Principal News Cuppa and Chat’ Forums It was lovely to meet with some parents and members of the community last Friday morning, to chat about the future direction of the college. I fully appreciated the honest conversation from a broad cross section of our school community. I intend to regularly run these, with our next on Wednesday 20th November at 4pm. Please come along to share your thoughts. ‘The Man Cave’ & ‘The Big Sister Experience’ Last Friday our boys in Years 7 to 10 participated in “The Man Cave” – a program designed to facilitate healthy masculinity in boys and young men. Whilst they were enjoying their sessions with the Man Cave facilitators our girls were enjoying “The Big Sister Experience” – a program that teaches girls essential life skills. The feedback from both programs was very positive, so we will definitely be engaging both groups again next year. Remembrance Day Service In my short time as principal I have had numerous opportunities to be proud of students at the college. This was no more evident than on Monday when our whole school walked down to the Rushworth RSL Remembrance Day Service at the War Memorial. Will Appleton and Geordie Aburrow represented the College by laying a wreath on our behalf and Tayla Albrey-Mills and Sophie McLean read a beautiful poem that they had written. All of our students showed utmost respect throughout the service, showing the local community that we are courteous, polite and positive. Mobile Phone Policy We have produced our draft of the Mobile Phone Policy that must be implemented at the beginning of 2020. If you would like to provide feedback regarding this policy please be in touch with me so I can provide you with a copy. Feedback will be taken until the end of November. Year 11s Whilst our Year 12s finished their VCE exams this week, our Year 11s will be completing their exams during classes next week. These exams provide students with essential experience in sitting exams, as well as provide teachers with important knowledge about student’s understanding of subject content.
The following week (25th – 29th November) all current Year 10s and Year 11s will be completing their ‘Step Up’ program. Attendance during this week is compulsory. All students will begin their 2020 classes and will be given essential holiday homework. Old Uniforms If you have any old Rushworth P-12 College uniforms that
no longer fit anyone you know please think of donating
them back to us. We will ensure they are given to families
who could use them. Any uniforms can be handed in to the
general office or given to me.
As always, please be in touch if you would like to chat about anything.
Have a great fortnight, Kerryn Quirk

As a College we paused, alongside with the Rushworth community, to reflect and remember the significance of the special day. We were honoured to attend the Rushworth RSL ceremony on Monday 11 November. Will Appleton and Geordie Aburrow laid the wreath on behalf of students and staff. Tayla Albrey-Mills & Sophie McLean read a poem they had written, which contained some verses from traditional po-ems ( you can read the poem below). Students need to be very proud of their conduct throughout the ceremony - it was certainly respectful, and commented on by various community members. The flyover by the Roulettes was a definite highlight after the ceremony. War cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Australians. We remember those of whom fought beside the men of New Zealand, To create the name ANZAC. They were young, straight of limb, true of eye and steady as aglow. In Flanders Field, The poppies blow Between the crosses Row on row The poppies are flowers of love, For the men who marched away. Red is the colour of blood, The blood that our soldiers shed. Black, is the symbol of grief, For the men who never came back. We think of those of our women’s services, Who proved to be, Through thick and thin, The sisters of our fighting men. As the start that are starry in the time of darkness, We think of every man and woman, Who in so many crucial years died. May they rest proudly knowing, We will prove worthy to their sacrifice. They’re loyal, dedicated and brave. Let no one ever question what they’re worth, The very best on earth. We shall remember them.

Last Friday our Year 7-10 boys were treated to
a visit from The Man Cave. This program was to
develop our boys view on masculinity, to not
be in silence and isolation, but rather
openness, vulnerability, trust and mutual
responsibility.
The program put forward many challenges our
boys face on a day to day basis but provided
them a platform to develop their emotional
toolkit/’muscle’ to deal with the challenges in
life. This was done through creating
emotionally-rich ‘male positive’ sharing
environments, intentionally built to create
trust, confidentiality and peer support. The
students involved had a fun, positive and
connecting experiences throughout the day,
shared with their teachers, peers and The Man
Cave facilitators.

On Thursday, Prep/One went on an excursion to see the Spot live stage show in Melbourne.
After exploring the characters, they would see on stage in their performing arts class, students were ready for the farm adventure that took place. Spot and Helen had to find the lost farm animals and it was thanks to much audience participation that the animals were found.
Prep/One displayed great audience behaviour and were helpful throughout the whole day, getting on and off the bus and eating at the right time and place. Students overall loved the show and had a great time! Thanks to Ms Surplice and Julie for coming along on the trip. Christine Henderson

2020 Prep Transition
This term our 2020 Prep students have begun their transition sessions each Friday. Students have been learning about the rules and routines of school and becoming familiar with the Primary Area of the school. It has been great to have our 2020 Prep student attending each of these sessions. Our remaining transition days are Friday 15, 22 and 29 November and our State Wide Transition on Tuesday 10 December.
Year 3/4 Waranga Summer Sports
On Thursday 31 October, the Year 3/4 students and Mr Harvey attended the Year 3/4 Waranga Summer Sports held at Tongala Primary School. The students were split into 3 different groups with other students from Kyabram P-12, St Augustines, St Patricks, Tongala PS and Stanhope PS. Students rotated through a range of minor games for the day including; Rapid Fire, Hunter, Number Hockey, Bocce, T-ball and Boot Ball. It was fantastic to see students interacting with a range of students from different schools throughout the day and being excellent role models for the college in the wider community. The students also did a fantastic job braving the heat (36 degrees) and demonstrating resilience throughout the day.
Year 5/6 Waranga Summer Sports
On Friday 8 November, the Year 5/6 students, Mr Harvey and Ms Fraser attended the Year 5/6 Waranga Summer Sports held in Kyabram. There were a range of sports on offer for the day and our students had selected to attend the Tennis and Thunder Hockey events at the Kyabram Lawn Tennis Club. Students participated in both Tennis and Thunder Hockey
for half a day each. As with the Grade 3/4s, it was fantastic to see the students interacting with students from other schools and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship. A big thank you to the Year 9 students from St. Augustine’s Kyabram who umpired throughout the day.

Prep/1 Physical Education and Duke of Ed
Over the past two weeks, the Prep/1 students have had some students from Year 10 assisting with their Physical Education program as part of Duke of Ed. The Year 10 students have been running warm up and assisting with other games and activities throughout the sessions. It has been great to see both the Year 10s and the Prep/1 students working well together and enjoying these sessions. A big thank you to Mr McDonald for organising these fun sessions.
Home Reading Expectations All students should be bringing home a reader bag, with levelled readers for home reading. It is expected that all primary students will read at home every night to an adult and that it will be recorded in students reading logs.

Junior Park Rangers
This term has seen two students attend Kyabram Fauna Park each Friday to take part in the Junior Park Rangers program. Here is a recount of their experiences; The Junior Park Rangers was a pretty good fun, listening to music with the teacher in the car and the talk at the fauna park which was inspiring. I personally made some really good friends and we all had so much fun. At the end of our time at the park we got to invite our parents and eat a lot of yummy food which was a pretty awesome experience. It was pretty cool when we got to hold the snakes and lizards, my favourite part was getting to pat and feed the dingos. Paige Goetz
Every Friday, Paige and I got to go to the Kyabram Fauna Park. We were able to see all kinds of different animals like blue tongue lizards, koalas and kangaroos. We fed the birds and the wombats their favourite foods. A highlight for me was holding a blue tongue lizard. It was smooth and felt like it was wet under its belly. It felt cold as it crawled over my arm. We have met kids from Kyabram and Echuca and we learnt to work together as a team. The fauna park was a good place to visit having fun while we learn about different animals.
