WHAT IS FAULT?A fault is a break in the Earth’s crust, and along the break, significant movement has taken place .

HOW DOES A FAULT OCCUR?

A fault occurs by 2 plates sliding along each other and then breaking. Faults result (an force) applied by tectonic movement.

TYPES OF FAULTThere are three major types of fault; Normal fault Reverse faultStrike-slip fault

NORMAL FAULTThe hanging wall moves down relative to the foot wall.

This fault type is caused by tensional stress.

The hanging wall moves up relative to the foot wall.

This fault is caused by compressional stress.

The fault exists between two pieces of crust and the Movement occurs horizontally where the sides slide past each other.
