Introduction
• Capnometry is the mainstay of ensuring:o Correct ETT placemento Adequate ventilationo Circuit patency
• Pulse Oximetry is essential in Respiratory monitoring.
• The Service has discontinued the use of the Nellcor Pulse Oximeter and Capnographer in favour of the EMMA and the Fingertip Pulse Ox.o Nellcor battery chargers have been discontinued.o Costs incurred by damage during recent operations.
EMMA Monitor
• Quantative IR Capnometer.• Inline, with disposable sensor airway adapter. Single
Patient Use.• Powered by 2x AAA batteries, 8 hours normal use.• Weight 60g.• Alarms:
o Battery low, no adapter, check adapter.o Apnoea (Default 3bpm)o ET CO2 Low / High. (Default: Low = off / High = 50mmHg.)

Battery Change
• Cover Unlock.
On / Off
• Press on/off button.• Insert airway adapter.
• Powers off automatically.o 15 sec after airway adapter disconnect.o In apnoea situation, 2 mins after apnoea alarm
cancelled, if no breath detected.
Alarms
• Battery low – blinks with 30 mins life left.• No breath – blinking BPM display and 3
beeps every ~30 sec.o Default low RR = 3bpm.
• ET CO2 limits exceeded – CO2 display blinking display and single beep.o Default: Hi = 50mmHg, Lo = 0mmHg.
USE
• Backup capnometer for the ZOLL monitor in pre-hospital RSI.
• Backup capnometer for the Propaq in transport and In Hospital intubations.
• Spontaneously breathing patients with LMA, following failed intubation etc.
• The Zoll and Propaq remain our primary monitors.
Fingertip Pulse Oximeter
• Standard absorbance pulse oximetry @ 660/940 nm.
• Displays HR, Sats, plethysmograph wave or bar.
• Low power indicator on main screen when < 30 min Battery life.
On Button
Use
• On button.• Repeated pushes
scrolls thru different orientations, and pleth waveforms / bar graph.
• Auto off after 15 sec of no signal.

Training
• A training sample is available in Peter Leopold’s office, along with a comprehensive user manual.
• All staff need to familiarise themselves with it’s use and have completion recorded by the check and training officer.
