welcomed into
her home and, with her loving care, he became healthy and about 5 feet long.
Green and Orange, he was. He was fed lettuce and raw vegetables. Never
cooked; no salt.
She would often remove Andy from his 110-gallon tank so he could roam the
kitchen. One time he roamed into her room and she discovered Andy had
climbed onto her bed along with her cat.
She noted Andy and her feline had a healthy respect for one another.
However, it’s extremely unusual for an iguana to turn into a cuddly or emotional
pet.
Lisaann’s former husband would take Andy for drives in his van. Andy would
sit on the dashboard and soak in the sun’s rays.
Lisaann worked part time at a pet store and, for her, everyday was bring your
pet to work day. It was required that dogs be leashed, but many owners felt their
pets were so damn friendly, they didn’t need to be on a leash.
One of the “friendly” Rottweilers invaded the space of both Lisaann and Andy,
but one swipe of Andy’s sharp dorsal spine put the Rottie in his place.
Unfortunately, his razor-sharp spine also caught Lisaann’s hand and she still has
the remnant today. But all the other memories she has of Andy are warm, in-
deed!
