Innovation is the way forward towards
future
Project owners, Architects & Engineers
must drive innovation
Foremost, a structure need to be designed
economically and constructed using the
right building material with innovativeconstruction methodology
For Innovation Steel is the ideal option

Investing in a commercial building project can
be an enormous commitment of time and
money. The type of structure you choose will
have an impact on the construction scheduleand cost. Most commercial building ventures
require economy, efficiency and quick
construction for better returns.
A composite steel building can provide saving
but it needs to be understood clearly and the
global saving that can be gained rather thancomparing just the cost of steel and concrete
and assuming that it is expensive is not correct.

Structural steel has entered a new era. Today itprovides not only strength to buildings but alsobeauty, durability , design flexibility, adaptability
and re- cyclability and can be the material ofchoice in building construction if one understandsthe benefit and its advantages
With todays structural steel framing , grace, artand function can come together in almost
limitless ways; it offers new solution and
opportunities, allowing architects to stretch their
imagination and create some of the mostchallenging structures they have visualised in
their mind. What was once thought impossible is
now a reality

First of all the structure needs to be designedeconomically and constructed using newtechnology and materials with innovativeconstruction methods
Architects artistic freedom is further enhancedby the availability of various types of steelshapes that can be worked with to perform
As time changes, steel structures are easilyused in the redesigned of old building by addingnew facades to give a new architectural look
Steel beams may include web openings foraesthetic or functional purposes while stillallowing the beams to carry the required loads.

Piping and duct work can pass through thebeam openings instead of being housed in a
separate layer below each floor. This helpsreduce the overall height of a structure, resulting in material and operating costsavings
Scaling down building heights can be costsaving. Eliminating 200mm or 300mm fromeach floor can cut the cost in the overallbuilding material usage. This is possible only
in steel framing due to its flexibility andallowing the M& E works to pass through thefloor beams

Speed at which a building is built is important.
Earlier occupancy means the building owner can
sell or rent the space earlier, a factory owner can
start their production earlier
Fast construction lowers financial costs and
overhead expenses for constructionmanagement services
Structural steel building is lighter and this
reduces both cost and the time spent onconstruction of foundation works

Steel framings simple stick design allows
construction to proceed rapidly from the start ofconstruction
One of the most convincing reasons for the
choice of steel against concrete is the speed atwhich such building can be constructed. Thecycle time per floor is between two to threetimes lesser comparing concrete.
From energy efficiency stand point, minimizingfloor to floor heights also helps curb heatingand cooling costs

Steels high strength to weight ratio allows it tospan large distances gracefully andeconomically
Structural steel, since giving lighter framing, allows to use more space in high rise building, thus increasing the utilization area and reducesthe construction cost

When designing a building in extreme wind andearthquake zones, steel is the material of choicefor seismic design because it is inherentlyductile and flexible. It naturally flexes underextreme loads
Additionally steel structures have reservestrength , many of the beam-column connectionin a building are designed to support vertical orgravity loads. But the connections also have thecapacity to resist lateral loads caused by windand earthquakes to a certain level

BENEFITS TO THE NATION
Steel is recyclable thereby limiting the use of othernatural resources. The trend worldwide is to producemore steel from scrap, bypassing the need to mineand refine iron ore, thus further reducingenvironmental degradation
Shorter completion times for projects mean thatinfrastructure facilities and public services can bebrought to the people much sooner. This will bring
more rapid development to more areas of the country
The use of steel frameworks can bring a higher levelof efficiency in the construction industry in terms ofquality, cleaner environment and less disruption to
traffic in urban areas

Steel availability has been the subject ofmore than a few conversations lately, with
the blame placed on the ever-expandingconstruction activity in Asian countrieslike China. However, experts from thesteel industry are eager to dispel the myth
that there simply isnt enough steel to goaround. Over the past year, theres beena lot of misperception out there in terms ofavailability of material, There is no
shortage. Structural steel isreadily
available.
