Ricoh Copier/Scanner
Good• Relatively fast “pass”• Can change resolution
mid scan• Document feeder– Can quickly scan
ring bound items– Makes many
reports from 1970’s – 1990’s very easy to scan
Bad• Lowest image quality• Black and white only• No OCR• Does not do graphics
or photos well• Size • Document feeder can
damage itemsMCLC TechTalkFeb. 27, 2014Peter Grant

Plustek Book Scanner
Good• Color• Can accommodate
bindings• Can OCR• Higher image quality
than Ricoh
Bad• Low processor power
limits to smaller documents
• Finicky touch screen• Primarily a text
scanner• Cannot change
resolution mid-scanMCLC TechTalkFeb. 27, 2014Peter Grant

Black and White
Advantages DrawbacksThe original is black and white Can lose detail

Color
Advantages DrawbacksCan make some older documents easier to read
Color will make for a larger file size.
Can preserve the information of the original – for example a color graph will still be in color.
Color can be difficult or expensive for the user to print.
Color can make some low-contrast black and white documents more readable.
A color scan may appear to decrease the overall contrast of a black and white document making it more difficult to read.
